I'm just getting started with setting up my first shack and I was looking for information on how to do the antenna and get it outside of the house. The idea to repurpose an old satellite hookup was AWESOME! I don't know that I would have thought of that. GREAT idea!

Speaking of ladders.... it is safer to have your ladder flipped the other way, in case the hinge releases. The way you are using it, it can collapse. Flipped the other way will stop a possible collapse.

As much as I like my MFJ switching power supply, I've retired mine to secondary usage. I'm migrating to linear to help kill RFI, and although it isn't always a LOT of mitigation, with a low noise floor up here in rural nowhere, you can appreciate every bit you can get. What kind of noise floor in your neck of the woods, and do you ever have problems with two switchers?

I think this is a little more for the beginner that has enough knowledge to be dangerous. I actually think you should do a mini series on Ham 101. I like how you mention a base antenna but you didn't go into details, if they are using an HT do they get a tri band just to be covered if they only have a dual band in case they want a tri band HT later, also what about the connectors to the HT, they might not know they are not the same. There is a lot more to unpack for the truly "just got my ticket newbie HAM" Love your channel, and love your shack. Good video

This is a lot of good information. I’m so torn as to what’s next after handhelds - mobile used as the base station? The frustrating part is my vx6r is triband but many mobile stations are dual band so it’s really hard to find an all-in-one type solution. With technology progressing everywhere else in our lives, I’d think more mobile/base stations would have bigger, better touch screens and be refreshed more frequently than their 5-10 year cycles. Anyway, great video!

Beginners 1. Call CQ DX on a repeater. 2. Say, "The first personal here is (your name). 3. Break into an existing conversation by saying, "breaker, breaker." 4. Instead of actually laughing say, "hi hi." 5. Talk about yourself. 6. If no one is on the repeater just drop in your call because once they hear it is you they will be so excited to talk to you. 7. Brag about yourself, especially how you passed a test children as young as five have passed. 8. Do videos without substance by just aiming you camera at a rig and record contacts. (Do not copy K6UDA-his videos generally have substance).

Well, shoot, sorta click bait headline. This is essentially a brag session showing off your station - it shares precious little information about what goes into building a basic starter station. You itemize your gear, but fail to explain or discuss the many considerations involved in selecting a rig, power supply, power meter, antenna, and other accessories. Perhaps you could shoot another video and stay on topic, explaining what is involved in building a station after getting the license. Oh, um , and by the way, I do not like ladders, either. Good luck. JT

Hi K6UDA Just browsing some tips for a start to building my basic shack set-up, and I saw your start-up video, would love to see you recommend a (cheap) starter pack of basic set-up on a video of yours. I was just starting my career as a ham operator, had my license 2yrs ago but fail to do a set-up due to busy career, but still joining net calls on portable HT. Looking forward making on air contacts with you soon! TNX de 4H1JCP Manila, Philippines 73!

KZbin Hamfest 2021: GREAT JOB GUYS (special disclaimer related to K6UDA below) .... I obtained my novice in 1986 and for most of the years between then and now have been an ARRL member and have held several calls, including American and VE7's as well as VK2's while living in Australia, as well as working for Icom for a period of time in Bellevue (Hi Ray, it's Jen the service advisor). I've seen a lot of ups and downs in our community in that time but I have to say, from the bottom of my heart thank you, thank you, thank you. As someone who was watching our community go silent key while the ARRL stood by doing little more than send us more junk mail to buy their junk I have to say that you all have done more in your few short years on KZbin than I saw the ARRL do in the almost 30 years I've had my license. When it comes to making Amateur radio cool and inviting to young hams, the ARRL has been a huge disappointment (in my opinion), happy to sit back and do little more than pretend to fight for our rights in DC while we continue to see our spectrum disappear to UPS and other companies... where were you ARRL? You sure weren't on KZbin making our hobby look cool like these wonderful examples of hams were/are. If they offered a stand alone subscription to QST, I would have cancelled my membership 10+ years ago, the mag is all they have left to give and when they recently came with a magazine targeted towards younger hams, it was obviously in response to how awesome you've all done to getting young people excited, a bit too little too late ARRL. Great job guys!!!!!! YOU all are what the ARRL should be, it's a real shame they still haven't done anything more than toss the occasional lab report on KZbin but where there's a vacuum, something will rush in, thank you all for filling that void for our next generation or radio amateurs. All that said, you all are shining examples for our community and great examples for our kids... OTHER THAN K6UDA! You sir are a shockingly poor example of how to respect woman, and a bad example to the young community the other members of this group strive to bring in. I do NOT want any child I know seeing your half naked bikini women and smart ass comments, bikini clad women are not props for your videos, all the work these guys do to help us, you in one half naked female smart ass think you're funny video blows.....Unless this groups motto is to only bring in new MALE hams, try to remember there are a lot of female young ladies that would be a great addition. Your attitude belongs in the Rugged Radio drinking ATV ripping up trails and leaving trash community, not the amateur radio community... please tone it back!!!!! Thank you all........ 73 KB6JEN/VE7OTH (formerly VE7JOD, VK2WD)
