Shawn, thank you for taking time to review our trap. The video was absolutely remarkable to watch. We also want to thank all your viewers for all the great ideas and improvements they are coming up with. We are taking all their comments into consideration and hope to update our trap soon to make it even more effective. The support we are receiving is absolutely touching and we cannot tell everyone enough how much we appreciate you all. UPDATE: We apologize for the delay in inventory. Amazon is having some issues receiving our inventory due to the large influx of sales. We are now manually shipping out orders from our warehouse until further notice. Thank you for your patience

Some fifty years ago my late grandmother had probably 10, maybe more, similar DIY trap buckets on her land. We gradually quit it when the catch became mostly baby hedgehogs rather than mice. It appeared that as the trees in the area matured, the former field became a forest, and hedgehogs took over and drove away smaller rodents.

Yeah, Shawn tested a wide-table tilt trap somewhat similar to this that worked very well too, but it was made in Sweden(?) by a company long since out of business. (I couldn't find any for sale on the internet.) The wideness of the table seems to give rodents a false sense of security, even more so than the usual walk-the-plant type tilt traps. This is cool in that it has a cap so they can't easily jump off/out, and putting the bait up in the roof is a great idea. Still attracts rodents, but the trap mechanism isn't thrown off by the extra weight. Just a great design.

The way you always take care to mention how you don’t want your pet mice being harmed, so you’ll be placing in some cloth to cushion the drop reminds me so much of the time Mr. Rogers received a letter from a blind kid who was worried he was forgetting to feed his fish, so he always made sure to say he was feeding the fish when he did so. It’s a lovely little bit of kindness!

I bought one of these. It is the best mouse trap ever. The mice never get the bait and it resets itself. I just used peanut butter. . If you decide you don’t need it for a while and you put it away, be sure you clean the bait off of it and don’t leave it set up ready to catch mice. Lol. I put mine away, I just took the little ladder off and set it in the shed. Didn’t mess with it for months. Next time I checked there was three decayed rats in it. Decomposing. Yea, very nasty.

I suspect you might be able to improve the performance (in live trap mode) slightly by doing 2 things: - Put something on the lid to quiet the sound when the flip resets so they don't get scared off, like some rubber tape where the flip hits - Put a couple tiny slits near the bottom of the bucket and a bit of food in there so trapped mice act like a "stool pidgeon" and attract more (live mice inside with food makes it seem safer to new mice coming in)

Hi Shawn! Mate that's gotta be one of, if not the best mouse catcher ever! One possible enhancement - stick some foam tape or something similar under the yellow lid to quieten the seesaw part from making a bang noise when it swings back up. The "flip-floor" needs a damper, so that, when it drops and snaps back into place, there is no clicking sound that could scare away some of the rodents. Also, the trap door could be more stable at the middle, so that the mouse will go completely towards the tip, before gravity takes it down. That trap seems to have the advantage of not letting the rodents see down into the bucket, and giving them a sheltered-looking area to get trapped in. Maybe a magnet would help catch the smarter mice. The raccoons and vultures should be offering a commission to anyone who buys this trap.

You could probably alter the center of gravity slightly outward by adding some weights under the other side of the flapper. Then it would tip later.

The trap may work for mice in a controlled environment. I did not catch a single mouse in an outdoor environment. There was evidence of it not working as the peanut butter was eaten clean without a catch. I did catch a few chipmunks until the plank warped from heat and they would no longer walk it. Also, rodents began chewing through the lid to eat the peanut butter from the top.

This is a clever variant of the old bucket trap we used in my childhood, and probably my parents childhood too. Back then you'd just take a bucket, put a waxed paper over it, secure it with rubberbands, cut an x into the paper and then smear the middle with butter. This is the same principle, but the balanced hinge makes it better for handling different sizes of rodents as it's more "digital" in it's behaviour..

This idea is not new. Here in Australia we used a galvanised steel version 45 years ago. It was basically the same idea except the top could be entered from both ends with the treats in the middle. It had rubber grommets on the trap door and made absolutely no noise. I was sadistic back in those days and preferred not to put any water in and leave it for a few days before i checked. I used to laugh so much because there would only be 2 or 3 in there but they were so fat that their feet could hardly touch the ground. These were obviously the alpha mice who just ate all their mates to stay alive. Then I'd put some water in and watch them sink cause they were so heavy. Oh those days were so much fun.
