Rudeus doesn't deliberately feign weakness. His experiences battling formidable opponents and creatures have led him to overestimate the strength of those around him while underestimating his own abilities. His father, Paul, possessed extraordinary talent. Ryujard, Ghislaine, and even Eris are exceptionally strong individuals. Not to mention Orsted and the countless beasts and monsters he encountered on the demon continent, far surpassing any adversaries he faces now. However, he remains largely unaware of this fact. During moments of despair, such as when effortlessly dispatching numerous monsters, he ceases to overanalyze and simply focuses on completing his tasks This is something you learn from the LN and from the author himself. The anime doesnt explain stuff like this

Yeah Rudy outsmarts himself into being overly cautious :/ ...probably in part due to having a lifetime of being a less than ordinary human and then a second lifetime of being surrounded by extraordinarily people dudes self-esteem is in tatters

@@houseofaction Paul is one of the few characters that have all three sword styles to advanced..Its EXTREMELY rare for a fighter to have even 2 styles to that level

They give him the nickname Quagmire because that's the name of his mud spell, where he turns the ground under the opponent into mud to trap them. It's the same way he's fought against Paul both times. It's basically his go to spell / signature move.

Mushoku Tensei does a pretty good job at portraying how depression takes time and is usually a process of stages to work through. Things do not get "fixed" in single episodes. 👍

This is one of the one of those episodes where the first time you watch it you don't really notice it, but on a rewatch and armed with knowledge of what comes next, is absolutely loaded with all sorts of warning signs/hints about what's to come.

Folks are surprised at the panty shrine but Rudeus has been reverential to Roxy the entire time he's known her. After all, who do you think the goddess is that he talks to and prays about? Also, lol, why does the guy with immense trauma from being bullied applogize and try to avoid conflict. Always funny to see folks forget Rudeus had been a water saint since he was 5. He controlled the weather at 5.
