Oh man, I have too many opinions about too many things on this one, but I'm just going to comment on Helldivers. I could be wrong, but I don't think their nerfs in the latest update are about getting people to spend more money in-game. They've done a pretty good job of not loading up the battle passes with over-powered weapons. The problem is more that they have a massive arsenal of weapons, and just a couple of them are overpowered, so almost the entire player-base is just using those weapons. From a game design perspective, this sucks, because the vast majority of tools they worked on aren't being used by players, and the ones that are being used off-set the difficulty balance in a way that they don't really want. So the easiest way to handle this, from a game design perspective, is to nerf those weapons so that it's a more balanced playing field. I see a lot of calls to just buff everything else, but that seems needlessly complicated, creates all sorts of new balancing issues (if the difficulty is where they want it to be, then they have to buff all the enemies, too), and ultimately ends up achieving the same balance they're hoping for by nerfing the overpowered weapons. But the problem with the nerfs is, for one, players hate the feeling of disempowerment, and for another, their favorite weapon no longer being overpowered doesn't actually incentivize them to try new weapons. They just get mad about it and complain online. So the whole thing kind of sucks for Arrowhead, because I genuinely think they're trying to improve the game, and they're being very transparent with their playerbase about the changes they're making. But it's probably smart at this point to revert those weapons, let people be overpowered if they're having fun with that, and lay off nerfs altogether for a few patches. It sucks from a game development standpoint, but the most outspoken players drive the narrative, so if you make them happy, it helps the whole game.

I don't play Helldivers, so my opinion on the game is a useless as a butthole on an elbow, but I don't think nerfs in a PvE game are ever a good idea unless you need to fix something game breaking. Look at the popularity of Diablo IV skyrocket once they started buffing it into space!
