You gotta install java though. Yeah back in 2009 navicat was the only options for GUI. Then dbeaver came out -- everyone basically went to dbeaver around 2010. Most newbies know nothing about dbeaver or which java to install.

@@LearnBI DBeaver community is free and just at first glance has more connectors and features. It's open source so you can also use community add ons like interacting with Excel files, which is gated to the premium version here. This is still a step up from the generic PG one though as you say.

I remember using this back in ~2009 or so. It was a good microsoft-only program back then. I think it works with linux now. Good show.

Hi Adam, thanks for this intro to Premium Lite. I initially watched your other video: My Favorite SQL Tool- Navicat tutorial. Kindly create a video on how to connect to Premium Lite which is a fresh installation. I just installed Premium Lite & connecting to my RDBMS instance is not that intuitive. My Premium Lite installation entails logging into a personal Navicat account & once you login, the top Left side has Navicat Cloud & the rest of initial page is blank.

My first thought was to reach out to you, since you were the one who introduced me to Navicat plus I thought you would have a solution to this hurdle. This free version of Navicat is not similar to the other versions of Navicat that you feature on your youtube

This is a database management tool. You don't need to connect it to BI tool.

It looks nice, but I tried to use it in Linux (it is distributed as an .appimage) but it unfortunately it did not launch. No errors were displayed, it just did nothing. Maybe in the future I will try it again, but now I don't have time to which the problem could be. I will continue using DBeaver for now that works without problems (as I said, I may try it again in the future). Anyways, thanks for the suggestion!

what about for the companies that require you to have mysql knowledge, tablou, power bi etc..do i just learn those separately? or if their database is in mysql i can just take their database from my sql and put it on MY navicat and do work there? bit confusded. i also do not understand how im supposed to conenct to their database.. like when i go into connections it says mysql so iclick on that but its asking me for a conneciton name...host:, port, username/password but idk what any of that is.

It's a very nice tool (especially comparing it to SSMS), but I don't like that it has editmode as the default mode. It seems very dangerous to me. Isn't it possible to turn this off and just enter editmode on request (by tapping on a cell)?
