Here we check out some budget options on Amazon to see what we can expect. I do not purchase the gear, but shed some insight regardless. I always suggest going to your local fly shop if you have one to support them first. These rods won't be the best first step if you have the funds to buy higher end gear, but this should be fun regardless!

I like seeing this information. I just ordered a Goture Poder 8wt. 9’ medium action or medium fast, can’t remember that part for sure. Looks nice and the description sounded good. But knowing someone that actually has one is way better. I bought it in hopes of using it on the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers here in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Targeting Smallmouth and Pike.

The Wild Water does not have snake guides. Its a decent rod and line though. bought that set for the wife for $80. its decent. Id go CABELAS setup over most of these. That one has been solid for me. Big Fork. $70 on sale. great rod. decent diecast reel.

I have the same brand fly rod and a similar kit that came with it as the first one. I like it. The reel is nice as well as the rod and rod tube. Works well for me but I am panfishing so take it for what it's worth

Very entertaining video, but a combo what cost about $89,98 is not much better than a broomstick. For that amount of money it is better to take your partner out for diner. If you are new in the sport the last thing you must buy is so called beginner's tackle. Always buy a good rod and reel and Line that grows with you. Look at brands like Snowbee, Redington, Scierra and even Orvis. And you can't go wrong It is also a good thing to buy second hand tackle as some so called premium rods loose their value pretty fast after a few years. Just my thoughts in 40 years of fly fishing :-)

A good one is a beautiful niche experience but most won’t be as nice as you’d expect. If interested, check out some older cane on eBay or something and save a few pennies before you drop loads of money on a rod you may or may not care for.

Lol I bought that one that started the first you spoke of lol never used it . Feels nice but need to use it lol than bought a even cheaper one before I bought it . I bought it for $69.99 not $89.99 though over a year ago . I do like the bag it came with . My first one came in a crappy sack type things that you tie in the middle no safety for the rod . Why do you not recommend fast action rods? Every rod you are talking about is a wet noodle when casting.

In my experience with teaching new anglers, fast action rods aren't as nice to load for learning casters. I dont think it is advantageous to ONLY own slower action rods, but to learn on, my students find more success. Cheers and tight lines! 🤙

Or the "Diamond2" series or the "Classic"by SnowbeeUSA, or maybe the "Wanted" series of rods by Outlaw Rod Co. Or even an Orvis "encounter" on sale perhaps? All should have a lifetime warranty. Those would be all-rounder rods

How do you know it's a fast action blank? They are probably fiberglass rods which are worthless to a fly-fisher man.

Definitely not fiberglass, and I dont think the term useless applies to fiberglass in all circumstances either. There is no "one size fits all" in fly fishing, and what is optimal is not necessarily perfect for the new learner/beginner either. Thanks for stopping by! Tight lines! 🤙
