Tip: as mentioned before modding / upgrading, after you turn off the psu, unplug the cable …. I turn on my pc to discharge any residual charge in the psu or motherboard ensuring it’s fully powered down. I’ve found you can get an initial boot, fan spins, rgb flickering on for about a second or two before the pc fully shuts down.

Braethorn, I wish you had uploaded this video a month ago. I made mistake number four after getting my new system up and running fine. I added 16GB ram which was OK but also, I added hard drive, not realizing it had a different version of Windows, then all hell broke loose. With all that said the system started doing all kinds of weird stuff. Now for the best of this bad situation...I contacted Alexander PCS and to my real surprise, they were more than happy to issue and RMA to correct and repair my mistakes on their dime! I was really shocked at their TOTAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT and have said so in my posted reviews. They should receive the return tomorrow and I have no doubt, I will have my baby back soon and in 110% operating state. If you are looking for a new PC, I highly recommend Alexander PCS. They are the BEST! Great product, but more importantly, the BEST SERVICE I've seen in many years and I have 68 of those to reflect on. Of course I'll continue watching you even if your tip was just a hair late. But, maybe someone else will heed your words and avoid a similar situation. Keep the Geeks fed!

When the idea for this video came to mind, it seemed so obvious that I was kicking myself for not making it sooner, so you're right. It should have been priority one, and I sincerely apologize for that. Thankfully, you're in good hands! I can't thank TJ and the team at Alexander PC enough for providing me with a recommendation I can genuinely make without hesitation. That's a priceless commodity for someone in my position, which I admittedly put myself in by starting the SIW series. Thank you for your trust, and say hi to the guys at APC for me 😊

Yeah, I had to learn that ups thing the hard way, that is actually how I ended up in the position where I needed to get a new pc (though I did get my use out of my old pc, just wasn't thinking of getting anything yet). Anyway, long story short (I actually made 2 critical mistakes), I had left my computer running I forget what in the background, left, and apparently the power went out (2nd mistake it was only plugged into a surge protector), and I returned to a computer that initially wouldn't power back on, and when I finally got it recovered, it seemed to work fine for a few hours, the screen had weird graphical glitches and artifact, error messages about my data (not shutting down properly), etc., eventually getting to the point of not being able to boot back into windows or get back into safe mode.

Thank you so much for creating this content for the community. Super impactful. Your videos are beyond helpful for first time custom PC owners like me. I stumbled across your videos this month while researching what the best configurator company would be for me and the knowledge I got from you was that and MORE. I have a deeper understanding of the value and care that goes into a PC now - from the hands of the builder, to the shipping company, and finally, owner. You’re my hero! 🎉 I will NOT panic when it gets here now. Feeling so good. I’ve waited for this moment for years since I was a teen. I used to (attempt to) play games like League of Legends with 800 ping and use audio production software on a 250gb refurbished MacBook laptop (lol) because I couldn’t afford to invest in a PC until now, in my later 20s. Thank you for being a huge part of my journey to get here and for providing tips to maximize and prolong this investment. My inner teen is grateful for the guidance and so excited to create and play.

@@Salmonella4Skin They just received my PC in the last hour. They say allow 5 business days from date of receipt before requesting the status of my RMA. @kkona38682 жыл бұрын
@@kamrhd then why are 1000 watt PSU's recommended for them?
@kamrhd2 жыл бұрын
@@kkona3868 They’re not. Well actually they are for one certain gpu/cpu combo but that’s it lol 3060-3070 ti = 650-750w 3080-3090 = 750-1000w(depending on your cpu)
@braethorn2 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea to match your UPS to the nominal (listed) power of your PSU. While you will rarely use that wattage, it's well documented that higher end 30 series Nvidia GPUs tend to power spike, suddenly drawing wattage above their listed TDP. It can be difficult to find a UPS rated for 1000w and when you do, the price will shock you. However, you can get a refurbished one with a new battery installed for roughly half the price! I've not purchased from this company myself, but you can see an example here: tinyurl.com/dkftbtm4 @Kamron it's important to remember efficiency ratings. An 80+ Gold rated PSU by definition provides 90% efficiency at 50% load and 87% efficiency at 100% load, so if your system components ask for 870w of power, the PSU needs 1000w from the source. That's why it's important to consider a power supply that is rated for higher wattage than specified by Nvidia, not to mention the fact that Nvidia made those recommendations well before 12th gen Intel was released and a 12900K will try to hog quite a bit of power under load.

I just got my Skytech Prism II. All is well but I am limited on space and had to place it on the shelf that's built in to the side of my computer desk near the floor. So the PC case isn't directly on the floor but a few inches from it and resting on a different surface... Would this be okay for the time being until I get a bigger desk or end table? New to PC BUILDING. $150 on a UPS is not a hard sell, and this is the first I’ve heard of one. Even a good gaming router, modem etc, costs about that much I think. If the difference of losing a $2.5k setup is $150… come on.

Hi Brae, I've got the Centurion from Alexander PCS currently on the way, with the i5-12600k, ASUS 3060ti TUF OC, 32gb ram, the Galahad cooler, and a 750w power supply. Does the UPS have to be at least 750W, does it need to be more, or can it be less? Any recommendations for a good brand one? Thanks for introducing me to APC's, and all the tips, I'm pretty excited about it. LGN!
@Fueled_Battery2 жыл бұрын
A 750 should be fine. If its a 750 80 plus gold thatll be better. An 850 power supply would run everything you have with ease and even more which might allowing your cpu to run at its overclock without you doing anything. Id also possible go to an i7 instead of an i5 for just a little bit more of performance.

Is there a way to get the computer to shutdown on its own if the uniterruptbale power supply is needed say if you're not home or whatever? Also, what about anti-virus software? Is windows defender good enough these days?
@Salmonella4Skin2 жыл бұрын
I did a mild amount of research regarding antivirus a few months back, and a lot of responses from people I was reading is that if you are already smart about what sites you visit, or where you download any files from, then Windows Defender should be just fine for you. I have been using it for months since then, and have had no issues. I just run a few scans once every week or so just to be safe! Feel free to read some people's thoughts on this from some reddit threads or something, because I am by no means a PC expert!
@braethorn2 жыл бұрын
@Salmonella4Skin is correct, Windows Defender is usually all you need. The biggest security risk most people face is themselves, so watch out for phishing emails and be careful what sites you visit. As for the UPS, as I mentioned, some of them have USB connectivity that allows you to set up software that can shut your computer down properly in the case of an outage after a specified time.
