Talk about an awkward teenage phase... Yfke is lifting her tail for Risey and clacking at the same time! 😂 I think they are absolutely adorable together and a good fit! Risey hates being alone, but she doesn't inspire him to be crazy playfull, and he doesn't bully her! Perfect! ❤

He technically is bullying her with the obvious biting because horses need to estalish dominance when they first meet or are reintroduced but he does not bully her in the same way a mare would or in the same way Risey would another male horse, the dynamic shifts when it's a male with a female. A female's role is mainly to protect her foal and herself while a male horse's role is to protect the herd from danger whether in the form of intruders or challengers. So he might snake her around but won't be territorial over his food because a male horse realises that their mares need to be healthy in order to reproduce for them, that's why no matter how frustrating a mare can be when they are protecting their foals or when they are in heat, the male will try their hardest not to hurt the mare unless the mare is being too pushy when she's in heat.

ok .. here are my two cents about risey. ever since risey was dignosed with wobbler i read a lot about this desease, watched videos of other wobbler horses, even talked to people who own wobbler horses. his wobbler is actually not too bad. he enjoys live. he is not in pain. yes, it is a good thing to let him live. yes, he will fall every now and then - like any other horse that slips and falls. trust me, he is ok. he will make a fantastic companion for other horses. im not saying this because i love this horse (even if i dont even know him personally) but because im convinced that he can live like that for many years. he will let you know when his time is up.

Thoughtful assessment. Issues of serious mobility problems and pain will determine if it's time. Hopefully, he'll continue to have a good life, just with occasional hiccups.

I would expect a horse with poor mobility in his hindquarters to lose muscle there but he still looks quite muscular to me, is that a fair assessment

Horses that are not 100% tend to spook more easily. They are very much aware that their injury or condition makes them more vulnerable & are sometimes hyper aware of their surroundings & see threats where none exist. For horses with wobblers spooking at unfamiliar noises or movement can cause them to fall or run into objects because they can’t fully control their body. Putting them with other horses can help them feel more secure & less likely to spook. If their herd mates aren’t frightened or running then they know there’s nothing to worry about. Unfortunately putting them out with other horses can lead to injuries if they run, buck & kick while playing with their friends. It’s difficult to manage a horse with Wobblers or Shivers or leg injuries. Reducing one risk often means introducing another.

@@Bearwithme560 He was always like that even without the wobbler if we are being honest, to remember how he pulled Yvonne when a car approached while he was being led to Stal G on a road and also reared inside his stall aftewards, he also confused his image in the glass panels as another horse and kept neighing, how he kicked at his own mem Uniek when he confused her for another horse after being weaned, how he does not like it when other horses walk/sneak close to his rear, his reactions to mostly everything new/unidentified is nervous snorts or backing up etc.

You know, a lot of later illness in humans, like ME/CFS, or fibromyalgia (which l have), are related to early childhood trauma or PTSD, which rewires the growing brain. Could Risey be suffering an equine version, considering his rough start in life with the loss of his mother? There's so much about the brain that remains a mystery.

When you ask yourself if you're doing it right to let him live, than think about this, does he want to live, because he looks happy, and I know that being dead isn't something he's thinking about, he's thinking about life, and you can tell he loves it, he doesn't care about his problem, horses don't overthink things the way that us humans do. I know in the old days they would have put any horse down that is useless to them, if a horse wasn't a working horse, it was no good to them, they did not accept horses as pets, just as a working horse only, but I believe a horse can be a friend, and a pet.

Yes, he fell - but he also got back up again! If he couldn’t get up on his own, then there would be cause for concern, I think. But he can stand up and walk/trot on his own, he looks healthy otherwise, and seems to be enjoying life with his family. I think you are making the right decision keeping him alive. 😊

It is very sad that Risey will not be ridden or have the life that a horse of his pedigree usually has. But I can;t help but feel that he is right where he is now supposed to be. With Yvonne If he had come down with this affliction with a different owner, he most likely would have been put down by now. Risey brings so much joy and is well loved by so many all over the world. Because of Yvonne and her channel, Risey does have purpose. Risey is valued so highly and helps bring peace and serenity to many, including me. He is also very good with the other Stal H ponies and horses. We never know how long we will have any pet or animal that comes into our life. All we can do is give them the best life that we possibly can and love them and make the best decisions for their care and quality of life. Yvonne is doing just that. I trust Yvonne to know what is best for Risey and always be his advocate. Thank you for sharing him with us Yvonne, It means a lot.

Risey is an exceptional boy, thankfully he fell on soft ground, so he hopefully didn't hurt himself too much? Would physio help him, I know equine physio's do exist. I wonder if there are certain exercises he could do in the arena to counter-act the effect of the wobbler? Yvonne it is an absolute pleasure to watch everyone working with the horses, you always really cheer me up! Keeping fingers crossed for Risey.👍🏻😁

It's a very positive outlook but knowing Yvonne and her team, they would take the right decision for Risey...for sure!❤ Horses fall at cross country could be a bit different than ones who have Wobblers...

Exactly. Besides KWPN despite being sporthorses, aren't really the most steady horses when they are left to their own whim as they can be overzealous no matter how old they get. We've seen this with Sjors as well, pretty sure he had the blue spray disinfectant on his legs too. Risey was always going to be a handful regardless of the wobbler.

​@perce1veALL a fall or injury to Sjors has a different cause than that of Risey and isn't, in my view, a feature of the breed. Sadly, I don't think Risey is living a full life of a maturing horse. I do think that while Yvonne rightly asks herself the question about his future, it is currently emotion that is making the decision and not rationality. As with selling Mario, finances take precedence over emotion. With Risey it is the other way around.

As long as Risey isn't in pain, he seems to be living a good life and happy. A couple of stumbles, even falls, are just part of life for him. Just like a person who is disabled can still live a full life.

I agree. It is good that we are able to give the Last Act of Kindness to our animals and it's hard to know just WHEN that time is; would a lame horse prefer to limp around and graze and basically enjoy life. I wonder just how much pain would cause me not to enjoy life. As to Rosie's 'wobblies' it seems he is not in pain ..... if you have ever seen cats with the 'wobblies' they are unfazed by their condition they are loving happy cats. If Rosie's condition leads to pain that shows in his demeanor Yvonne will know and act for him ❤❤❤❤❤

You have found a much better pasture/arena partner for Risey in Yfke. As for Risey's condition, you will just know when it is time, Yvonne. If he hurts himself or it is apparent that he is a real danger to others (especially you or your friends/family), it is definitely time. Many blessings on you for all you give us. I am grateful.

I do believe Risey was hyper by himself because he was frustrated from not having another horse with him for far too long, I do think he likes ponies but does not socialise with them as much as big horses (like when Coralle and Saly would pin their ears, he'd give them a wide berth but he would not really care how ponies would react to him). So fingers crossed, Yfke will fill that gap for him and make him calmer.

The playfullness won't be as a male colt but Risey seems to already realize she's a mare and needs gentler handling, so we'll see a lot of mutual grooming towards that too, maybe if we are lucky some chase games as well.

I was so happy to see you try putting Risey and Yfke together. I have been thinking for several weeks now that they would make a good buddies. I don't think you're doing the wrong thing by keeping Risey alive. If he falls every once in a while it's not a huge deal as long as he doesn't hurt himself or someone else. I'm sorry you're having to deal with him having Wobbler's Syndrome on top of everything else recently. 😢
