After a month of comparisons.... I LOOOOVE my Firetong. Easy install... does give a bit of popping backfires then down shifting and no throttle but Im fine with that.

Hey buddy, did you have any trouble lining up the new headers with the engine block. Did you slide it into the exhaust first or attach it to the engine block first?
@jackisoutside2 ай бұрын
So I had the headers mounted up to the engine first, but I left them loose (the nuts that held them on were like three turns onto the studs) so that I still had some wiggle room while I slid the muffler onto the headers and got the mounting bracket for it lined up, etc. If you're having a little trouble, I recommend using a little rubber band or a tiny amount of tape to hold the loose mounting collars on the headers close to the end of the pipes so you can work them onto the studs by hand.

@@jackisoutside I appreciate the prompt response. I tried it your way and I got much closer, but either way I try to install it’s not allowing me to insert all the way into the exhaust so that I can attach back to the bike with that really long bolt. I think the measurements might be off… hopefully firetong will resolve.

Took it in to my local shop and they had to grind down the catalytic converter to make it fit flush.

Got a Vulcan as my first bike at 42 yrs old, and I friggin love it man! I have been modding the shit out of it ...a.k.a ....draining my bank account, but its all good. I absolutely love riding. I upgraded to the Corbin seat, and it's way better than the stock, but a lot firmer than I thought it would be. A lot of people tell me to quit modding it because they say I will want something bigger after this riding season, but I'm not so sure that is true. What are your thoughts on that?
@jackisoutside7 ай бұрын
In my opinion it depends on your use-case. The Vulcan S is a great bike and the notion that smaller bikes are just stepping stones to bigger ones is a little old-fashioned nowadays when engines are becoming so much stronger for their size. That said, if you want to have a passenger often or do long highway rides, a big touring bike will help you and the passenger in comfort. The trade off is that you won’t have the fuel sipping 650cc, and it won’t have that fun nimble feel your Vulcan does. So if you’re enjoying your bike for all that it CAN do, and modding it to make it your own, that to me sounds like you should keep it, and when the time comes for a clean slate you’ll know.

I have a 2022, 15k miles on it already. Just like you it was my first bike at 47. I’ve rode this bike from Cali to Idaho, Nor Cal to Mazatlán MX. I get told to upgrade to a bigger HD all the time but I love this all around bike. It’s a keeper so far for me. I did put Michelin 6s on and that totally improved handling.

What heat wrap and heat paint did you use?
@jackisoutside2 ай бұрын
I used VHT matte black paint, and some black fiberglass tape I got off eBay many years ago, honestly the tape isn’t that great and is already fading. I’d suggest the black fiberglass tape from Summit Racing instead.

What tools did you use to install, mine just came in and I wanna know what tools I’d need to take home from work
@jackisoutside5 ай бұрын
You’ll want a metric socket set with a ratchet and a long extension, metric Allen key set, and a good quality adjustable wrench will take the oxygen sensor off, as would a 17mm.
@thomasspencer57365 ай бұрын
Also, I just installed mine and the Check engine light came on, did you have the same issue?
@jackisoutside5 ай бұрын
No, mine had no engine light. I don’t mean this in a mocking way at all, but did you make sure you plugged the sensor back in? I almost forgot it myself.

do you have to have your ecu tuned after installing this?
@jackisoutside5 ай бұрын
The manufacturer of the exhaust claims you don’t, but there’s a more significant HP gain if you do get a tune.

If it's backfiring and popping you should get the ECU remapped

Yes, the video was taken with the baffles installed, but each outlet has a set screw (5mm Allen iirc) then you can pull it right out if you want it louder.
