Tbh if this is a real teaser, valve has give him the validation to do so, which in my understanding means the project is near the finishing line and we can expect an announcement pretty soon. Especially with valve I cant imagine them giving an okay to a teaser of their most forward looked game and most important IP if its not happening within a time span of a year. Because if hl3 is happening in 2026 thats still over 1 year before its coming out, which is way too much time in Valve terms to tease anything, because they love to cancell projects within the last year of production. So personally I think Especially with external play testing right now, that the game is very near to be finished. I can neither imagine, that they would tease hl3 nor that they make external playtesting of this very important project if the game is longer away than a year. I expect an announcement within the next 3 month's tbh, at least IF this is a real teaser for an upcoming half life game.

And I dont think valve would tease a new half life game when it's still over a year away of releasing. Many believe that we just would get an announcement this year , but personally I believe that if the teaser is real and external people are playtesting rn that the game will be announced and released rather soon than late. My guess would be an announcement in the time frame of March-may and a release in September-November

My GOD he's a great voice actor. I think he played Half-Life: Alyx like a legacy sequel (which it kinda is) by bringing new depth to the character. Think Harrison Ford in The Force Awakens and Dial of Destiny or Tom Cruise in Top Gun Maverick. Valve was worried that he wouldn't really care or remember much but instead he delivered and built on what the G-Man was.

I like how trippy Best Long Dog song is, some of it's notes could serve a role similar to Distorted Trumpets pretty well. Seeing how HLX news show in the last few months + this new post I start to think, that Valve may actually be making a silent promotion campaign for the new title. Everyone knows what Half Life is, so no real ad campaign is really needed and all these little leaks in source 2 files etc is a great shot at building hype. It is just a theory, but if I was Gaben, I didn't have to confess my every move to investors and I had HL trademark, I would order one of my employees to start some controllable leaks like the last testing news myself. Hype train is free and works better than any trailer, press release or even a times square ad.

I bet half life 3 deals with new fluid dynamics simulations (or maybe there's some 4d geometry stuff happening in hl3). as a side note I expected fluid dynamics to be commonplace in the ps4, and when it wasn't I lost all interest i consoles. i was like "oh, so we're not improving the simulation of the game world anymore, we're just getting prettier shaders forever. okay."

It's interesting that you and Tyler are both cooling fans down and saying not a release in 2025. Because I think that (not in Valve typical style) it will actually be this year. I don't think someone experienced like Shapiro comes out and says something like this without permission and I don't think they give that permission unless they're confident something's coming soon. I know that external playtesting can lead to significant changes but Neon Prime -> Deadlock was dealing with a brand new IP where the challenges are bigger. And the changes to Alyx were story related from people who weren't used to these single player challenges - the experienced guys are back at Valve and I doubt something so significant will need changing. So I think they work hard through Spring and get it to the point where they can announce a release sometime around Sep. (And yes, I know, GTA6 too, but a rising tide raises all ships and they're not really competing directly.)
