Hello thanks for sharing this . I wanted to see a real life use case for the digiface in nearly the same scenario as you are using it! I have a Focusrite clarett 8pre and a clarett octepre with a bunch of outboard gear. I about to invest in a Ferrofish pulse 16 and needed a way to bring it all together with adat. This RME PRODUCT looks perfect to hook it all up !! Thanks again

Motu also makes a version and it's the LP32. Unlike the rme the motu has a dsp mixer with effects. EQ, gate, compression, etc. For about the same price. The routing on both can be some what confusing I've used both with out compromise. Good luck.

@@GROCMUSICCO BUT...MOTU's drivers are inferior to RME (long story short, get the RME).

Good vid. I'm looking to use the digiface with my mackie d8b and sdr but need to see more on how to setup. I just wish there were more thorough videos on the digiface.

Yes you can use the MOTU 8pre (fwire or usb) with the RME Digiface via ADAT only (4 of them actually). They do not have to be connected as an interface.

I’ve been curious about this product, do you encounter any clocking issues without the use of BNC cables?
@GROCMUSICCO2 жыл бұрын
Actually it is very solid. Everything syncs up nicely and hasn't glitched on me and seems very stable. Time will tell as drivers change and new updates to windows start coming. The RME drivers are great.

From an RME Video, I know that it is no discussion whish clock you have in a System, if you hook up one RME device, they put their clock overall others clock. they dont take care.(German Engineering at the finest) Cause they know they have the best steadyclock FS out there. I´m asking why you dont buy a UFX 2 from RME Interface cause this manage your whole studio too, maybe with less outboard and boxes from diffrent Brands ?

Do you lose the audio interfaces outputs connecting them like this?
@GROCMUSICCO2 жыл бұрын
Actually yes. On the Motu 8pre it has mains left and right when using it as an interface. I use 2 outputs from the Behringer for my main monitoring.
@Joedoriamusic10 ай бұрын
The RME Digiface is the interface replacing them (a far better one at that).

Does anyone know if an Alesis Hard Disc Recorder (HD24-XR model) will send an audio signal via the ADAT outputs to the RME even if I am not actually recording using the ADAT Unit? (Basically, just using the Alesis as an interface between my analog mixer and the RME Digiface. I want to use my analog mixer TRS analog outputs into the Alesis and from there to the RME unit then to my PC DAW via USB. Thanks in advance. Phil

Do you get any timing, sync or phasing issues using different converters from different brands or does the RME sync it all up perfectly?
@GROCMUSICCO Жыл бұрын
Once they sync everything is seamless. I can't really tell the difference in sound quality between preamps.

@@GROCMUSICCO I also find in preamp shootouts I find there is minimal difference and I rarely have much preference. I'm just unsure of which way to go in terms of connectivity. It seems like there are way more options for converters and preamps in the ADAT format and they are also much cheaper. However, there's MADI, AES and DANTE to consider which seem much more capable 'pro' formats. I could get a RME digiface and a ferrofish pulse 16 converter and then an ada8200 for preamps (or no ferrofish and 2 or 3 ada8200s or asp800/880). I could get a RME madiface USB (£350 more expensive) and a ferrofish pulse 16MX (£200 more expensive) and I'm not sure about madi preamps. What advantages am I getting here? Then there's things like presonus studiolive III 24R which can act as an audio interface or work in conjunction with an RME digiface AVB. Then there's Midas DN4816-O which gives 16 inputs over ultranet - I'm not sure if this is compatible with RME AES or not. Also Midas DL16 AES50 and again i'm not sure if this works with RME digiface AES or not. What I really want is solid reliability that just works and with low latency. ADAT, MADI, AVB - i'm not sure what is best.

I just got a couple motu 828mkII cheap. Probably because no one uses firewire anymore. I'm hoping to gain 16 channels by using adat outs into an RME digiface usb. Think the motus will work standalone for this purpose?
@GROCMUSICCO Жыл бұрын
Yes if I'm understanding you correctly. You will be able to access the ins and outs of the 2 units from the RME. On the other hand they are firewire and you should be able to cascade them using firewire ports. You make one the master and the other a slave. The optical ports may only give you stereo outs. Don't quote me on that. Using just the optical outs you lose the function of the DSP on the Motu units. Good luck.
@zoolog2012 Жыл бұрын
with 828 in adat mode you can choose 8 ins or 8 outs

What did you do with your Dante stuff?

When I had issues getting parts for the X32 I decided to part ways with it. I didn't want to end up with a giant paper weight.

@@GROCMUSICCOThank you. Are you still using the Digiface USB or have you transitioned to MADI or anything else?
@johnwalter64102 жыл бұрын
Motu has not come out with a new interface in years. They are so far behind its a miricle they are still in business. They are still selling the same shit they had 8 years ago.
@GROCMUSICCO2 жыл бұрын
I could've just went with 2 ADA 8200 and got the same results and saved some money. Better yet I could've gotten maybe a Presonus rack mixer for what I ended up spending and had more channels. The point of the video was really just to show how to use light pipe to connect multiple interfaces for more channels.
