Description (From Wikipedia) Poppy Playtime: Chapter 1 - A Tight Squeeze, commonly known as Chapter One or abbreviated as CH1, is the first chapter for Poppy Playtime. It was released on October 13 on Steam. It revolves around the unamed player, an ex-employee of the toy manufacturing business Playtime Co. whose employees when missing abruptly one day, and receives a letter from an anonymous sender stating that 'we're still here'. This incites the protagonist to go back to the abandoned factory and investigate it to find out what is happening. Playtime Co. is a toy-making company, and the location where the game takes place. It was likely established in the 1950s, considering the aesthetic and lack of deeply advanced technology. However, the factory likely made its demise some time past the 80s depending. In this game, you play as an ex-employee of a company labelled "Playtime Co." Playtime Co. was once a corporate giant company that was in the toy manufacturing industry - that was until everybody inside the factory went missing. Now, years later, you return to the factory to investigate these unknown missing cases. One of the main mascots of PlayTime Co, he was one of the best sellers and found a place in the hearts of many children across the globe due to the fact that he was programmed to hug people, or because he was found to be cute. Nobody really knows what made him so appealing. However, due to experimentation on the toys at Playtime Co., a Huggy Wuggy seems to have come to life and gone rogue, killing everyone that crosses its path. The Player is the main protagonist of Poppy's Playtime and is the person you currently play as during Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze. There is not much to say about The Player since we never get an introduction to who they could be. However, there's a recurring theory that the live toys, such as the murderous HH, were actually human experiments. There's a theory that the player has ties to whoever was running the operation, or looked similar to them, which is why they were so ferociously attacked. This is not canon, and this may be disputed later on as more lore is revealed. Poppy Playtime is a minor character inside Chapter 1, and will most likely be an important character for the upcoming chapters. Poppy is a highly intelligent toy, she has the ability to properly converse with a child. She's also programmed to talk and communicate like a real little girl. Her first debut is in Chapter 1 and is featured inside the first VHS tape the player receives in the game, in which she appears in her own commercial tape. The Grab Pack was shown to have been used by factory workers to do heavy lifting and general tasks that would have been hard for the average man to do alone, or even in groups. Not to mention, that in the chase scene, the player used it to pull a huge box over an entrance to deter a murderous Huggy Wuggy, and instead destroys the entire mesh floor with the box and takes Huggy Wuggy down with it. This shows that it's incredibly powerful, managing to pull down a box like that with ease. In VHS 2, it's also shown that it can easily decapitate a person with relative ease. In VHS 2, because of this, it was strongly advised to use these with care for that very reason. Decapitating your coworker is not ideal. (Steam Page) You must stay alive in this horror/puzzle adventure. Try to survive the vengeful toys waiting for you in the abandoned toy factory. Use your GrabPack to hack electrical circuits or nab anything from afar. Explore the mysterious facility... and don't get caught.
The game has been a little controversial for accusations relating to NFTs, tracing renders, and of course being deemed as "money hungry" for selling tons of plushes on their website, amazon marketplace, and even making toys like Nightmare critters debatedly for the purpose of making money. Regardless, the games are still super high quality, and I still love talking about it and playing it!

I think Doey starts as an ally, but when he sees us working with Poppy, he will turn against us. Tericho also had an theory about Doey being Rich, and since we know Rich cared about the kids, once finds out WE the player are one of the scientists... he is betraying us. So yes Doey can turn against us, but not cause he is a bad person, because us and Poppy are. We are the bad ones and he is against that.

doey isnt supposed to be scary normally, its his concept. hes a play doh man who can morph into anything for any situation, he can block your path, distort himself, cut himself to bits, hes the enemy or ally thats so powerful you cannot under any circumstances make him mad, because of what he can do. its just like mephisto from blue exorcist, or wolverine, or any charcter that has the ability to kill you with a glare but holds back.

yeah exactly- I wonder if, while he himself as a character might be an ally, his entire concept and situation is going to definitely be the main source of horror in this chapter. Just the concept is horrifying, a human consciousness trapped in this sort of malleable liquid body is terrifying. I can sympathize with a human being forced to live in that condition, if anything it makes it even worse. Chapter 3 had a very unnerving haunted and abandoned house feeling to it, I wonder if they're going to go more for Cronenbergian body horror this time around? If any of you have seen The Blob, you know how messed up something like this can really get.

I loved hearing the quick snippets of the songs for the Yarnaby and Doey commercials. Ppl being upset with Doey are absolutely hilarious bc the whole point is he can change his shape to however he pleases so why would he be in a scary form when talking to the player that makes absolutely no sense but haters will be haters. There was also 3 snippets of gameplay found and one of them was of Pianosaurus clip from the trailer which is actual gameplay and is a lot more agile then be appears.

That is so painfully common with games that release lore in a slow way. It's supposed to be fun and exciting, but there is always a subset that has to poop on things before they see the entire picture. My kid was frankly not even excited for this chapter til she saw this particular trailer, cause nothing had really hinted at it not being Ch3 all over again with the Nightmare Critters introduced first. Now she knows there is def a darker theme going and a lot more introductions than before.

I mean to be fair if we follow the lore, every single toys/monsters in the BBI was literally a living organic being, a mix of humans bones and organs just like an animal, that's how the scientist created the BBI. But doey seems made purely from dough and so his existence seems out of place for now, we doesn't know how doey is alive or even be made by the scientist. But i hope we actually get an explanation on it tho, i dont hate doey and i think his design are great tho

The Nightmare Critters were 100% made to cover up the fact that Catnaps gas gave kids nightmares and make it look like a publicity stunt to hype up their new line of toys. Also Doey was probably a hybrid of Playdoh and Mr. Potato Head.

If only these people complaining about the trailer footage understood that footage used in trailers most of the time is several months old, developers don’t open a recent build of the game, record gameplay of the existing build, and edit that footage into a trailer, they use existing footage from different stages in development that’s already recorded

-It was never implied that Doey was going to be more important than the Doctor. The Doctor was teased a lot more, especially in the actual trailers, while all Doey got before the gameplay trailer was a single frame in the Doctor trailer. -It could just be that Mob wanted to prioritize marketing a prominent character that’s a living toy to advertise the game about living toys. Though I’ll admit they could’ve used Yarnaby, since he’s effectively an extension of the Doctor. But I still don’t see how a major threat whose whole gimmick is that he’s everywhere at once can be overshadowed by a twist villain who was barely teased in the trailers. -Why would they spoil the betrayal before the chapter releases? (Especially while referring to them as an ally at the same time) -For the “SHE LEFT US” message, they could’ve just not known that Poppy locked in a case, the trailer description even says -The Prototype doesn’t seem to care about the other experiments that much, or at least by the time the protagonist arrives. He willingly lets CatNap brutally torture “heretics”, despite him having the full authority to tell him to stop. And there’s the Sleep Well lyrics: “Artificial facade, from the fraud of a god”. -I’m probably looking too much into Zach’s wording, but you can literally see in the screenshot of the interview that he didn’t refer to the villain as the _main_ villain, just “The new villain for Chapter 4”. -Poppy could’ve been talking to Ollie

Firstly the main antagonist for the chapters are revealed shortly before the game releases, chapter 2 and 3 did this. So that point is not valid. Doey is also a dude that can basically turn into whatever he wants, so that's also pretty threatening. Another thing is that people think that Harley's is going to be the antagonist for this chapter, but what if he's being saved up for another chapter. I'll go a step further. What if he's the villain of the whole series? With Poppy, all I'm gonna say is that I don't trust her. We don't know a lot about 1006, but he does care for the experiments, because in project playtime, he straight up tells Huggy that they're making more experiments like him, and this has to stop. Not only that, in chapter 3, he asks Harley if he feels anything for torturing the experiments. Also, he's probably the death screens with Get Up at the end. There is one that says " These souls deserve peace, get up." But yeah, it doesn't make any sense that 1006 cares about the experiments and wants to save them but then 10 years later tortures everybody that stands in his way.

@Mustafa-h7s9b -The Doctor’s body wasn’t fully revealed before the gameplay trailer, all we got was a silhouette -While Doey’s abilities can be dangerous, because the Doctor’s whole gimmick, and combined with how Doey would need act as our ally for some if not most of his appearances, I don’t see how the former couldn’t end up being a more prominent and reoccurring threat. -Why would the _Chapter 4_ ARG focus so much a character that’s only a villain in a later chapter? -Similarly, why would the trailer focused on the Doctor be titled as a _”Chapter 4_ Cinematic Trailer”? -The Prototype could just want to keep the toy parts for himself to build up his body. He is very clearly portrayed as a manipulator. -I’m pretty sure the death messages are meant to be from Poppy, or at least the ones that are white text and not red text.

The biggest question I have about the game, which I really hopes gets answered in chapter 4, is the goal of both Harley Sawyer and the Prototype. Like, what do Harley Sawyer and the Prototype want? It has been like 10 years and they haven't done anything other than control the abandoned Playtime Factory. What are they waiting for? Why was the Player brought into the factory? How does the Player play into their plans? I'm just really, really excited for when it releases!!!

Theory: He’s able to “ absorb “ beings… in his clay. I think that’s how he’s alive. You can see that there are very different pieces of clay as he vented. All sorts of sizes. You can literally see organs , bones in previous designs or atleast some blood. Then there is this sandman rip off. Unless they don't explain his existence, like how he is a living clay organism it makes no sense at all. That is why I personally am not a fan of this character. There is a theory that the top hat he wears contains the main control organ or something but who knows.

We are supposed to get new enemies and allies, but seeing as I don't trust Doey Drew here yet. I wonder if we aren't being red herringed. We know, We are an employee at Playtime co. Returned to the factory to "save them" the employees went missing, killed by the toys at the hour of joy. But we've had a main villian this whole time. Leith Pierre. Who started the bigger bodies, who has covered up the companies crimes by pinning Theodores' death on Elliot after he died. And the ARG told us, Leith Pierre killed Dr Harley Sawyer. That gives Elliot Ludwig, Harley Sawer and the player character a very common enemy. We aren't there to save the toys, we didn't come back for the kids. We have been shown in each chapter a named character seemingly not connected to the high ups, with a temper, who definitely fits a revenge story. We aren't here to reconnect with an old friend, to save the lost souls, or erase the sins of the past, I bet we're here to kill the son of a bitch.

A far fetched theory In chapter two where Mommy says "He'll make me part of him." While she may be talking about the prototype, she may have also been talking about Doey. The prototype may have been taking dead toys and giving them to Doey so he could i guess grow? It's one in the morning as i'm typing this, but here's the idea.. in sculpting, most people use a metal wire as a base for the clay. So..what if the prototype is giving all these toys to Doey, making him bigger to where him and the Prototype could form together?? I don't know it made sense for a sec though...

Theory: the blue smoke gives a false reality like the red smoke. As the red smoke gave nightmares, the blue smoke could give good dreams that hide true reality. When looking at the art on the wall of safe haven, the blue smoke is blocking out the red smoke. Maybe doey uses the blue smoke to make it seem like everything is ok and he is good but in reality he is the main villain of chapter 4. That could explain why the art shows the critters to appear safe in the arms of doey but are frowning because in reality they have been tricked into thinking doey was there to help because of the blue smoke. Did I cook?

4:07 an ally can be the most important element of a story because an ally or a friend or even a frienemy can double cross but also there is a possibility that Doey could be considered another Bigger Body. And if so, would likely be a massive milestone for Sawyer, being a bigger body unconfined to a physical body. the guy can literally push himself through two inch sized holes in the grate, with zero demonstration of any form of muscle, skin, flesh or organs if he is a bigger body. Regardless, I have a gut feeling that Doey definitely holds some major plot/lore significance, there’s just something we haven’t seen yet :)

The most interesting thing about doey's inspiration, is that he may be based on another fictional character who has a goofy voice, can morph into any shape, and has a name that rhymes with his name... Frosty The Snowman And I do think that the hat is the only way doey can come to life, just like Frosty needed the magician's hat to come to life as well

Here's the thing, right? Each chapter selection showcases the villain the character has to overcome (and eventually eliminate) [ see time stamp 5:58 ]. Doey is the character on Ch 4's selection page. If the pattern persist, it's seeming that he's going to be a twist villain of sorts in this chapter (and we may need to eliminate him as well...)

Another thing that’s is giving evidence to Doey being a surprise villain is that the name of each chapter always fits with the main antagonist A Tight Squeeze = Huggy (he’ll squeeze you until you pop) A Fly In A Web = Mommy (literally a spider hunting you like a fly in a spider web) Deep Sleep = Catnap (his whole thing is sleeping plus the red gas) Now think about chapter 4 “safe haven” the only character we know that is related to this “safe haven” is doey, so why change the naming scheme? if Harley Sawyer is the actual villain when they could have done something relating to Harley such as “Lab Rat” or “Plaything” So in conclusion the name of chapter 4 is evidence to Doey being a surprise villain/twist villain/ally turned villain.

To me I feel like the Doctor is the main protagonist this chapter, it makes sense that Doey is an ally and they made him the banner. Like after so many times defeating a “main villain” we get a breath of fresh air by a toy who still has good in their heart that is capable of helping a lot and protecting you. To me it feels right that he came along and they broke from the main villain poster 🤷🏻‍♀️ like I feel they’re just trying to shake up the formula that everyone “expects” by doing the unexpected.

He’s malleable and can change forms, so I can see him being someone who would be theatrical in that he can transform into other toys/characters? that could be why doey has a more friendly appearance, as he obv works with kids. One thing I was kinda wondering is that in the bits of the teasers where we see Yarnaby "chasing" us...what if some of those shots are him just following us around like an ally? I mean, he can't exactly help that his face cracks open into a bunch of teeth and he could just be having his mouth open to pant and breathe like a dog, instead of readying to bite us in half. It could be like some theories where he and Harley are antagonists in the beginning of the chapter, but team up with us when we realize Doey's a villain, and Yarnaby becomes our guard dog for the second half.

I can't say I disagree with the GoBB comparison, considering that was one of my first thoughts when I saw Doey. But I think he's a nice change of pace for a toy design. Plus I think the overly friendly design is like Sheep said, bait for the possible betrayel. (My points of evidence are the toys frowning on the mural, when they should be relieved to be away from the harm of any of the other BBE experiments. The, "You lied to me." from Poppy, which definitely sounds like a betrayal is gonna take place. And my final point is that both thumbnails feature Doey and the last 3 main antagonists together. (Or just Huggy for the alt.) Now why would he be an ally if Mob chose to group the other antagonists right in the thumbnail? I know the whole, "[Blank] is gonna return in the next chapter" theory is run dry. But it's the thumbnail that makes me think the idea that Doey is helping the antagonists instead of Poppy very likely, and we'll possibly see that betrayal just after we enter the Prison.

In the picture you showed us with MML and CatNap being in Doey's arm, my first impression is that perhaps, he absorbed them. Remember MML at the end when she dies : "He'll make me part of him !!!" 0:49 id say its the walk cycle for yarnaby and how the nightmare critters dont look all torn up and broken like how the smiling critters are in chapter 3. Its the little details that count and i just dont see much of it but im still holding out hope. (Also the backgrounds for chapter four are very dark and makes it look unfinished specifically the part when pianosaurus is running at you)

The story is probably gonna be that doey and poppy were once friends and tried to save the children/experiment but after being locked in her case all those years ago, doey believed poppy abandoned them, so when does finds us he tries to help us, but once he realizes we are working with poppy he thinks we are a threat, and any time we make progress to reach safe haven, doey will show up and interfere, until the final climatic showdown when does will sacrifice himself to either help us make progress or to kill Harley saywer.

And I believe if Doey is able to shape shift, it could be like a metaphor, on how someone can just change in an instant into something completely different that we weren’t aware of.
