Because, while I super appreciate him saying (twice) “make this the second airplane you fly,” I would love to get his recommendation for a beginner’s first aircraft; a trainer I suppose. First video watched of this channel, will search for his trainer recommendations. Aug 2024. New to this been researching, casually, for a few months … considering for next year maybe. I think I liked this review/style. Going to rewind and watch it again (was only listening the first time)

Steve with the set-up, "So Cannon do you think a beginner could fly this plane?" Cannon responds with a yes and a review of why. Ummm... Cannon you're the beginner all you had to say was, " yes, you know how I know? I'm a beginner and I'm flying it right now." 😅😂 Wow what a beautiful plane and as I say "grandma approved."

Beautiful plane and easy to put together, i always liked how Cessna looked and flew. in the 1970s, my father bought us a fiberglass Cessna 150 it came already painted with an MRC radio and an enya 35 motor. It was underpowered because it was heavy, not like these foam planes now.
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 ай бұрын
I think in the 1970s the company COX also made a super heavy Cessna that flew electric for 1 min.

Well Captain, I am going out on a limb here and going to say..........one of the best CD videos ever!!!; why?; well, we had the superb (and about time !!!) in Cockpit footage of the fearless Pilot (who was very cool, calm and hmmm, not sure what the last one was !!!) major blinky lights also!!!; superb detail and look to the plane, only downside is, I tried to order it as its only $299 US to Australia however it does not ship to my address in Melbourne !!!; absolute "bummer" regardless, thanks for sharing!

Steve, quick question; where do you find the tiny hexagon head shaped screwdrivers for connecting the two halves of the fuselage? Also, the rudder and elevator connections are obvious as they’re labeled. However, the two light connections are smaller than the connectors. Can you give some direction here? I bought this through your link. Many thanks.

Lights… match up black to black And red to red. Tools? Those are standard RC hobby tools you can get off AMAZON (tons of selection). If you need a link, let me know.

You aren’t kidding.. tons of selections. So yeah, please give me a link for what you’d select, and thank you in advance. In closing, I must have received a 182 that was made at 5 O’clock in a Friday. The base plate on the prop assembly is missing. Also only one screw was holding the batter plate in place (missing three screws) and missing two screws on the main landing gear.

@CAPTAINDRONE7985 ай бұрын
@@Ellexis Ahhhh... no worries, I do get such comments now and then from people not super familiar with RC Plane assembly. Your base plate is either attached to your nose spinner, or it is hidden in the shipping box... check everything, it is 100% there, as well as the screws. I say this because I have assembled over 250 RC planes in the past two years, and those planes have been from all RC Plane companies and there are NEVER any pieces missing, not even a TINY screw. But... I have left pieces in the styrofoam and tossed them out, only to go searching for them and recover them, or I simply misplaced parts as I took everything out of the box & then located them later. I have even LOST tools that I own because when I picked up all the packing material to toss everything out, I accidently picked up my tools. As I say to everyone... all will work out in the end and you'll be a pro in no time!

New to flying and thinking of buying this as my first plane. Just wondering is the FMS reflex V2 or V3 flight controller the same as the receiver? or do I need a separate receiver? and what is the comm protocol? will it work with my Spektrum DX6 radio? also it says to use a 4S for the battery but isn't the Reflex mas operating voltage 9V? will it not 14.8V be too high? Thanks
@CAPTAINDRONE7982 ай бұрын
Reflex unit is separate from the receiver you use.
@CAPTAINDRONE7982 ай бұрын
If you wish to use a Spektrum radio, then don’t get reflex but instead get a Spektrum receiver with SAFE technology & then watch videos on how to setup SAFE in forward programming…. Or even easier, buy yourself an RC PLANE with a Spektrum receiver in it like the popular AEROSCOUT I reviewed (designed for newbie beginners)

Great video, Steve! I’m curious, I know, at least in the US, you need a license, and have to register any drones over 250 grams. However, I know nothing about what’s needed legally for an RC plane. What are the regs in Canada to be able to fly RC planes? Anything similar to drones?
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 ай бұрын
In Canada, if you remotely pilot anything at a weight of 250 grams or higher you need to be RPAS certified (it is a simple online test).

@CAPTAINDRONE7985 ай бұрын
I ran the entire review on the same battery and even did a fourth flight off camera, so a pretty good amount of time. There was no wind this day so not much power was needed.

Would this be ideal as first plane with reflex fitted ? Love the channel, I let the ads run as I understand this helps in some way. Did R.C. about forty years ago. For what reason did you recommend it as second plane ?
@CAPTAINDRONE7985 ай бұрын
The reason I recommend as a second plane is because when one recommends a plane as a first RC plane it is assumed the pilot has no experience flying and thus requires more of a glider type plane such as a 1.2 meter Aeroscout. A beginner could fly this plane but it is a full featured plane so it reacts to the joystick inputs, and is not as forgiving as a full Trainer Beginner type plane.
@mickheathcote45705 ай бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thank you ,that makes it much clearer, much appreciated.
@cannonjanes9945 ай бұрын
I put a reflex in mine paired with a Spektrum AR620. Super easy to fly, but with the small wheels and rigid suspension, landings require some finesse that takes a bit more experience to master as the plane tends to float. That said, takeoffs and flight with the Reflex is a piece of cake. You'll note that both Steve and I bounced the landings...

@@cannonjanes994 Thank you Cannon, the reason I asked was that now retired, money is a factor and I won't have multiple models to hand so I ideally, would like one that would serve me for the foreseeable future. Once again many thanks.
@cannonjanes9945 ай бұрын
@mickheathcote4570 I think money is a factor for everyone these days, but of course more so than others. I started with a volantex spitfire (400mm) last summer and, like most addictions, I needed more. That said, some guys at the field fly the same small planes over and over. Personally, I like the challenge of learning to fly other models (like warbirds and Jets). If you compare it to alcohol or gambling, it is a much better addiction, but it is still an addiction (for most of us anyway). If you just want to fly one plane, I recommend that you get yourself a high wing ready-to-fly (rtf) aircraft that you like. If you get hooked and want to fly more aircraft, then there is a steep learning curve that I am still going through. And the cost increases a lot! You'll need a transmitter ($200+), batteries ($20-150 each), receiver ($20-100), gyro ($50) and, of course, a plane ($200+). Plus glue!

Although, I forgot it and had to borrow the Captain's transmitter.
@danflom12715 ай бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 If I was starting today I would go with the NX8. The new NX7 is equivalent to the NX6 but costs less. It doesn't have wifi which I don't find all that usefull. To access the full capabilities of the 6 channel receivers that come in BNF's you need a 9+ channel radio. While the AR630 and 631 only have 6 physical ports there are 3 digital channels for a total of 9. I added flaps to my old trainer along with crow and reverse. It used all the channels on my NX8. Cheers
@cannonjanes9945 ай бұрын
Just to add a bit more context... I started in the hobby in the fall and I've been addicted since. I chose the Boxer 4 in 1 because it was cheap ($220 CAD), I can fly any protocol with it and the reviews were great. The learning curve with EDGE TX (the OS) was steep, but there are plenty of how to videos online. Additionally, I typically use the R88 receivers that are $11 USD and pair them with the FMS Reflex. Much cheaper than going with Spectrum, but arguably just as good. If money isn't an issue, stick with Spectrum as it is very user friendly. That said, I have no regrets with the Radiomaster products and the FMS planes. In fact, I have several FMS planes now and they are all great. Lastly, I will leave you with a word of advice - it is fun and very addictive. Still cheaper than most addictions, but not cheap! Best of luck.
