As a german, Jeremy hooked me up for Perfumes bit over two years ago, and now im really into the materia, bought my first niche perfume two weeks ago (Hacivat, Nishane) and im really really grateful that he introduced me to the world and everything that comes with it (Chaos Fragrance for example ;) ) His videos before his award were very genuine and informative for young people! But since then he's so head over heels with his ego... Let alone his third grade Perfumes and that pricing haha i can't-

I think greed is more often a byproduct of success, not a means to it. The justification of unethical practices in order to maintain or increase revenue usually happens when a business grows to a certain mass and the expectations of performance are much greater from employees, board members, share holders, etc. Most upstarts can't afford to take that risk when everything is banking on a very small set of skus. Jeremy might be YT famous and might also be a polarizing figure but those judgements aside, launching one's own product is harder and more costly than most people can imagine. It's a game of gambling that demand for your product will exist, balancing quantity with quality and doing it without going broke. Most upstarts are lucky to break even. You're talking hiring and partnership agreements, royalty structures, business expenses, legal fees, taxes, import/export costs, shipping, etc. The more you make of something, the lower the unit cost generally is but unit costs are affected by other things such as quality of ingredients, quality of packaging, marketing, distribution, etc. So it's a somewhat complicated balance. If quality of ingredients is paramount, quantity orders are low and packaging/marketing is negligible (because they kind of have to be), there's the near 400$ price tag. Dior, Versace, Armani, Chanel, etc. All of the fashion majors have a wealth of skus that can subsidize a risk or a product such as a fragrance line that did not do well. They have the ability to create loss leaders in the same way that VW Golfs and Audi Q3s subsidize Bugatti and Bentley. They have retailer relationships and price control measures that allow their perceived value to be far greater than actual unit cost. Standing alongside that is like a sparrow next to an A380, it's not exactly apples to apples.

@@wizardmix While I understand your point we know there are small niche houses that produce quility fragrances for the fraction of the price of Jeremy's. They automatically know (not being an established brand) that they're starting small in order to (hopefully) scale up in time as their fragrances gain recognition. Jeremy has a financial partner (his backer) that is betting on Jeremy's YT brand (established recognition) to generate a percentage of his profit. For me the problem still comes down to the fragrances themselves and price. If a new (random) house started like Jeremy has they'd be dead by the end of the year. All Jeremy (and his financial backer) are doing imo is extending that period. So once the novelty dies so will the house.

@@Hoopla10 Fair point on price. I know about products but not specifically fragrance. It's a tough nut to crack no matter what it is so I tend to have some sympathy for those starting out. Admittedly I'm not the hugest fan of Jeremy other than the fact I think his eccentric behavior can be entertaining but sometimes strangely uncensored, human and honest. Takes a back seat to fragrance. I suppose I don't know what benefit a smash and grab, fool me once type of operation holds. It seems like a very quick way to lose big. Seems to me there's a better investment in actually producing something of quality and building a brand. If that be the case, seems more like bad business decisions than it does greed.

@@wizardmix The cost to the manufacturer of even the most expensive perfumes really can't exceed say 15 euros per 100ml bottle at the very most. To begin, they all contain mostly alcohol, followed by essential oils, fixatives, aroma chemicals etc., in approx known quantities. The packaging here is simple. That said, I think anyone should charge what they see fit. However much the market supports, assuming their main motive is profit. The fact that my priority would not be profit, but rather customer satisfaction, or providing a quality product to the masses, doesn't mean everyone should think like that. But anyone who doubts the huge profit margins in perfumes should check out the number of employees per square metre of chains like Sephora. Glass is cheap, perfume is also pretty cheap, what you're buying here, I think, is exclusivity.

Yes I like Jeremy fragrance I personally believe that his fragrances are overpriced in the uk it works out just under £300 for a 100ml now private blend Dior’s and tom fords are cheaper and creed and pdm etc than black tie so it’s right for some but I could warrant that for a not even in store or established brand Ps I’m not in anyway dissing Jeremy I love his Channel and think his videos are fantastic

Let's be realistic about this.... In the present day of relaxed and cosmopolitan based fashion .... The vast majority of young people will only get to wear a black tie at either a funeral... or if they happen to go to a fancy dress party dressed as one of the blues brothers... That out of the way... For 400 USD we should expect a complex and beautifully balanced fragrance that comes packaged in an eye catching bottle as to showcase its contents...... Something that captures the attention of the consumer and makes them want to explore the fragrance and wear it. 2020/21.....has brought us the corona virus and the loss of many lives worldwide ... Wearing masks in public does not do anything at all for our ability to appreciate a good fragrance in the ways and situations that we normally would........In light of this.... I think that Jeremy would have pioneered had he donated at least 100 USD of the asking price, to support the health services who are supporting us all throughout the pandemic

I think the fragrance apprentice released a fantastic video breaking down the issues with what Jeremy is doing. People will pay the price for his fragrances and so he is taking advantage of that but at the end of the day, he is gouging his fans. If you are daft enough to pay $400 for his fragrance than that’s your choice but even his most loyal fans must agree he is taking the piss.

The marketing for these fragrances keeps me away from them. 400$ for a fragrance that comes in that kind of bottle with an utilitarian name like "Date" or "Black Tie", it could be really good I wouldn't be initially interested. I get that it's a good idea and I guess it'll work but I am not the public for that kind of marketing. I would prefer intricate concepts with super unique smells at this price range.

Jeremy screwed his business model. He advertises these fragrances as practical options for each occasion. Demonstrated in how he talks about them and his packaging and presentation. Price wise though they’re geared towards a more premium niche fragrance especially with this one. If office was in the $60-80 range date being $90-110 and black tie being $120-140 I think it would work a lot better as a business model.
