I show a preview of the latest firmware for the NEO X8 and X8H. Beta 009. It has some very nice improvements. From reading Minix posts this sounds like its very close to an OTA release candidate. Minix has made a lot of nice improvements and increased compatibility with more apps. Minix has set the new standard for Android TV boxes with the option to use the Googe TV remote app.

I think you should do a video (or a text post) comparing the Minix NEO X8-H, the Tronsmart Orion R28 and the Probox2 EX.You could also see if you can get your hands on a MyGica ATV1800. Those are the bunch of options I'm thinking about and it would be reallly cool to see the opinion of somebody that has played with that stuff :)

The mouse control from a mobile device was done years ago for many cheaper android boxes, the only thing that seems impressive is the 4k play back which looks quality ! What's the online streaming like on xbmc ?

Seem like they change CPU governor back to hotplug again and some user report that it effect some task that depend on CPU performance like gaming hope they will fix it before release OTA update

Rivers, you say in your video that you can pinch to zoom in Maps with the mouse...please tell me how you do that. I can zoom in by double clicking but I can't figure out how to zoom out. Thanks. Great video, keep'em coming.

Some ROMs have an option to use the scroll wheel on a mouse to zoom in and out on map apps. It has to be built into the ROM though this ROM doesn't have it by the way. If your rooted you can use droidmote which has multi touch support.

Is this video referring to an update for KitKat 4.4.2 or is it an update to a newer OS firmware version. I read on the minix website posted yesterday by their staff that there are no OS updates planned for the X8-H from the original kitkat 4.4.2 at all. What exactly is this update description please.( Is it just an enhancement for 4.4.2 KITKAT)? Im confused and none of your 3 links posted go anywhere. Please let us know. Thank you

Can the minix be set up to find wireless networks on channel 9+. i can not find my local network that is on channel 11 it seems to only go to channel 9... that sucks .... great video by the way :)

Hi I bought after looking at your great review on the MINIX NEO X8-H Will you be doing a test on the new MINIX NEO Z64 and can you see how it compares to the MINIX NEO X8-H -PLUS. I bought the MINIX NEO X8-H not the plus and I was going to upgrade to the plus but now I see they have this new MINIX NEO Z64. Which one is better ??

Ever since you reviewed it a long time ago, I've always wanted it but I was very cautious about buying it, wary about the durability and how long it would last. I think the G4 is still a good device but its going to be very slow compared to whats out now. It should be pretty stable too but I think they are done with major updates for the G4 as well.

Hi. I use an app called UPDATE&BACKUP to update the firmware on my Vega. Much easier than using a paper clip and pushing a couple of buttons at once. Also, can you recommend an Air Mouse to replace my TSM-01? It is only a few months old but is not holding a charge and, out of the box, the Caps-lock key didn't work.

Hey Rivers, I'm trying to choose between the z64 and the x8-h plus. One deciding factor was the spdif out. Does 5.1 Dolby and DTS work on x8-h plus. I've been reading in forums that it won't output those formats. Your input will help my decision. Thanks

Hey, just wondering what the maximum range is for the remote(M1, google TV remote, etc). I have all my A/V equipment in my basement outputting to my bonus room upstairs. Will I be able to control the X8-H from upstairs with any of the remote options if it is in the basement with the rest of my A/V equipment?

i have brite view 5005HD classic (a fiew years) and change to Minix 8-h simply because the CT does not work with 3TB hdd. I can tell you this: don't listen to the "reviews" posted on the youtube here. They do it for money, not for helping you out. I have it for a few days and the question really is what you want to do with it. I just wanted to play movies from hdd, that was all I needed! but the so call "4K player" is a piece of s*t, most movie is in .iso format, it can't work with dvd menu, chapter selection, etc. basically it will "extract" .iso file into folder and play each .vob file. When you hit next (not even on the remote! you have to click to go to software menu), it will skip to the next .vob file! it is very attractive to have a little "Android PC" like box but it far from that, i installed one app ("ikaraoke") which i use on my Samsung S5, it did not work with the screen rotation (the picture was chopped and defaulted to portrait mode all time). On the hdmi resolution setting, some review show "4k @ xxHz", mine DOESN'T have it. They might have developed the interface for showing around here but in real sale (as of 10/15/2014) i don't see it in the delivered unit! the bottom line: option 3 would be your best choice XBMC video decoder is s*t, really, i try to offset that by using XBMC control from phone but the picture did not go smoothly (when there is fast action you can see some pixel lines which very bad, it's worse than my CT for sure) think about it

I've done the update thank you. But it's still not DTS-HD_MA or TrueHD it downmixes to DTS format only. DO you know if the Off the air firmware will be true DTS-HD-MA?

I have 2 Minix Neo X8H, with the controler M1. The battery of both controlers longs 1 day sometimes 2 days, is it normal? Do you know another controler that turn on and off the Minix Neo X8. I have 2 other controlers, and a mouse, but they not turn on the Minix, because when the minix is in "sleeping mode" the USB is off :(((((( Very bad!! The X7 was better, no problems with the usb. lease, could you recommend me another controler that turn on the minix, better with bateries. Many thanks.

Any controller with an IR power button (and learning feature) will work. Just copy the M1 power button to the new controller power button using the learning feature.

not sure if I got a defective piece, but my minix Neo x8 H plus is just super slow and buggy, I tried factory reset, but I can't even get pass the wifi pass screen without lags and freezes.. I wish I could delete everything and run debian on it..

+kousoulides I was going to say factory reset but you already did. If its slow brand new I'd say return it for a replacement. The only other thing I can think of is maybe its getting a really bad WiFi connection. Try testing it with WiFi turned off and see if is normal speed then. Also remove any USB dongles and use a corded mouse just to test it. Sometimes USB dongles can cause interference. If its still slow Id exchange it.
