Oooo I just had an idea! Could you do a video about old books that are cozy fantasy books?! 🙏🏻 Love the Spellshop btw!!!
@chrismarshall2502 ай бұрын
You mentioned not really finding a story about Arthur that shows his struggle. I would highly recommend Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles. Three books about Arthur's struggle against the Saxons and Merlin's struggle to keep Britain in the hands of the old gods. It's historical fiction mingled with the belief in magic that pervaded time. Please don't judge it based on the rubbish Netflix adaptation.

I read the Warlord Chronicles earlier this year and I’m still thinking about it. So so good!

I almost feel like King Arthur and Robin Hood retellings don't count as part of the trend. They've been retold so many times for so long, retellings just feel like thier native format.

Ah, that’s an interesting way to look at it! They do feel different 🤔

I loved the Spellshop!! It gave that same happy cozy feeling that Legends and Lattes did.

That does summarize *That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon* pretty well. It's funny, but I could've used a little more fantasy since I wasn't there for the sexy spice. I am keeping my copy just because I adore that cover art though. I mean, look at it!

I hope you read The Magicians because I would love to hear your opinion about it. I give The Magicians a 3 out of 5 but I have a feeling my opinion would change it I were to give it another read.

There are few reviews that make me stop what I'm reading to pick up a book based on it, but I'm going to read The Bright Sword literally right now. (Granted, I knew it was coming out and it was totally top of TBR.)

It sounds like The Bright Sword is exactly like The Magicians. It wasn’t my style, but the themes are there, and I can appreciate that. You go from feeling the wonder to feeling like you are watching a train wreck happen in front of your eyes. It was like I was watching a reality show in which the worst of people came out in the open. I disliked all the characters. I can see the appeal that has on people, but I am not the right audience for it. The Spellshop is right on the alley of things I am navigating to lately. Thanks for another great video.

Cozy fantasy seems to me like a slice of life anime/light novel But I keep thinking that what I like in fantasy is adventure and plot twists, so i dont know if this new subgenre fits me.

The Spellshop is definitely cozy fantasy not fantasy romance, the romance is slow and sweet like in cozy’s and the pace is very slice of life even if there is a driving plot

Parody romantasy honestly sounds kinda great. I may check this out! I wonder if u enjoy Discworld? Just cuz it’s also parody but maybe if epic fantasy

I looooved The Bright Sword, it’s been my favorite read of the year so far! But I can definitely see whey some people wouldn’t like it! The magicians trilogy is pretty polarizing too and I loved that as well so I may just be a big Lev Grossman fan 🤷🏻♀️
@WanderlenzАй бұрын
It’s also been my favorite book of the year! And I was conflicted about Magicians.

I couldn't stand The Magicians. It was so insufferable. It was like he was trying to be all edgy. "Oh hoho! Look! A magical school but we're all jaded assholes who think we're so cool and above people." It felt like it was an I R MOSTEST SMARTZ take on the magical school genre.

I just finished The Bright Sword recently. I loved the Magicians trilogy but this one felt about 300pg too long; I did not connect with any particular character (I did like Palomides and Sir B best, but they were the most developed whereas our erstwhile MC, Collum, felt underdeveloped) and in the end, I felt like Grossman was trying to SAY something with this book but could never find the right way to do it. Was it a comparison of paganism v Christianity? Was it a declaration of inclusion into classical mythology? Was it social commentary on immigration? Who knows??
@Meg_Sprite2 ай бұрын
YES! Exactly how I felt. Palomides was great and I wished he had been the focus instead of Collum.

For Bright Sword, what authors note are you talking about? My hardback does not have it. I’m about 400 pages in, and it is much less streamlined and direct in its views than Magicians.
@Meg_Sprite2 ай бұрын

Is there an authors note for The Bright Sword? I have an ebook but maybe it’s just my country version that is missing it? Any way to get the text without having the repurchase?

How is The Spellshop compared to Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries? Is it even more slow paced or more "boring"? {subjective I know}. I enjoyed the Faeries book but am still new to cozy books in general.

I wanted to love The Bright Sword so bad! I tried really really hard. The plot was completely disjointed and so many parts just dragged even though there was so much happening. I did love the characters but the plot just never took off and the ending just… happened. It was a tough read but there were parts of it that I loved. Anyone have any enjoyable King Arthur book suggestions?

Finished reading The Bright Sword the other day. It took me two whole weeks to read it, which is a LONG time for me. I kind of found it to be a slog and too many stories in one. It needed to be trimmed down a lot. It made me sad because I love the Magicians trilogy!

I never read The Bright Sword so I can't compare, but I did read the 1st 2 books in The Magicians series. The characters are jaded, bored and immature. I doubt that series would appeal to you.
