Hey! If anyone is considering buying the course here is my mini review. I bought the course when I saw it on twitter and finished it in 2 days. For what its worth, I am an experienced Blender user, somewhat ok at shader nodes (thanks Erin) and played with geo nodes but haven't got very far. What I expected from this course was to get a solid foundation to build on so I can get better at geo nodes independently. Course has pretty good pacing and the language is pretty clear. It improved my technical vocabulary so I can research and ask questions more easily. It also improved my understanding of fields system. You will learn some applied maths which will definitely help you to solve geo nodes problems of your own. I also think learning and playing with vector maths is incredibly helpful for any 3D artist. The course has a good amount of repetition that will teach you some essential techniques but it doesn't get boring. It teaches geometry scattering, scene building and animation (I can't stress enough how great this part is). The scene you build utilizes the power of proceduralism in a great way and I already used some of it in an ongoing project of mine. It does not focus on creating objects from scratch such as vehicles or desks etc.. In conclusion, I got what I expected from this course. I think I got the solid foundation I wanted. It was immediately helpful in a scene that needed a procedural way to blend some grass and buildings. It saved me from some repetitious texture painting. I am also in progress of making some jars that procedurally gets filled by any thing and any amount. Thanks Erindale. Great KZbin channel and a great course. Take care!

I bought the course and I'm working through it right now. Just wanted to let you know that I (being an engineer) really appreciate the very methodical way you are presenting it and even more so the organization of your setup. Tremendously helpful. Thank you for that.

Wow, I can't say enough good about this course. For the last couple months I have been trying to learn Blender, starting with the donut and several Domestika courses, but each one ended in frustration and hours of work going sideways, being left dejected. I was almost about to give up when I remembered blender guru mentioning Erindale. I thought it would be too advanced and 'mathy' for me but I couldn't have been more wrong. They're the best teacher I've ever had. 1. Thorough explanations given in a clear, concise and calm manner, explaining the why, the interrelations i.e. how the nodes actually work. 2. It comes with project files that are built up already so you can focus on learning the nodes. 3. Advice on organization. Visually grouping / labelling node groups, hot keys to noodle organization makes it far less daunting and better able to understand what's happening when you build up many node trees. 4. Gently invites queries back to you, causing you to reflect and think harder about what you're doing. Thank you so much for this course! I'm so excited about going off and doing my own projects with the node functionalities we learned.A lot of other teachers don't actually teach processes or give explanations, you're just following along with them as they do something, which is fine, but if you want to learn the building blocks to apply across many situations then this course is an invaluable resource. (My only suggestion would be to also include a tutorial on how to export the project once you are done since some of us are complete newbs. I looked it up on wikihow.)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed the content. With regards to exporting the project, do you mean rendering out an animation or exporting the meshes so you can use them in other software? Good luck with your projects!

@@Erindale I meant rendering it out as an ffmpeg so I could have the animation video. Didn't even know you could render out the meshes. It's very simple but I had never done it before. Thanks so much again for teaching us these brilliant courses. I have your node add on's too so excited to dive into that as well. 🤗

I purchased your "Procedural Materials in Blender" course and really enjoyed it, I learned a lot, and continue to refer to it when I need to create complex materials. So I had decided to take the one on "Geometry Nodes", but since there were a lot of things changed since version 2.93 of Blender, I was a bit lost... This new version is timely for me, and I really wanted to thank you for making it available for free to people like me who purchased the previous version. Thanks again.🙂

I just completed the course and it was better than what I thought, when you explain the math behind a node to understand the behaviour and result that you will get it helped me out a lot, and even more on those nodes that are kind of scary to dive in. I loved it and for sure will be looking for your future proyects!

Hey Erindale ! With version 4.1 of Blender, will I have trouble following your courses (beginner/advanced) because of updates since version 3.3 (on how nodes works, etc.) ? Thanks ! :)

There are some changes and updates but I think the fundamentals are still valid. I will be making a new beginner course this year but that won’t be for a few months yet

i know its a beginners course but i doubt most people that would purchase this course need to know how to set up blender and how its UI works. Im interested in this course since im new to geo nodes but the first third would be stuff i already know...

I think a good portion of people buying this course are actually jumping into Blender from other DCCs so it's helpful for them and skippable for everyone else. In which case you can jump straight over the first 2 of 24 sessions 😁

Hello Erindale! I bought the course and was watching the episode ''Scattering a collection'' and following along. For some reason I can't see the grass instances. I only see tiny orange dots instead. I also checked both provided Blender files and they are the same, grass instance is not showing. Is there anything I am missing? Have you heard similar issues from other students so maybe you can guess if there is anything wrong? I tried scaling up the instances and applying transforms but it didnt work. I am using Blender 3.3.1 Thanks
@Erindale
@Erindale Жыл бұрын
Have you definitely got meshes in the collection you're scattering? And the visibility is set to show? If you want to hide a collection of input meshes then disable the collection with the tick box

@@Erindale Thanks for your answer! However my issue was something else. I just wanted to update if anyone looks at here for a solution. GPU Subdivision was checked under Preferences>Viewport>Subdivision. I just had to uncheck it to see any objects which has subdivision modifier applied.

Are these courses still relevant with 4.1? Or do you have an updated course?

Generally still applicable as it’s foundational stuff but I’ll be making new beginner courses this summer for the new Blender versions. Might be worth waiting so you don’t have to pay twice

Hello! Is it possible to have a session with you about specific geometry node questions I have? I am trying to create points inside the volume of a custom object, then connect every point to the closest 'n' number of points (limited to points that won't result edges outside of the geometry) then use this custom matrix to use with the new "shortest Edge Paths" node. I managed to do a 'points distribution inside volume' geometry node, but I can't figure out how to continue. Is it possible to have a lesson with you about this?
@Erindale
@Erindale 2 жыл бұрын
I would think it's not possible to do as there's no "nearest n points" node but you could check out plexus effects. I know someone recently released a tutorial on that in geometry Nodes

is it possible to use simulation tools in geometry nodes?

You can use the Geometry nodes modifier on top of a simulation modifier like cloth. But you can't do physics or loops inside Geo Nodes yet
