Great stories Tom! I did the Carbage run once. With a friend bought an old Daf 66, dressed it up as Camel Trophy Landrover. Stickers, roof rack, fake snorkel and all. Actually the car was really nice so my wife asked if the car could stay and she could drive it. She did for quite some years. Never had issues finding the car in the parking lot of the supermarket 😂

You made me dig out our old Ramshackle Rally guide from the 2014 rally. Went from The Lake District to Valencia via Calais, Annesy, Turin, Monaco and Barcelona then onto Tomatina festival similar to your trip. Was such good fun. Did it in a L reg convertible VW Golf that we made look like a speedboat (I’ve DM’d you a picture on IG), best car I’ve ever owned 😂

Love the stories Tom. One of my sons and 3 of his friends did one of the rallies about 15 years ago. I had an Old Ford for parts so they got it through MOT and painted it but I can’t remember what it was meant to be. He has videos of them ramming other teams at traffic lights and generally having a laugh. By the time they finished the car was in bits but they were able to sell it to a local and fly home 😂. I was meant to go with them the following year but it never happened. I really wish I had of done it for the laugh 😂

How did you manage that Tom? Is the Concrete Cat still up a tree 🤣? 9:35 who's that bloke in the passenger seat? Looks like a cousin of yours Tom 😜. Have I ever done a cheap car challenge? Yep. AU$2K to buy a car and drive it to the tip of Cape York -- including fuel from the designated starting point to the tip (~1500km for the "official" part of the trip)! Car made it all the way there and back -- just shy of 8,000km round trip!

Never do we sit on solid bedrock so it won’t move
@johnwarwick41054 ай бұрын
If concreting your whole yard then I would have thought it was worth a little hoop jumping. Not sure what they will come to inspect, maybe to make sure you haven’t cut it up and sold it 😂😂. From what I have heard about these sorts of grants is that it doesn’t work out much cheaper but you have a higher spec job at the end and you haven’t had to do it yourself.

Storytime reminded me of us back in the (1988/9)day, in the local pub on Friday night bit quiet. Anyone fancy going to Alton Towers, ok. Nip home get sleeping bags etc & meet back here in 20 mins. North Lincolnshire to Alton towers, sleep outside gate in cars two 205GTi's & a 309GTi. 1st ones in for the day on the rides. Then up to the Lake district Saturday night, sleep in field gateway, farmer bangs on roof Sunday morning. Few hours round Ambleside etc but too busy. Girlfriends hadn't been to Edinburgh so Sunday afternoon over to Edinburgh for tea and then drive back home to North Lincolnshire. Girlfriends parents were a bit surprised that where we'd been and 700miles clocked, no mobile phones or sat nav either back then. Good times, spur of the moment stuff.

We did Home2Rome with Street Safari a good few years ago. £60 on a Honda Accord, I sold it for £100 when we got back to the UK - result! We nearly got arrested in Italy for photographing vehicle number plates for one of the daily challenges - apparently it is illegal in Italy, who knew? Taking a spare wheel to St Mark's Square in Venice while dressed as St Trinian's schoolgirls and posing for the 'proof shot' in front of St Mark's in front of hundreds of puzzled tourists. Good times!

Tom, just so you know, you don't pronounce the 's' on the end of Le Mans. In fact you barely pronounce the 'n', but that's if you want to say the name like a French person. Brit's generally pronounce in Le Mon, but with a very soft 'n'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIrSnYWrg89kmJo I can't image anyone - even a Parisian - hanging around if 'you' asked them to leave with firm voice! Have a great trip. I have just got back from a trip to Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, New York, Toronto and back home to NZ. It was great fun, but it's nice to get home. Mind you, I'm retired and don't have a bloody great farm to run when I get back from a trip.
