Great to see that Giant has futher improve the Revolt range by making it a more versatile bike. They just tweaked perfectly the geometry to make it more lively but gives the choice to make It more stable with the flip chip. I also appreciate the seatpost and stem compatibility with more standard options. This will be my Next bike! If It can find it...

I really enjoyed your genuine delight with this bike and your reminder that the previous model was no slouch. As a happy owner of a 2020 Advanced 2, I’m relieved to report that none of the sensible refinements of the new model, which are fairly subtle, leave me wanting them; given a choice of my current bike and the corresponding new version, I would stay with what I have, perfectly content. Thanks, Giant! 😂 By the way, interesting that in all the discussion of flip chips and tire clearance, the option of running 650b seems to have been dropped.

I really like the revolt. I bet for most people in Europe riding really rough roads, on a long ride, this would be faster than a stiff road bike. Taking gravel out of the equation, this is a great all round road bike. Also do giant specify whats the smallest road tyre you can run on this? (Before the BB is too low)
@davidarthur
@davidarthur 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree. I’ve been riding it as a road bike the last couple of days and it’s barely any slower but the big tyres are a massive benefit on the crappy country lanes I ride which at this time of year are covered in mud, leaves, water and gravel. I plan to swap in some narrower 28-30mm tyres to see how it rides - I’ll ask Giant if there’s a minimum tyre spec
@PeakTorque
@PeakTorque 3 жыл бұрын
@@davidarthur cheers. I can't find anything about it online but at some point ground clearance may be an issue. I'm seriously considering building a frameset as a fast road machine with the softness this frame offers. Can't find the frame in stock anywhere though! Would team it with dura ace group, 30 or 32mm tyre and 52-36.
@slantedorbit
@slantedorbit 3 жыл бұрын
When I’ve mounted narrower tires on my 2020 Revolt Adv 2, the handling quickened up nicely like a road bike, prob equivalent to a flipped chip, with no pedal strike issues, but once I max out the tire clearance again I see no good reason to part with it because I’m not racing and it lets me ride for hours in comfort. Gravel King SS 43mm on a Revolt is road heaven-and plenty fast too.

Great review David, I have the 2021 version of this bike in Chameleon Mars and it’s a fantastic bike and very quick 😁 climbs even better than my road bike !! which I’m sorry to say is now up for sale as bikes like these are just so capable that unless your racing where every second counts then a lot of people would be better off with a gravel bike, far more comfortable, capable and your not stuck on over congested roads so it’s a win win in my book.

Danggit, Scott, this is the sort of comment that's going to make me buy a Revolt. I also have a TCR Adv-Pro (2016 full Dura-Ace; 6.6kg!) but have just hit 40 this month, and really feels like my best days are certainly behind me, with no way of utilizing the TCR's refinements; it's full Gravel-adoption-ahead. I see no way out of it! Sad thing is, my TCR i bought for £2.5k: that weight/spec (+ the last model of SLR-0 wheelset) a real bargain at the time and now it's £1k more for much inferior spec...nothing you can do, however.

Thanks for the thorough review! I’m the guy who likes to ride my bike to the gravel! I love the Revolt because it is relatively quick on the road and fully capable off road. I have a 2021 Revolt 2 I bought for no other reason than the fact I needed a gravel bike for an 11 day bike-packing trip on the TransVA trail and it was the only bike in my size within 4 hours drive. My plan was to buy it, ride the 11 days and then replace it as soon as something better became available. That said, it performed so well on my trip, I now rarely ride my carbon fiber TREK Demone because I love the freedom of tearing down a gravel road when I stumble upon one! And at $1200.00 US set up tubeless, you really can not beat the base build. If I do upgrade it will be further up the Revolt food chain!

Thanks for the review Dave, very interesting changes, you review on last years Revolt Advanced 0 sealed the deal for me to get one in May this year, it’s been fantastic on and off-road. Love it for its comfort, speed, great gearing for hills and handles very well for a older cyclist that like speed. I’m considering a TCR for summer use with 30mm tyres, or just putting a set of zipp 404’s with 30mm , I just can’t decide which route to go, as I’m enjoying on road with current bike, do you think compliance as good as other revolt you reviewed? And for putting the power down do you feel it’s up there with the fastest gravel bikes at present? Keep up the great videos, and great to see your site growing well , your dedication and hard work, and unbiased options very good, thanks Derek

I already have an All-road / Gravel bike, Titamium, fits up to 47mm tires on 700c or 2.1mm on 650b. What sort of use would I possibly have for a road bike when I can put 32mm tires (like a panaracer gravelking SS) on it and ride on tarmac and light gravel all day - or 40mm nice medium size nobbies for some serious gravel ? Coming from MTB this sort of riding is what got me onto drop handlebars. A gravel bike is really the way to go, IMO

great review and helped me make the decision to buy a Revolt Advanced 1. Unfortunately i seem to have bought a dud, after one 10k ride the freehub failed, a known problem on Giants own wheels apparently. the shop eventually fixed that then after the next ride only 35k, the bottom bracket is making loads of noise. Its back to the shop for the 2nd time for a bike that's only 6 weeks old with 2 rides on it. Quality of the frame doesn't look that great either with some visible bumps in the carbon. I love the bike its fast and comfortable over the rough stuff but beware of the Giant quality issues.

@robertporter9344
@robertporter9344 2 жыл бұрын
@@fkrr5 the bb issue is now sorted, the shop said the chain guide was rubbing but it would have meant a misaligned crankset. They stripped and rebuilt the bb and it’s now all sorted. They also did a proper check on the whole bike and found some other loose bolts. Since this I have put quite o few miles on it and it’s holding up well. I still think the frame could be a bit fragile and the paint does chip really easy so I need to put some protection on it. I’m now at the stage where I have forgotten about the initial issues and am enjoying the rides not thinking about the bike. Overall I do think it’s a good bike I just had some teething issues

I would go wider than 32, especially climbing on looser gravel ( not rugged roads necessarily ... But when they spread fresh medium Gravel on a steep, 32c really sucks, need to push stuff you could easily spin a 38c or 40c with. I have an older Giant Gravel/adventure bike: Anyroads 2. I started out loving the stock giant 32c tires. They became unavailable. And I put Scwalbe Marathon 35cs.on. just as I was getting into the serious mountain fire roads (took me time and the pandemic to find the honey hole! And also figure out the legality and opening and closing dates where I live). I carry a good portable pump with a gauge ( Japanese brand Giro) as I always drop pressure for long unpaved segments ( the highlights of my routes where I live) and then fill them back for my paved descents/ climbs back home. Immediately I loved 35 vs 32 even though they were much heavier (on remote fire roads... Robust tires are key)... I found an amazing road with some loose gravel along a very prominent topgraphical line. Almost 500 or 600 meters of sheer 40-80% drop off on the downhill side. I immediately found that the widest rear tire I could take was 40mm and I went with Schwalbe Monrial 700 x 40c. Epic tires. I lose no top end speed on smooth pavement. Actually, as a big guy... I think I am faster in the turns and use less braking. And they are awesome on the fire roads. I don't really need to go wider... And I will never go thinner. Goldilocks shit . Juuuust Right. Oh and have never had a puncture or a pinch flat ( still running tubular) in about 4500 kms of riding them.

Is the chain length still good when changing the flip chip? I see the same question below, but no replies, thanks!

Yup no issues with chain length, the adjustment is only small

Would be curious if you recommend this bike over the new Specialized Crux. I’m not into bike packing so I’m more curious about ride comparison of the two.

How stupid will it look if I put road wheels on the alu version when it arrives? I would like to ride road on skinny tyres and gravel on fat knobbies

Hi Dave. Great channel, enjoying the content. I have a Revolt 2021 you reviewed earlier. I was wondering if you can fit a 30.9 dropper into that model, or does the seat tube geometry say 'no'?

Can you please do a vid (if you haven't already) on stem length vs. head tube angle vs. wheelbase vs chainstay length in terms of bike handling? I'm in between sizes and the classic question of larger frame with shorter 100mm stem vs smaller frame with 110mm stem has arisen. In the Gravel segment, with relatively slack head angles and long wheelbases and longer back-ends, maybe the question of stem length and the liveliness it can offer is more relevant than ever? Or maybe there is no real difference and it's all a classic case of the preference of stack/bar-drop.

I was going to get a Revolt Advanced 0 last month but nothing is in stock and the new model won't be available until next Spring. I also found out the new colorway of the Advanced 0 model is horrendous, both of those 2 paint schemes. So I eventually decided to build a bike with Chinese carbon frame and the same GRX810 groupset. Another thing that deters me from getting a revolt is the hookless rim. Tire choices are very limited

A really lovely bike, which I'm sure, as you say is probably the only drop bar bike most people need. The only fly in the ointment with regard to the one bike for all uses idea, is that what would ultimately be your best road bike will be plastered with mud for most of the winter. I guess if you've only got the one bike, keeping on top of cleaning is more straight forward, but even so gravel bikes get a lot more wear than road bikes. Not always the look you're after.

David, I'd like your opinion on which is the better bike - a Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0 with GRX 815 (2022) or the LOOK 765 RS Gravel with sram rival (2022)? Both are the same price in 2022 and available to order. I'm very confused! The Giant can't be beaten on spec but the LOOK is a much rarer machine. What do you think? Thanks for your help in advance!

Hello David. Thank you for your review. You seemed genuinely excited by this bike. I was about to pull the trigger on a Grizl CF SLX 8 di2. You may have changed my mind. The revolt seems slightly better spec'd. lighter and faster yet can do all the bikepacking? Am I missing anything? I know you've spend time of the Grizl too. I'd love to get some feedback from you.

Looks nice. Doubt many will make use of the flip chip. I like adjustable drop outs but sliding is superior for those of us that use them. Most using this are either frequently changing wheel/tire setup or making use of single speed. Flips don't really allow the latter.

Isn’t the 2021 a bit slacker? And with a long wheel base wouldn’t that make the 21 a bit more stable in tougher sections?

The looks do nothing for me so not a bike I would buy still that doesn't mean I don't appreciate what Giant have done. £5k for that spec is pretty reasonable money in 2021/22 and that low weight is a big bonus. My only gripe would be fitting the cheaper 600 series chainset over the matching Di2 800 series. Might be down to a supply problem.

Thanks for the great review. Currently have a 2017 Giant defy which I am looking to replace and looking for a gravel bike for 70% road 30% gravel. Torn between the Cervelo Aspero and the Revolt. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

great review ( again) , in fact so good i m trying to get one , a long wait unfortunately.just one small point , in your review the model (pro 0 with grx) has crx1 wheels, on the giant gb website it only comes with crx 2 (150 gm heavier ) a slight downgrade in spec and not going to make any difference to me but is there any reason for that?
