That pipe and flat stock was a pretty clever trick. WELL DONE!!!!

Thanks for making these videos. I've recently undertaken working on my Aunt's 256 hay rake. I started with the gearbox. Bearings and seals and ujoints for the drive shaft. One of the bolts that holds the fork to the clutch lever backed itself off sometime in the past. The old rake had done a decent bit of work with that bolt rolling around inside. Needless to say the gear set was pretty hammered...... even had what may have been the nut smooshed in-between the teeth of the ring gear. It's looking like bar bearings to be done soon.

Same sort of issues I’ve found with my auction bought John Deer 640 rake. Took all tine bars off and the “knuckles” off the ends, only 4 of the 10 had good seals on the bearings, all were in great need of grease and of course I had the twin (sans rust) bearing to yours shown in one. Before I found your video with all the great knowledge I was going to make it work with a dust cover that really reduced the slop…well, with good grease packed in too, but now I will just replace the bearing thanks to you friend! I bought a scrap 640 as well, so I will see if I can Frankenstein the two to be good for this fall season and work on the other parts over the winter, May come out being able to sell the excess parts and make the money back!

Thank you for showing this in detail, just bought a couple bearings for a bar that has slop, hope it's not a worn out bar or missing snap ring...

I have a new holland 256 rollabar. I can't get it to engage.do you have any idea what could be the problem?also where do you get parts for these old pieces of equipment?
@mikethejoatmon82874 жыл бұрын
Aaron, Easiest part first. Parts should be available from a New Holland dealer. Have ordered from joesmachineryllc.com out of Pennsylvania. (aftermarket parts. Has parts catalog available.) Amazon and ebay also. Engage question: Is cable loose enough in engage position? If you move the engage lever by hand do you feel resistance from the spring on inside of gearbox. Is input shaft from rake wheels to gearbox turning OK when pulling rake. (Could be drive dogs in rake wheels not working correctly). To check drive dogs: Disengage gearbox, turn drive shaft between wheels forwards, should hear a loud distinct click from each rake wheel. Start with these. Let me know! Mike

What tractor is the shift boot for that will fit this?
@mikethejoatmon82875 жыл бұрын
Travis, I didn't use a gear shift boot on tine bar bearing, there may be one that will work though. I used a 1.5" O.D. diameter rubber washer, hardware item. See my KZbin video titled: New Holland 256 Rake Other Repairs. Thanks for watching!

I was talking about the shift boot on the gearbox engagement lever, was wanting to put one on mine but curious what tractor it is for so I can order the right one. Thanks.

@@travisfollowell3310 Sorry about the misinformation, comments were posted under tine bar bearing puller video. I picked up an aftermarket gear shift boot at our local NAPA Auto Parts Store. Part number: S 43727 or Sparex part number S.43727. Fits several different Ford models. Massey Ferguson models 100 series, 200 series, and 300 series. Hope this helps.

@@travisfollowell3310 No problem! I had to do a little cut to fit to match the contour of the gearbox.
