The Nana isn’t premium it’s literally just an overpriced reusable in new housing. I’d just save the dollars and get reusables or film. It’s predatory for FND to be doing what he’s doing. And people can continue to claim it’s original but a 31mm f11 and that exact body layout and shutter speed and yea it’s a 10$ camera being sold for 200$+ don’t support that please, for your own wallets sake and the community in general.

Lastly, if someone wanted to effectively re-issue a disposable but make it reloadable and with a sturdier shell, why would they not be trying to base it on the Konica Wai Wai? I have two of those and will keep reloading them until they break. It's fiddly to reload a disposable but definitely worth it, for me, to keep using the Wai Wai. Why? It's an AF, non-retractable fixed lens piece costing around 8-16x more than an original one. The original 35 has a great, time-proven lens. They're fixable by many techs still. They're fully mechanical and have been reliable for half a century. I don't understand why anyone would shell out $800 for an unproven point-and-shoot. They're developed and manufactured by MiNT, who have acquired naming rights only, and feature a mixed track record on their previous products. Rollei, the company, had absolutely nothing to do with the development, and has nothing to do with manufacturing.

Looking forward to all these cameras, even the Film Never Die metal disposable. I already own an Alfie Tych and it's one of my favorite half-frame cameras I own. It's VERY compact and basically travels with me everywhere, and takes the best half-frame shots outside of a Pen F
@cwantuch2 ай бұрын
Compared to the Pentax17, do you think the Alfie makes any sense to own? They are the same price and the Pentax seems far better. I own the Pentax17 and really do enjoy it. I would consider and Alfie but just does not seem worth the price.
@WittyDroog2 ай бұрын
@@cwantuch I think that's a great question! I think ultimately whichever you go for you're going to be happy they're both great cameras. Consider that the Tych was a crowdfunded camera designed and built by one guy while the Pentax 17 is a more established company returning to their roots. Each camera is a mix of retro shooting with modern ease of use advancements and both give excellent shots for the half-frame world. The differences come from what you want to do with the camera. I like the Pentax 17 as what a half-frame camera was traditionally, that is an easy camera to carry with you wherever to capture the moment and do so with not much fuss, a great traveling camera. The Tych meanwhile is a far more experimental camera with its rotating turret of nostalgic lenses and manual shutter control. Personally I like the main lens of the premium Tych which is a 50mm equivalent 4 element lens (compared to the 37mm equivalent 3 element lens of the Pentax) but the fact you can take meniscus shots (think disposable camera), zone plate (dreamy just wild process of taking a photo) and pinhole (surprisingly sharp vintage look) all on the SAME ROLL is wild. It's also half the size of the Pentax so very pocketable I'd recommend the Pentax 17 to those who want a good street photography camera or point and shoot with its zone focus and wider lens, it's a more well rounded shooter if you want straightforward photos. If you want to be more experimental/creative then the Tych is certainly worth a try. But as I said before either you go with you'll be very happy they're both great cameras

Upgrade? Hardly. The "new" Rollei 35AF is connected to the old Rollei 35 only in that whoever holds the tradename rights to the old Rollei brand got paid to use the name and a superficial likeness in appearance. The internal mechanisms are completely different. Until recently, there was no useful information about the lens. A recent YT display of photos taken with the Mint camera shows serious lens defects, and that was not a critical or in depth analysis. So far, its ability to record an image places it more like an Olympus Mju than a Rollei 35.

To manufacture and support (and you know, still make a fair profit) a high quality mechanical camera from scratch is expensive. I'm amazed Pentax got the 17 in at this price - I suspect the margin is low. The 17 is a market pioneer aiming to grow and educate a new user base who will then hopefully (for Pentax) buy into an expanding range that might include the FF, MF and lenses the enthusiast community wants.

The price of film is very sensitive to production volume. Once you set up the line and get it running, the more film you produce in one run, the lower the cost per roll. Even though I'm not in the market for a 1/2 frame camera, or any new camera really, I am hoping they sell a lot of them so that film production will go up and drive prices down. Right now color is made by Kodak, Fujifilm and (recently) Harmon. Kodak (USA), Harmon (UK), Foma (Czech) and Ferrania (Italy) make B&W. Fuji B&W is now made by Harmon (probably, as Acros II is marked Made in England).

The literal design is a 1:1 copy of an ali cam. The only difference is a rehouse. The creator was called out by multiple big creators for this, and they continued to refuse to answer if it was. With the Pentax 17, Rollei 35AF, Widelux and other stuff being designed I’ll be honest I’m not sure why you’d back the FND stuff.
