Well I’m 16 and I find that every one « look the same » at the end of procedures and I’m actually surprised that many people don’t really care about the wonderful genes that are given to them. Looking like my parent is such an incredible feeling but is it still there if we change everything that is unique about us just to fit today’s standards ? Social media affects every one of us even if we can’t see it first but I hope that at the end of the day we realise that social media does not have to represent our life

Targeting teenagers is a bit irresponsible imo. And I also saw something last week which surprised me. I follow plastic surgery clinic yt channels and there was a lady who had gotten a nose job a few years ago who came back to redo it. My first thought was that I couldn't see anything wrong with it. She said the new trend is to have a slightly upturned nose tip so she was going with the trend and redoing her nose. People, please don't follow trends for the sake of following trends.

@@summer-xt1gg makes sense why so many people get an addiction
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh51182 жыл бұрын
@@summer-xt1gg This really depends on the type of surgery performed. People who get surgery to fix aesthetic abnormalities (for example people who have a crooked jaw but who have good bite function) are usually really happy with the results because they have made their appearance more normal. They don't typically go on to getting more procedures done. This is quite different from normal looking people who increase their bust size with a boob job or increase lip size with fillers. Isabella Demarko talked about the mental health consequences of lip filler that was really eye opening. What can happen is that once you get lip filler you love the new you so much that it causes mental anguish when the lip filler dissipates over time, so you're now stuck with the upkeep of getting fillers every so often in order to keep your mental state at least normal. This is a lot like someone who is okay with their appearance, and then one day decides to start using makeup, they like their face so much more with makeup that they start to see their natural self as ugly, then self esteem issues set in and you get people who can't go grocery shopping without makeup. Some people get more plastic surgery because they are never satisfied, others because they have body dysmorphia, others because they want attention, and others because they're actually really happy with the changes and are hungry for more because they are perfectionists who treat their body as raw material to mold however they see fit. I completely believe you when you say there have been studies that suggest people do not experience increased satisfaction post-surgery, but I think there needs to be some nuance here. It's a such a big field. People get surgery for so many reasons.
@meeshmallows2 жыл бұрын
@@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh5118 I don't think cosmetic surgery and injections can be accurated compared to wearing makeup. Makeup is washed off at the end of the day, you can't wash off your fillers or rhinoplasty. Wearing makeup or different kinds of makeup is more easily done just to achieve a specific aesthetic look, like wearing a miniskirt and boots versus tight pants and sneakers. Maybe frequency of makeup usage leading to increased dissatisfied with one's bare face would be more common in teenagers/young adults who are still in the process of feeling comfortable in the world and in their own skin? It's just not something I've personally experienced or heard from any of my friends but we're all over the age of thirty so it might be an age thing.
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh51182 жыл бұрын
@@meeshmallows I agree of course that makeup and rhinosplasty aren't the same thing because one washes off and the other is permanent (until you decide to get another nose job). My point was more towards makeup and fillers both being temporary. With fillers it just takes longer for you to get back to your natural self. If someone needs to do makeup every day or have routine filler maintenance in order to not feel bad I think that could be potentially problematic. I think low self esteem/low self image is rampant among teenagers and 20 somethings these days. Social media is so obsessed with looks and the use of filters/photo editing creates further unrealistic standards. As Zoe also mentioned people denying they've had plastic surgery when they did get it is also feeding into the problem.

So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

With all respect and just giving an advice - you should go out and look at people outside more often. It really makes you realize that all these perfect faces exist only on screens due to filters and general algorithms giving attention to a small group of people who just happen to look like that (+ make up, filters, good lightning, good angles, photoshop etc) simply because it is beneficial in a financial way for the companies When you look at people in the real life standing in front of you in 3D from all angles (not on the flat screen) with natural light you'll see that normal and natural people look different, always have small "flaws" and usually when you talk to them you don't even pay attention to these "flaws". And they also don't pay attention to your "flaws" unless they're assholes lol. While we are talking about plastic surgery, I hate it when people, especially men, humiliate women who get plastic surgery to look "attractive". While plastic surgery should not be encouraged for aesthetics, most of these women are getting plastic surgery because of insecurity, making them feel more insecure isn't doing anything productive for anyone. @@PaxDTess I think it can be a very limiting perspective. I've seen it in real life. Parents upset and angry that their adult child wants to change their appearance or expresses any kind of dislike for certain features they have. I've seen women talk about their situation where their father was angry with them for "giving up the family nose". There's usually a lot of guilt tripping, finger pointing and blaming going on. Families fight over this, some parents try to blackmail or manipulate their adult children into not getting plastic surgery because the parents either see it as a betrayal or they feel guilty for passing on certain traits. Even with my bone disorder I still look a lot like my maternal grandmother, and my mother lost her mom when she was 14. The thought of me doing anything permanent to my face scared my mother because she thought I would no longer look like her mom which she misses. That's all very touching but I'm not my grandmother. My mom and I had some discussions about this and it was obvious she always felt hurt when we talked about the subject. It was all eventually solved though. I had a friend take professional photos and someone run a simulation of the procedures. If you look at just the "after" photo it's still obviously me, not someone else, and even though you can see something changed you can't pinpoint what has changed until you put the before and after pictures side by side. Then you suddenly see a big improvement. My mother saw these and was assured and happy.

You know to add to what you said at the end about our bodies being a gift from our parents. It’s more than that, every feature and detail, shape and color we’ve inherited is the story of all of our ancestors from the past 300,000+ years. To me, when I feel self conscious and want to change something because I hate a part of my body, I just think… I was gifted this by those who lived, fought, and survived through those thousands of years and I’ve ended up with this unique feature because of their struggles. I’m grateful and it gives me a different outlook where I can view my body and face as the history of those whose lives culminated in the existence of me. Idk, ever since I got that perspective I’ve never considered changing myself. I was so close to lip fillers and a nose job before. I think that it's great that people are transparent about what they have had done. But I also think that it's best to wait until you're 25, because that's when your brain fully develops, and you'll be able to make important decisions. I'm not saying don't do it, you definetely should if it makes you happy. Just postpone it until you're 25, see how you'll feel then, and then make your decision. And if you still want to go through with it, do your research. Take rhinoplasty for example. A lot of patients aren't aware that actually a small lucky portion of people who have done a nose job, get their desired results with just one surgery. And also, did you know that you can know where your ancestors came from based on how big your nose is? People with smaller noses's ancestors usually come from areas with cold climate. You don't want to breathe in a lot of the cold air and endanger your health. People with bigger noses's ancestors, on the other hand, are believed to have originated from areas with hot and humid climate, making the oxygen levels less dense, and thus requiring bigger nostrils. And another fun fact, most of my friends with small noses are mouth breathers, including me, which causes not so great sleep quality and quite a few health issues. So be aware of the risks before getting a procedure. Everything comes at a price.

I understand the "it's womens' choice, let them do what they want" narrative, when looking at it we have to remember that it's a teaction not just to genuine concerns, but also a hypocritic and mysoginistic society that demands these unrealistic standards for women but shames them for trying to meet them. They want all women to look like supermodels, but also not to put in any effort to look like supermodels because that's "false advertising." They've attached a moral worth to beauty and are mad at plastic surgery or makeup for not letting them filter out the ugly people they hate as easily. At the same time, just because the harassment is bad, doesn't mean the act that's being shamed is good. The cosmetig surgery indsury is predatory, and built on completely unrealsitic beauty standards. How can we know if the choice to get surgery is an authentic one or not when people are bombarded with these beauty standards and harassed for not meeting them since childhood? Especially teenage girls are so vulnerable to this. I used to catalogue all the flaws i thought my face had (the little crook in my nose, my hooded lids and low eyebrows, my large forehead) and research all the surgeries that could "fix" them when I was *13 years old* I'm 19 now, and I don't want to get plastic surgery anymore, but if i had heen offered the chance at 16 i might have raken it, and i would have regretted it now. The problem is the system, not the people the system is exploiting. And whiel it's good to counteract the shaming of women, whether they genuinely wanted the surgery or caved to enormous pressure from society, that does nothing to fix the root problem. The root problem is misoginy, beauty standards, and a money hungry indsutry willing to epxloit people's insecurities to make money off of them.

Yes, beauty standards change but still a rough idea about what is attractive and what is not will never change. For example being 'skinny' Or having a small waist whether it is thick 'skinny' Or just skinny. Another example is Eurocentric features. Acne which is completely normal will always be 'ugly'. People with unique features used to be scouted till the 80s or maybe even till the mid 00s and the that’s not the case anymore because 1. Nepotism in fashion/modelling & 2. I'm just so tired of superficiality being celebrated. I don't care if it's 'human' to be superficial or not. I think we can do, and deserve better than a world that tells you "It's okay to be different... But if you do want to fit in, you can buy that with enough cash and just a little bit of self-mutilation.". Like what? If the only other option is to be, or at least feel like an outcast, how is it really optional? For the average person, who wants to fit in and achieve, it's optional only by technical definition. And the worst part is that things like these don't really even change much. Having a different nose isn't going to change most things about your life - but outside influences are going to try to convince you that it will. Whether by companies for money, or everyday people trying to validate their personal choices through others. But honestly, I don't see a way around it. These superficial beauty standards and procedures are going to be the future for all of us, unless we as people decide to get smart very fast. And maybe one day medical technology will reach a point where there aren't any downsides to undergoing cosmetic surgery, and it will be freely available to all. But until that happens, it's going to be a very miserable part of the human experience, one that should never have been necessary to begin with.

I feel like plastic surgery = low self esteem. Love yourself, don’t change it for beauty trends. You are worth the same whether or not you have wrinkles and big lips. @itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh51182 жыл бұрын
"No one has plastic surgery for themselves" I think in a lot of cases they do because individuals benefit from the better treatment they get when they are more beautiful. Some, like in SK, do it because becoming more conventionally attractive affords them better job prospects and romantic prospects. Insecure people do it because they want to feel better about themselves. So I think very few people get surgery for the sake of others (for example someone wanting to please their partner who prefers bigger breasts) and most of it is to please themselves. I'm not making excuses for it though. I think low self esteem isn't a good reason for surgery.

@@ariesmry I fully believe that caving to patriarchal racist capitalistic beauty standards is a sign of weakness and is inherently bad for us as individuals. When I say that you are capable of choosing to get therapy to get better self esteem and that will benefit you just as much as- or more than- gaining false temporary self esteem from pretty privilege would. Especially because the standard is always changing. I still remember when we said people with upturned noses were “pigs” now that’s what girls are showing their surgeons. Changing yourself physically to fit a standard that will disappear is very counter intuitive to seeking happiness or doing something “for yourself”. The only person benefiting is your surgeon/nurse. We need to push back against societal beauty standards; bending ourselves to meet them is impossible, draining, and backwards. @@summer-xt1gg It's doing something when you benefit from becoming more conventionally attractive. "Pretty privilege" is something you benefit from regardless if you have low self esteem or not. Your life is measurably easier even if you feel no change in your self esteem or self image post surgery. Some beauty standards change, some beauty standards never change. Getting surgery to follow temporary trends is not wise. Yes, the system sucks. But this does not mean you have to marter yourself (by not doing anything to change your appearance temporarily or permanently) in order to make things better or to not be seen as weak. I think the real change is going to come from investigating your own biases, preferences, etc. Asking yourself why you have the preferences you have, if that aligns with current norms, what your biases are, how other people's looks and your own looks affect your perception of them and interaction with them, what your preconceived notions are, etc. And encouraging others to do the same. Become more self aware. This doesn't mean I have to shave my hair off and start wearing shapeless linnen dresses in order to not be a hypocrite. Plastic surgery that I do think should be approved of regardless is changing very extreme features that the person is unhappy with. I've seen girls with very big noses glow after a surgery that leaves them with not a cute button nose, but one that looks proportional. Girls with big boobs being able to recover from their eating disorder because the breast reduction they had on their large and sagging boobs that just WOULD NOT get smaller without surgery finally made them see their body as it is. I think surgeries like this should never be up for debate, because usually it's not a "what am I aspiring to fix next?" thing but a "this one thing is impacting me to a mental health point regardless of body trends" thing. Body parts being disproportionate to the rest of your body takes a toll on you.

I think, it would be all fine and dandy, if surgeons would make extra sure they and the patient are informed. Also with modern medicine, before a product or procedure comes to the market, it is tested for years. This does not apply to cosmetic surgery. 1. The surgeon doesn't have to be a studied doctor. 2. There are so many procedures that destroy your body and surgeons only find out about that, years after they had done the procedure on thousands of people. So yeah, if you are fine with it and everyone is fine, it would be no problem. But there is a chance you are not fine with when your body gets harmed years after the procedure. I hope that if you get a procedure done someday, the surgeon will do you no harm. But I guess chest operations are pretty safe. I am mostly talking about injections. Stay safe.

Also many plastic surgeons will try to prey on young people's self-esteem issues and bring up new issues in order to get more money. So while plastic surgery existing is actually a good thing to help with reconstructive surgeries and people who have deformities due to whatever injury or congenital its really dangerous for it to be advertised to teenagers who are still growing!!

I used to hate my noise and I’ve always wanted to get my nose done for aesthetic purposes. Now that I’m older friends and family asks me if I got my nose done. nope I got older and lost some fat from my face. Point is these girls are getting procedures done at a very young age. Our face change as we get older. Now I’m not against Plastic surgery, I just think that it is something that should be done after thorough research.

When I first got on the internet i saw all these people with perfect noses and it caused me to be insecure about my very Lithuanian nose. I later realized most of those people had gotten plastic surgery, didn’t make me feel any better though just made me feel like my nose was even more ugly

I'm going to go through surgery in two weeks that is considered plastic surgery since. It's my nose, but i'm getting it done purely because I have a dialated septum and can't breathe lol. A lot of people tell me not to do it because they don't understand that I really need it. I'm happy how you made this video and didn't judge people😁

Another thing that is worrying is that what is considered beautiful can often change with trends. So many fashion trends also involve physical features, and if you are altering your body with plastic surgery it may fit into trends now but in however many years may not be the trendy ideal of beauty it once was.

The worst is that ps is portrayed in an almost positive only way, I used to prowl in the realself forums and most of these procedures have a very high complication rate. For rhinoplasty it seems that the ones where the person had an extremely hooked nose it can work out good but for ppl who want their tip to be changed they barely ever are happy with their results and also the complications can't happen down the line etc so u have to always keep in mind u need to have savings in case u need some revision surgery.

This is why I don't have tiktok and only open Instagram once a week or so. I don't see any of this, so I am pretty happy with my life

The only plastic surgery I need is for medical purpose. My nose was broken and now it's not only assimtecric, but also I now have complications with breathing(and it can get worse with age). My point is please, please dont do plastic surgery on yourself unless it's absolutely nessesary

I take healthy body everyday instead of being drop dead gorgeous by surgery. Every surgery has its own health risks and people who never get really, really sick think that there is nothing to it and that they can take any risks for beauty. They don't know to the extent of pain that they can suffer because of it and think that they can handle everything.
@Constantin9va2 жыл бұрын
If you have a small face, I’d really think long and hard about all the pain you will be in, as it is MUCH more difficult to operate on a small face. You WILL be in a world of pain. I am so grateful for my surgery, but please be prepared! And have a solid pain management plan worked out with your doctor!💖

though i don't think plastic surgery is a bad thing, i feel it's being pushed on people by societal standards and making people feel horrible about flaws at such a young age and feel the need to do that. there was some study about how the brain is not fully developed until 26 and usually people who planned on doing plastic surgery completely switched up and rationalized their decision. plastic surgery should be a personal choice, not something pushed onto you for not being as attractive as the media pushes

It's been 15 days since i had a nose job and i actually am satisfied with it. I don't think i got prettier or uglier or anything, I was fine before and i still am but with a better feeling about myself :). what bothers me is people coming to me and asking me if they need a nose job or not, dude, YOU decide that not me or anyone else.

love your commentaries so much zoe!! i got a septo/rhino in 2019 bc i had broken my nose as a kid and it healed with a hump/crooked. I wanted to be able to breathe and fix my deviated septum, but also to look like my mom, no one in my family has a hump / crooked nose bc mine was broken and healed with a malunion. I don't regret it, but my nose also healed slanted so its still not a "perfect" nose but i love it and it used to be a major insecurity. I support anyone to make their bodies look how they choose, but i advocate those curious to choose safe & reliable surgeons and to know the risks!

A good thing to keep in mind is. There is no shame in getting surgery if it would make you happy & confident in the long run. Keep in mind that *surgery is surgery* . No matter what the purpose is. You're risking something that will be with you permanently whether the result is bad or good.

I don’t mind other people doing plastic surgery if they have the money the more power to them, i myself do not wish to do so very much like i do not wish to do any other surgery if i don’t have a medical need, but each to their own

back when i was a kid i used to have a pixie nose, really cute. but then i got a lot of airway diseases throughout my entire chilhood so my adenoids grew bigger and that deformed my nose bone. i got so insecure abt it, i still overthink about getting a rhinoplasty but at the same time idk, i feel like i should respect my body the way it is. i just find it really unfair how i have to deal with the consequences of something i never asked for.

I start to really love thin lips, because they are so natural. With some nice lipstick they are gorgeous.

What’s also problematic is yes when people lie about not having work done it is extremely toxic but also when they are open about it..it still changes the beauty standard to something unattainable without getting surgery to change yourself. Like the means we go to to be attractive are already enormous but literally changing your bone structure to be more attractive?
@choux83722 жыл бұрын
I definitely intend on getting plastic surgery in the future to remove my excess skin from weight loss. I would like my arms to not make sound when I jump or even just wave hi excitedly.
@brittniep9219 Жыл бұрын
We also cannot ignore the fact that tons of plastic surgeries are performed to remove cultural and individual features, and to make one look more conventionally White or to fit a temporary beauty trend. This is most certainly alarming to me. I also do not love the homogenization of humanity when our beauty and survival is in our genetic differences and unique appearances but that is certainly just my opinion.
@youdontownme082 жыл бұрын
We just have to make it a trend to have a big nose, thin lips, hooded eyes and so on.... It's just sad that people start looking the same and lose their individual features that make them special.

I just learned this about botox from my boyfriend, who is a dentist specialising in TMD/ CMD: Botox changes the muscle in a process called ‚fibrosis‘, even after a single shot of it. After multiple botox treatments and aging it can render the muscle less functional or useless, especially smaller muscles like the mimic muscles. He advised against getting botox in the masseters (only in extreme cases of TMD), because it is an important chewing muscle. I would not want to hinder my ability to eat and talk, especially when I get old! Hope this is useful info for someone else as well ☺️

"It's not symmetrical or perfect / But it's beautiful and it's mine / What else can I do?" Though my peers in their 20s are too late to have this golden line seared into our collective memory, hopefully the Alpha generation can connect with it.

I forgot where I heard this but it went something like this: "I wish someone could just look at their imperfections that they hate and change their mind and love them."
