Hi Tim, I can't get my head around how they are able to 'polish' water clarity. It's just K1 at the end of the day. I use K1 and it does block algae etc to a very good degree, but it is not perfect. The system that I have put together has a vortex that has been modified to trap large particles in its first stage, then finer particles in the second stage (basic filtration using japanese matting and varying degrees of foam filters. I also have 2 containers of K1 for mechanical filtration after the vortex and then a container of K1 for the biological filtration. 250 litres of K1 in total. The water clarity in the middle of last years hot weather was superb and not a drum filter in sight. It takes 5 minutes to thoroughly clean the vortex, including japanese matting and foam via a pressure washer that I have next to it. You have removed a shower system which is a biological filter in order to put it bluntly, a relatively low grade water clarity filter in. Why? 7 litres of K1 won't improve water clarity that much. I use around 150 litres of K1 for mechanical filtration and it is good, but it is no where near perfect hence why I modified the Vortex. I must be missing something Tim. You have vast experience. At the end of the day I keep getting informed that the best water polisher is a RDF combined with a reverse osmosis system (expensive I know). However, I can't see how the system you have shown can be anything but maintenance high (it will get blocked pretty quickly). Let me know why I have got things wrong? Regards: Alex

People have been using these with excellent results for over 12 months now. They have been running at EA longer. While they are designed for smaller systems and not as a filter as such. They have a lot of power. Sometimes more K1 is not good for a system. Instead of looking for faults in the first hour, let’s see how it performs shall we?

I thought the same Alex. They just look like a tube with a bit if K1. Same principle as an eaziypod but being a pressure filter smaller and can be put anywhere so I see these being used on small garden ponds instead of one of the usual pressure filters. On the face of it cost and simplicity seem to be their main strengths so will be interesting to see how well they perform during the trial.

I have to admit that I can't say for sure until I get my hands on one and run it myself, but the new filter will be placed at the edge of the pond so that there is no difference in the height of the water. I don't know how it is that BAKKI SHOWER has become so popular that not only hobbyists but even suppliers' stock ponds are using it. Is it something that should be adopted by everyone? After all, it doesn't matter what method you use as long as you can increase the dissolved oxygen, right? I understand that if there is a difference in height, as in a waterfall, the water will be agitated and oxygen will be mixed in, but I have always thought that there must be a more efficient way of doing this, rather than spending money on pumps and electricity just to add a difference in height at the end. It is true that there are people who have installed BAKKI SHOWER in Japan, but when I see them, I always have the impression that they are people who don't care about the cost of electricity or money, but I wonder if I am just a cheapskate who cares about such things from the start?

Hello everyone. You need to look at the graphs on the EA website. It is clear, that whilst they do say that these filters CAN filter down to 1 micron when you look at the data in their graph it shows that they are only catching approx just under 20% of 1 micron particles. Their data suggests that the 100% capture rate drops off below 20 microns. Please take the time to read the actual data and claims. I have put a link to what they are actually stating below. Remember that when EA say 'particles down to one micron can be filtered' it means that they are not claiming that all 1 micron particles will be removed just some of them are so as always the devil is in the detail. I agree, we should not be too hasty to just jump in and moan and say that its not possible we should wait to see the results. If this was a scientific investigation there would have to be control variables including but not limited to; a fixed fish stock, feed rate, water volume, fixed time and constant water temperature. This is just not possible in a dealers stock pond as they are there to sell equipment and fish and not leave the pond unchanged for weeks on end. Whilst we all know that there is no such thing as over filtering a pond; the total biomass of all of the matured filters combined is limited to the amount of organics / waste (food) available for the bacteria to consume. Once the bacteria have used all the food they will stop growing as a population and stay at a static level. This bio load (living bacterial population) changes with fish numbers in the pond and with feeding rates etc. so any findings will be speculative at best. By this I mean that the results would not be repeatable or reproducible and so will hold little validity. Sparshot college or other independent institution would be needed with enough identical ponds to get repeatable data from their experiments for the results to be valid. The other thing we need to know is was the data collected in their graphs collected by an independent company or by someone paid to do it, I will admit i only scan read their article so it might be there already. All data should be independent if it is to be credible really or there could be a conflict of interests. There are already two filters on the pond so it is already highly likely that there is already spare filtering capacity so these extra filters (and the shower before it) will not really be doing anything to filter the water other than at best sharing the job with the existing filter systems/ I personally think that this product is primarily a polisher for the water in most ponds and a bit extra filtration in a small one. I think they would be a great addition to a small pond with a pressurised filter being used as the main filtration especially if they were in a dark shed. I do think they are a bit pricey for what they are as i really like EA stuff otherwise and it is usually well priced in comparison to the competition. I am impressed with the design of the K1 bead filter. My ramblings here are just some thoughts and not thoroughly well thought through at all so please interpret as you see fit. My only question to EA would be why have clear pipe as we know that light negatively effects bacterial growth. This is why I am mainly assuming that this is a polisher with the added bonus of a little extra filtration. Also with clear plastic once algae grows it might not look so nice? From my point of view I love your videos so please keep going and ignore the moaners. I love the fact that they show what you are up to as a business with things like you are heat ramping the new koi especially after what happened to Gatwick koi a while ago. I know that some dealers don't bother but your openness and transparency is refreshing. That makes me think you are a dealer i would use. Keep up the great work.
