Annette, you need flower frogs to put in the bottom of your vases to keep the flower stems from sliding around. You get them in flower shops. There are different kinds. Some vases like the one on your dining table are jardinières that the covers have holes to put the stems through. Put up you cover so it doesn't get broken when you're not using it.
