Well done! Awesome job. That's how to make a DIY video. Sooner or later I've got to do this with our 5209.

That was very informative. Just subscribed! A great way to use parts books is to search the part number for hits on eBay. Great for old equipment. 👍

Thanks for subscribing, glad you liked it. I did that to for 2 years since I don’t cut a ton of acres with it but I will be doing the annual checks from now on! The shop manual and parts book were the best investments I could have made, I would have been lost with out them!

Thats a real nice video! I have a grey ghost model 5209 and its starting to get more then ideal play in the end turtle been a nice mower but not gonna lie bit hesitant to tear into it this close to season!
@dustinadams91363 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, I hope it was helpful! At the very least I would say pull the tops off and check the grease level and when the top is open it lets you see the bearings also. Being yours is gray like mine I’d guess it has one long hex shaft running the full length of the bar to drive the gears. If there’s anything I can help with just get hold of me, good luck.

@@dustinadams9136 is it possible to flip the long shat around or is it the slide gears that get the wear in them?
@dustinadams91363 жыл бұрын
@@coreydevries9438 as long as it hasn’t gotten bent or wound up it should slide out the end and be able to be flipped around. The shaft should be softer than the gears and do most of the wearing. The replacement I got from a machine shop wasn’t very costly so if it showed much wear I’d replace the shaft.
@coreydevries94383 жыл бұрын

I hate the fact those 4 cap screws that hold the cutter top gear into their individual housings are threaded into those tiny miniscule outcroppings of metal only a couple threads. Over the years the outside units took most abuse. We drilled straight through clamping it together with threaded rod. We had to grind a little of the nuts on the bottom to accommodate both the shoes being mounted. Those 4 screw holes exemplifies engineering at its worst. The segmented drive shafts didn't save that much money when one was rounded off.
@dustinadams91362 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree the 4 screws are a very bad choose, seems to want to break the casting out if you hit something. Thanks for watching and commenting, your idea of changing out the bolts sounds interesting!

@@robertstuart1365 when you slide it try to figure out if the hex shaft is coming out with it or if it’s stuck in the gearbox. My shaft had gotten spon in the coupler and I had to free it to be able to move it. Or pull the end cap off the outer end and remove the hex shaft all together then the only thing connecting the cutter bar and box should be the bolts. I’ll pull the book out study it alittle more.

Everything is driven off the left side or main gear box, possibly the hex shaft spun in the coupler at the gear box. Not positive though.

I can’t find part 2 of the repair. I’m tearing mine apart and holy crap there is a lot of pieces and mine had a lot of rust. There is no one that has a video of taking the octagon shaft out.
@dustinadams91362 жыл бұрын
You take the outer pod apart on the right end , if the shaft isn’t twisted or bent it just slides out otherwise it has to be cut out in pieces. Message me on fb and I can try to send you pictures of the parts book tomorrow

I found the gear box case on line used and there’s shoup supply for more general stuff otherwise any Agco dealer has or could get everything, the new Massey Ferguson ones are basically the same machine. What are you needing?
