Sprinkle a bunch of dog food in your garage. I swear mice and rats magically appear when there's dog food around. I spent a month getting rid of a mouse infestation cause by an open dog food bag. I was catching around 5 mice a night with the walk the plank trap. One night as much as 11 mice. Rats are a whole different story. You don't want those things around.
@hamsterama
@hamsterama 5 жыл бұрын
+brian griffith I made the mistake of briefly feeding the birds last winter with sunflower seeds (instead of safflower seeds that I usually use. Safflower has a bitter taste, so rodents won't eat it). Never had mice before, and now I got mice on my suburban property. Once they come, they never go. They were even running around in my attic. Luckily, they didn't damage anything. I'll be buying snap traps or the electrical Victor traps very soon.
@briangriffith4574
@briangriffith4574 5 жыл бұрын
hamsterama snap traps are great because they are cheap and they work great. If you are willing to order the walk the plank trap I highly recommend it. It's safe around kids and pets and you can just leave it set up all night.

The diagonal pieces at the top is a nice touch - they guide the rodents neck to the single spike so there doesn't need to be a few nails at the top.

Really like how that spike-covering wall in the noose can be pushed down, to release the critter from the spike, without having to handle the vermin.

I think the best improvement was the sheet of plastic that covers the nail because it gives the rat a sense of security if they don't see or feel where it is before they submerge themselves entirely into the trap

Yes, but then you sacrifice the actual distance the noose can travel. It could lead to a scenario where a pest may have a small enough neck to where the noose doesn't actually apply any pressure since it has already reached the end of its travel.

Very interesting to see this trap evolve. It seems like a stout spike could be printed in place as well. Stout enough for strength but fine enough to pierce. Maybe around 40-60 degrees included angle would be about right. (?)
