Good videos! I use rubber plumbing caps with hose clamps to cover ends of pvc pipe. Cross slit end to feed cables through or cut one side to avoid feeding cable then hose clamp. It is a much cleaner look and helps keep mice out.

Hi Randy, The notebook is a great idea! So simple, but I never thought about it:( I hope construction of your new house isn't too stressful (been there, done that) You sure have a beautiful view at your new homesite and with that elevation, you'll be DXing' to your heart's content! A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family. 73, Jim, K8NBZ

Hi Randy, Thanks a lot for another high quality video. Great to see how your shack has been built up. Because I have got into HF recently, my shack also still lacks proper grounding, but till so far that has treated me well. Hope to meet you on one of the bands someday. Keep the videos coming! 73 from the Netherlands, Jorrit PD3J

hey K7AGE, i got that 2 Meter Quarter Wave Verticle Antenna working, i had a bad SO239 connector, the little plastic insulator was missing , so i was getting all kinds of interference, and since i had never seen one before i did not know it was missing, seen one on another video, so i cut off the end of a dowel rod, drilled a hole pressed it in there .....WOW, it works great! Thanks for the great video, I learned allot!

Hi Randy, Thanks for the video.... I just received the same antenna in the mail today and like you I'm in a rental ranch style house. No trees to speak of, just a power pole in the far back corner which I plan on using for the very end of the antenna about half way up, somewhere around the cable lines. Then attaching the box where the coax connects under my Diamond vertical CP6AR which doesn't work worth a darn, but is up about 28'. Anyway how's that antenna working out for you??? A little cold and snowy up here in Wisconsin to be working on antennas, but will throw it up as soon a the temps come up a bit.... Thanks, Mike K9BBN

Just found your videos today(subbed). Awesome so far! Tons of great information. I'm a real newbie when it comes to Ham I live on an island in SE asia probably around 500 square miles all together and I'm still pretty green. I have a couple of BaoFeng uv-5r units and they seem to be pretty iffy when it comes to the terrain (hills and tall trees). No experience with repeaters (no repeaters on the island) or antennas. I'm trying to keep in communication within 10 miles of the house what would you recommend? Thank you for taking the time to make these videos I'm still in the process of watching them

Dear Randy, Happy New Year. What is the harmonic relationship between 40m and 15m ? And why does it often work ?
@K7AGE8 жыл бұрын
+Ade Larsen Here is a page that explains this. A dipole for 40 meters will quite often work on 15 meters. 21 MHz is the 3rd harmonic of 7 MHz. The feed impedance at 21 MHz is also close to 50 ohms. So, that is what allows it to work. This was very common back in the Novice license days when they had both 40 and 15 meter privileges. new-ham-radio.blogspot.com/2010/07/is-it-true-that-you-can-use-40-meter.html

Thank you for your videos! I was hoping you would do a video on grounding. When should you? When shouldn't you? How do you do it?
@K7AGE8 жыл бұрын
+tycallsky Grounding, there is a lot to it. Lots of opinions and theory. Probably best to check the section in the ARRL Handbook. There are also several articles on eham.net including from WB2WIK. Search those out.

I'm using a TRAM 1125 mag mount magnetized to a stainless steel plate, disguised in a plastic flower pot, with imitation Ivy hiding the antenna, outside my bedroom window. With either my dual band Yaesu or Baofeng HT, the furthest repeater that I'm hitting is 25 miles away. Would I have better results with a J pole, near the inside of the window? Thanks and 73

Another great video, Randy. I too am building a new home. I was hoping you could give some pointers on how to add a good RF ground and maybe a 220 volt outlet for a ham shack in the new property. Doing this during the building stage is much easier. Now, if I can just decide on where I'm going to put the ham shack!Rick W0SKITucson
@K7AGE8 жыл бұрын
+azcharlie2009 Have the electrician install a 20A 220 VAC outlet and breaker in the panel for your shack. Grounding, there is a good section in the handbook.

That utility pole setup sure makes me nervous. My advice to others is "Don't try this at home". I have one end of my inverted "V" antenna tied to a pole, but its been out of service for 15 years and there is no power or wires going to it.

not to be a damper here but do you realize it is illegal in the whole united states to connect anything to a utility pole? like i said i hate to be a downer but i hate to see you get into trouble over Code laws. otherwise great idea and will add if necessary through out the video... 73s, ad0am
