good stuff fellas! big tip with bleeding the injectors if you ever have to do a pump or injectors, remove the all the glow plugs so there's no compression and crank!, not only with it not load up the starter, it'll bleed 4x faster and you can visually see the injectors bleed the air out by the volume of mist (diesel) coming out of the glow plug ports. i dont think i cracked any of the injector lines when doing this cause the pressure will eventually build up to the injector crack pressure and bleed the air and fuel out once you have a nice consistent mist of fuel coming out of each cylinder, slap the plugs back in and it'll start first crank, i think the bleeding process took about 10-15 seconds of cranking for the system to be fully bled! its also a great way to diagnose a pumps fuel delivery or a faulty injector

Id recommend an intercooler before tune makes a world of difference to egts and cooling side of things

1000% agree, colder air in will result in colder air out, as well as the benefits of colder air carrying more oxygen resulting in a better burn. Recommend a front mount so your engine fan is drawing air through it even when moving slowly. A top mount has simpler plumbing, but when heat rises in an engine bay, it tends to heat the intercooler and lower efficiency.

Fyi little trick you can check the boost pressure on that pump if you hook a bicycle pump upto the compensenator one with a gauge it will pressurize the system and show you what psi the comp has been set to 👍🏻

Definitely agree with getting it to a proper tune. A new pin and spring with a known spring rate will help heaps as well. An intercooler will keep the egts down and you’ll be able to make some more power safely. It’s easy to get the pumps giving you heaps of power but to get the most power reliably and safely a proper tune is need. Love the work on the patrol, it’ll feel like a brand new car after.

Intercooler will absolutely be the best thing you can do and bring those egts down. Add a lift pump if you don’t already crank it to 12-13psi and you’ll be stoked.

Mate, take the pump off, find the bloke that sold it top you and throw it at him. Get in contact with UFI and put a solid pump on your motor. Who knows what else this bloke did to the pump. This is delicate stuff and you can damage your motor with poor fueling. Give the car the respect it deserves and go with UFI. Good chance to plug their stuff also as they are a excellent company.

Highly recommend Daniel at down south diesel in Whittlesea formally Campbellfield automotive! He’s done all the work on my TD using all ufi gear, aswell as my brothers gq TD, both have done a 100xxxKM making 200hp 550-600nm And both have done laps of aus!

Definitely recommend Intercooler and more boost to lean out Egts. Got to remember your running 35s and full canopy setup. You really want Egts maxing out at 500 and constant 250-300. Good luck

As a qualified mechanic (not diesel tech) I'd say you did a pretty good job. Like timmy said in his videos, you can tune these somewhat by watching your EGTs (although this isnt reliable for off boost short stabs on the throttle). The car would be fine as it is, you won't blow it doing it how you've done it, but for best performance/efficiency a tuner will be able to set it up well. I reckon turning up the boost a bit more won't hurt, these diesels arent hurt by it. 15psi on a non turbo td42 is fine. As for a diesel shop that knows their shit, can highly recommend rankin diesel. Fairly sure they only tune on the pump dyno, but im sure they could recommend a shop they work with for regular dyno tuning

W2A intercooler and check your aneroid pin running a pump tuned for nearly 15psi and your only feeding it stock boost its an 11mm pump need to feed it. The word you were looking for on the pin is ramp

Hi guys, great video as usual. If you want a professional dyno tune, speak to the guys at CMS Performance in Seaford. I travelled from Point Cook to have Shane tune my GU and I am glad I did. I have had two cars tuned there, a factory turbo GU TD42 which had a 62% increase in power and a 65% increase in torque. Boost pressure was increased from factory 9.9psi to a very mild 14.8psi. They also tuned my 80 Series 1HZ which had an after market turbo installed and it had excellent gains on the standard fuel pump.

Might be worth checking for the little filter under the inlet banjo bolt on that pump, it's quite common for them to block up and starve the pump of fuel which will cause all sorts of issues.

I paired my td with a ufi 18g and ufi 180hp pump with a fresh set of injectors and got it done at diesel tec in Lillydale And she pulls like a train. Haven’t had a drama.

Diesels are robust and even if you think you've got spot on take it to someone who knows diesel tuning because diesels have very high tolerances meaning if something is slightly off, it won't run as well as it should and that can cause issues and major problems. Also a decent intercooler helps. Cold air is more dense meaning more boost. (Top mounts tend to heat soak more)

A lot of the times what the leaking pump and just replacing orings always can be seen done by yanks. As pump rebuild is not cheap. But then it will be a returning problem not fixed due to the wear and tear components. Injection pump is not that simple as it seems to be. Judge by the video the tuning is still not correct almost but not there. I’m wondering if ur close to all state diesel? They are the guy who is best to call. Or Lindsay burrows will be the real pro for you to get in touch with.
