New fly fishing season, new camera - but were there any fish?

So, this is my first video following my 2024 game fishing season. Taken from my first morning trip to Loch Leathan on Sunday March 17th, a couple of days after the season started. Conditions were favourable on the morning I tried out my new camera, but unfortunately bar one missed offer from what was likely a rainbow trout, I drew a blank for my mornings efforts. It was great to be back out after nearly 5 months with hardly any fishing.
Still, I hope you enjoy the video, please feel free to leave me any comments if you wish. The only way is up from here, so I hope to get more videos out following my fishing exploits in 2024.

Thanks, really pleased with the camera though it can only do so much as far as the videos are concerned 😆 yes my aim is to try in the sea with the fly rod for sea trout if things align and I get time round my other commitments. Time just flies by too much!

Great effort Matt! Looks pretty bleak up there early doors, but theres always a chance of some monster from the deep snatching your fly! Much improved audio with you new camera! It would be good to see you sea trout fishing in the open sea sometime 👍

Thanks Dave, yes so far I’m very pleased with the camera, I’ve not filmed in 4K yet as I’m testing the waters with the laptop and editor , it seemed a bit slow when I tried a test upload in 4K. Just need to order the Hohem Mic 1 now. Yes, I really want to try in the sea for sea trout, only work is really busy and we’ve had a lot going on so the bits of fishing I have done are the odd hour or so, the place I want to try is a bit of a drive so I need a good part of a day plus the right tides etc. I’ll definitely do it, really enjoying The Angling Front’s stuff he’s doing. I’m sure it won’t be easy! All the best and looking forward to viewing your latest video this evening 👍

Thanks as always John, it was a nice morning actually and I fancied my chances but not to be. I’ve since had a couple of fish out on two other very short sessions & I know some members that have been able to get down on the favourable days have had some good sport which is great to hear and bodes well for 2024. Thanks for the feedback. Really pleased with the camera so far. I shot this in 2K and I struggle to tell much of a difference tbh between that and 4K, makes editing a bit easier and uploading too. Yes, to say that is just the onboard mic with noise reduction on, that’s great. I’m still getting a wireless mic, but yes, I hope the steadiness of image, better audio etc will improve those aspects of the video for those watching. It won’t improve content or catching though 😆 Many thanks 👍

Still sitting tight, watching the rain, but tomorrow might be my first proper session this season. Like Cheech once said, things are tough all over, but there's a wee ray of sunshine just peeking out from behind the clouds.

Fingers crossed that you get a break in all the rain so you can get on your local river. Interested to see how you find that new maxcatch glass rod, I have a 5 wt one that is quite good fun to use, plus I hoped it would be good if my kids ever fancy having a go as a bit more robust & more in the budget. Yesterday was cracking here a proper spring day but I was at work all day, hope to get out for a quick cast this weekend or on a small burn with the 3 wt, at some point. Tight lines 👍

Yes, I enjoy doing the vids and that’s spot on, it’s nothing serious but it is nice to get decent feedback from time to time and have a natter about the old fishing 👍

Hi buddy, I know many lochs on Skye are bank fishing only. Do they allow float tube fishing on any of the lochs. I’ve never fly fished on Skye but looking forward to getting up there in the year. Your video have inspired me to get up there. Thanks for sharing mate.

Good question. I’m seeing a few of the committee at the weekend so I’ll ask them. It’s not something I’ve honestly been asked before so would want to double check. We have boats on both of the Storr Lochs and some hill lochs (the ones on Fada storr loch are out now but we had our boat shed blown down in gales in Jan so rebuild is in progress now but there may be a slight delay on boats going onto the big loch). Leave it with me & when I get and answer I message you back. Thanks for checking out some of the videos too, that’s great if you can make it up and have a go on some of our lochs 👍

I just love the wild fishing, many of the wild lochs on the mainland are great but usually only have small fish which are great sport. I’m not looking for monster just something of a better stamp which you’ve shown on your videos.

If Skye doesn’t work out for you, try Assynt. Huge choice of lochs, many of which you can float tube on. Some of the bigger lochs have boats on them

@@PiscatorUK-Fishingsorry it took me so long to get back to you. We had a meeting tonight and I asked - you are ok to float tube on club hill lochs but not on the Storr Lochs - Leathan & Fada. There are boats available for visitor hire on the Storr Lochs. We have a couple of hill lochs with single boats on them which are member only. All the best.
