It's actually impressive how accurate they've made this game's vibe to those old 007 games.

For so much they got perfect and true to the original, including the 'follow me' NPC who moves infuriatingly slow, the two things that really stand out to me as not being quite there are the enemy death animations, which seem too same-y (Goldeneye had some particularly dramatic death animations depending on where you hit the enemy), and the destructive items like the barrels and crates being over instantly, instead of making a cloud of explosions for a few seconds. You can tell I'm nitpicking, but I do miss those two things a lot, haha.

I think both of those things feed into the same difference I feel from goldeneye in this. Since death animations and explosions are slower, there’s less “chaos” when you’re machine gunning a room full of people. In golden eye there would be explosions chaining together, guards ducking for cover, and some guards going for an Oscar in their death animation drawing your eye over the guy next to him who was very much alive and shooting at you. Goldeneye had some of these things move slower because that made them fun to watch in isolation and added to the spectacle when combined and multiplied

Thank you for being true to the old ways, and by the old ways I mean reloading every conceivable second 🤣

Well this is bringing a tear to my eye, simple things like adding in split-screen is how you know devs know what their audience wants! It would be blasphemy not to add that in, damn I'm super keen for this. I wouldn't have even known about this without being sucked into your Sniper Elite vids, I hope it releases before or around Xmas. Thanks for dropping this & keep up the fun vids :) Love the content dude

Man the sound effects are seriously bringing back memories, me and all my siblings every now & again play Goldeneye on n64 roms, I love the bots animation when shot & the sounds they make, along with doors opening. gun sounds, shooting to open locks some doors, similar objectives to the classic, I cant wait for this to release! Its the first game i've been excited about for years I like that in the mission you play when you get to the facility toilets, the bomb you defuse is in the toilet because thats kinda paying homage to the TWINE level "Underground Uprising" (the railway level where you defuse the bomb in the mens toilet & also its in the last stall... This is awesome I hope the full game drops real soon

needs a few more death animations. Goldeneye had a different one for every single part on the body. Kills in goldeneye feel cinematic. This feels like a game

I just started playing through perfect dark on the PC port. It's great if you want a nostalgia trip and, honestly, it's better than i remember it.

The sound of the guns isn’t quite as “right” as goldeneye. I’m not sure what’s missing but I feel like the sound just worked a bit better. Also agree with another comment that mentioned the unique death animations for different parts of the body, that added so much life to goldeneye. You could machinegun down 3 soldiers in a room and have them hit the ground at different times as they each reacted to the fatal shots a little differently. These guys fall flat so quickly, it also removes that somewhat fun bit of “is that guy slowly dying or just flinching in pain” judgement you need to make when things are messy and you’re prioritizing targets. also feels like the philosophy of encounter design is different. Enemy density is high and it seems like you mainly take room by room, where goldeneye made individual enemies scarier and also pushed sound as an important consideration, with you notifying guards in nearby rooms if you were using a louder gun or keeping everything quiet with silenced weapons. I always liked in goldeneye how it felt slightly less videogamey with the enemy placement, there were generally just enough guards to patrol the areas with a few extras at choke points. The design of this level didn’t really come off like that to me, it felt a little generic with piles of nameless goons rushing into your guns. Goldeneye was a massive labor of love and there’s a lot to learn from it if you want to pull comparisons to it. The graphic style is the easiest part to emulate, but the thought put into every piece is what made it transcend being a licensed game

Nice! I'm convinced nostalgia's not needed to enjoy a game like this, but can't say for certain as it's still slightly nostalgic to me. So I'd be really interested in how you find the game when it comes out having not played Goldeneye 👍

Not being a game available console day one makes this hugely missed opportunity and leaving so much money on the table. Such a swing and a miss.
