New Holland 851 baler apron chain link repair

Chain breaks in those balers are no fun. I have never been lucky enough to for it to just break one side. Lol. Usually as soon as one side let's go the other side snaps also. ☹️ I have baled with an 850 model baler that we have for 33 years now and when those chains start breaking best just get a new one and save yourself some headaches.

@@robertscottII After We bought our second 850 baler in 1994 it had almost brand new chains in it and we bale a about 250 a year avg sometimes more. That is 28 years and I just last year moved the tightening adjustment up to the last position on it and have never broken the overhead or floor chains yet. Only 3 bearings changed also in the same time frame. The biggest hair pulling frustration has always been string cutting issues!!! Having to get off and cut string almost every bale when it gets dull or dirty.

@@leeroyexcavator9149 I have problems with the right side knife cutting the string. I think if I replaced the bushings it may go back to working everytime. Most times I have to get off and push the knife down. It's just too sloppy on the bushings up top where the needle comes up.

@@robertscottII Yes if string arms are not aligned correctly or the knife gets dull and dirty they will not cut for sure. My 850 baler only has one tie arm but still has been the biggest problem with my baler is string cutting.🙄

Have you ever had any trouble with the door not closing all the way? The one we have will make a bale but when you go to close it...it will come down and shut too far to the right and doesn't close all the way. Any advice would be very much appreciated...

It's always closed right. But there should be some flanges at the bottom to guide the door closed and center. Also the tailgate panel at the bottom is pretty rusted out. Some of that has gotten so bad it's nearly knocked the chain off the roller.

pause the video at 3:41 on the upper left side you can see how bad the tailgate is rusted out. If you look 2 apron bars down you can see that little flange on the tailgate sticking out. That I always thought centered the door. Just a thought. Not sure though.
