I think Gryphon’s design is a reference to Yuma, or at least Leo Utopia. And Whale is meant to be Shark. Since both of them were instrumental to Vetrix’s grand plan in the anime.

If that’s the case, it would make sense from a mythological standpoint as well. Gryphons often represent Courage or guardianship, two attributes that Yuma was known for in the anime. He is courageous in the face of danger and refuses to leave his friends behind, even fighting for the villains who he views as friends. His idealism lead him to become a guardian of people as a whole, not just the weak or innocent. There are several instances where he fights for the villains, first with shark then with Vetrix, and finally with Faker. His boss monster is the guardian of the number monsters as well, which have been shown to be both good and evil, the guardian being called Utopia. As for Shark being represented with a Whale it also makes sense. Whales in myth are said to be descendants of the sea gods, known for their power and wisdom when it comes to using it. The connection to the divine in this case being his secret Barian origins, the power aspect a reference to sharks ferocity as a duelist, and the wisdom piece a reference to Sharks development over the course of the series. Some pretty awesome references from a thematic standpoint, it even matches the theme of heraldic using mythological creatures.

I think that the Whale being Water-Fish means that its meant to be a reference to Shark as in another person that Vetrix manipulated for his goals. The reason why its a whale and not a literal shark is that whales have actually turned up in heraldic crests unlike sharks to my knowledge.

It's a little weird though. The entire heraldic beast archetype excluding these new cards is already in the game. I don't think we've gotten an ace card before the character Edit: nvm Chevalier de Fleur appeared in DL years before Sherry did. Both Tron and Sherry were also event exclusive NPCs before they got actual unlock events.

It changes from God Shatter form to God Rage form every time the second effect is used exclusively in that order. 5:00 It's not really new, the effect of making a monster name be Unknown is something that is specific to Heraldic King Genome Heriter in the anime where it can steal the name and effect of a monster on the field which was shown when Tron used that on Photon Butterfly Assassin and turning Droit's destruction combo against her. This type of effect is much like in the anime when God Medallion Coat of Arms is summoned to the field the effects of monsters currently on the field can't be activated. The cards in real life watered down the effects until now where archetypal focused cards and effects have become more prevalent such as Fallen of Albaz, Despia, Visas Starfrost, Kashtira, and so on. The Heradic XYZ monsters original effects being brought back now will be nasty to deal with. 6:38 This effect is merely a watered down version of what Genome Heriter's effect is capable of in the anime.

I don't think Heraldic Beasts were ever very popular but I personally LOVED my Heraldic deck! It was a surprisingly fun deck that I splashed some other Zexal archetypes like #39 and Heroic. It was a lot of fun so I am super excited for these cards. Also Tron is such an underrated character who doesn't get enough love!

the two heraldic monsters i feel are references to yuma and shark. Gryphon gives off vibes from Tron's battle with Yuma and Whale could be a reference to how Tron used Shark up till he lost to Yuma. That effect to change a monster's name to "Unknown" is low-key a reference to Ichibei Hyosube from Bleach, since his brush-like Zanpakuto has the ability to strip anything of its name, effectively negating its power. Also, I can definitely see that effect becoming quite relevant against the meta, especially when dealing with archetypes that require certain naming categories to work.

I think that this support is just what this deck needs to get success in competitive yugioh. Like alot of decks require searching certain cards from the deck soo an ability that can prevent them from doing so would be a great way to stop people from building a powerful board.

His cards should be based on different crests like different kingdoms. Herald crests has to be the coolest sounding archetype. I would give him a bunch of Heraldic Crest Rank up Magics bc it looks even cooler than Barian rank ups. His xyzs could also be his son's aces but intertwined w Barian influence or what they'd look like if they were Barians. Super cool potential w Vetrix. I just hope his support doesn't end here and they keep remixing him

Make these legendary Pokemon one w nature or worshipping the crest and they naturally become galactic levels of power. The rank up crests can be dark magic to cheat up their power or an alt timeline upgrade. His crest can be a clean tank up or the combo of all 3s crests can too or even surpass his rum. Or all the crests can give alts of each xyz or have different methods of cheating a rank up or worship whatever their element is. Or just be dedicated to their elements to cheat out. Or Crest Up Magics can have a wielder on top of the XYZs that brings a certain effect from their usual XYZs.

Unrelated to the effects (that I find cool and I like the uniqueness, I hope they expand on that), but I was convinced that it was dr. Faker that had the numbers 69 and 96 with Earth Heart and Earth Heart Dragon, only by rewatching the duels this year I've remembered that it was actually Tron with number 69 and the two Earth Hearts had two random numbers instead. Memes aside, a missed opportunity.

I can't believe it took until 2024 for us to finally get monsters in the TCG/OCG that count as 2 Xyz Materials (albeit with specific condition and/or restrictions rather than being completely generic), first Drake Shark & now Heraldic Beast Gryphon. It makes sense they'd be completely new cards though. Every monster which could be 'treated as 2 Xyz Materials' in the anime has long since been ported into the physical game - they each had their effects changed too, mostly to become swarmers which can singlehandedly facilitate at least 2 monsters (potentially a second copy of itself which simulates the anime effect) of the same level; only Photon Satellite, Galaxy Tyranno & Galaxy Wizard require another monster to already be on field before they can feasibly do anything (not counting Wizard's search obvs).

So the cool things about Griffon is you can just mill Leo as cost. Leo will then get a search. You can add whale and just keep going. A cool thing with forcefully changing monsters name besides disrupting names for archetypes, like no longer controlling a Shaddoll or a blue eyes or whatnot, you’re also making everything the same name which proccs 18’s effect as a board nuke.

Only thing they harildrey needs more Negate cards and a feild spell haroldrey in between that make your opponents whole feild is treated unknown including their cards in their hand and same with the cards face down defense position

Heraldic Beast Gryphon is look like yuma and astral in is zexal form , the color and the armor look like this , could be more clear if was a pegasus but like the whale there are relation to yuma and shark but no a direct one because tronne is the antagonist and the villan so he use something that look like the protagonist but no really in the end

Honestly looking at all these new support we are getting my only question is why did it take almost 2 decade for Konami to finally print monster cards that allow them to be use as 2 XYZ materials The show even had characters doing that since like season 1 or 2. Yet it took someone what 15 years ? To be like what if a monster can be use as 2 xyz material!
