Maybe even check out the Comica Boom X-U as well. I've had zero dropouts with it compared to nontop dropouts with the Rode. I shot a video outside standing maybe 10' from my camera with my transmitter on my hip and the audio cutout non-stop and wrecked my video.

One thing to mention is the Rode has the in-unit record function, which was never an issue for me since I don't do separate audio/video recording. I chose the original Blink 2-person for our church video because it was $100 less than the Rode and I didn't need the record function. I was thrilled to see the new Blink Pro model, has all the right upgrades, and today was $70 off. I bought one for myself today. Yes, it is odd that they changed the on-unit charge port to USB micro from USB C on the original Blink. Not a deal breaker just a pain in the cable butt. Great review, thanks for this, liked and subscribed.

Saramonic is the best! I got UWMIC9 4 years ago, I got Blink500 b2 last year, and now looking at this real little dual mic masterpiece! Woaw! That micro usb is a bit weird. I wish somehow the headphone jack on the receiver could double as a third lav mic input so I could record myself behind the camera with a third wired lav when I interview two people at the same time. I have to always do realtime mic swaping among my interviewees in those situations which is a bit awkward. I want to know which lavs one could buy to upgrade the Blink 500 Pro's quality, if needed, is the lav quality the same as on my Blink500 or on my UWMIC9? It's the one thing I always kind of wonder about, if I should get other lavs (hopefully not too expensive ones) to upgrade the quality. Otherwise also I wonder what is the actual quality difference between my UWMIC9, Blink500 and Blink500 Pro, also I wonder what can be said of the quality difference between the Saramonics and a much more expensive dual wireless Sennheiser or Sony system. That charging case, I am so impressed, it is so brilliant. Yes one could attach (using gaffer tape or something) some kind of pouch to the side of that case it to transport all the cables, lavs and stuff. They fixed the battery, on Blink500 it's too short.

Hey hey again Charbax! The lav quality is more or less the same as the original Blink. These are all mass bulk lavs so I doubt they've changed all that much. The only thing that changes the sound a little bit is their preamp and processing inside the transmitters. A lot of people seem to like the JK branded mics, though I have yet to really try them out. However some 2.4ghz systems seems to cause interference in them based on some of the youtube reviews I've read, but I still would like to try them myself one of these days as their price isn't too bad. You already saw my massive comparison video where the the Uwmic9, BLink500 and Sennheiser were in the same tests. When it comes to these 2.4ghz budget systems, they all have a lot of processing going on cause they are meant to be a one and done solution (minus the Uwmic9) when you get to these other systems that do not process the audio that much, thats where you'll start to see some differences (if you can hear it) Otherwise these budget systems all do a good job to give you something to work with at a cost thats unheard of just 3 years ago. From there its up to your audio post production skill set to sweeten it for your own voice. As for the interview lav situation where you want 3 lavs total, to avoid any major problems when you start editing in post you most definitely would want to have a 3ch recorder so that if someone is making all sorts of noises you can cut that out. If you hard record all of it into the cameras 2 channel you run the risk of potentially ruining a take if someone keeps scratching at the mic or something. What you could do is just get a small recorder for yourself and you'd sync it up in post so that you can use your voice where needed. Not the best all in one solution, but its something easy for you to keep your in pocket with a lav so that you don't have to have a bulky 4ch recorder strapped to your camera.

The -12db is where I like my voice to sit while talking, most cameras will have a audio level bar option that you can have show up on your camera screen so you can see how your voice is spiking up and down while talking. Idealy you can have it bouncing between -12dB and -6dB which are usually represented by the 3rd and 2nd dash in the soundbar (some cameras will have it labeled. With sony Cameras you want to watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJnCmJl7qKt6qqM If you have a Panasonic, disregard that video. Once you have your levels setup. Go search on youtube for "Curtis Judd Dialogue" a few videos will pop up, but it should be the first one, that teaches you how to get your audio sounding better. The key feature is that Mono and Stereo split feature that I mentioned. The stereo split feature allows for more post editing options when you are working with two people talking to each other. Correct, you need to use a 3.5mm to XLR Stereo splitter so that you can record each TX to its own channel when using a recorder. Make sure your RX is set to Stereo output and NOT mono. DO NOT buy a 3.5mm to XLR cable, you will not get the split recording between the two TX. It will just mix it together into a mono signal because an XLR cable is only a single channel signal.

Hey Hey again Gabriel! Funny enough I was helping my friend with a corporate shoot early this week and he had some system 10's. From what I heard on playblack, it sounded nice. But I would say its a different tier of products as it is more traditional in size vs these smaller ones. My guess is that it can sustain a stronger signal with its antennas, but the RODE GO II is doing quite well for its size and distance ability. When it comes down to it though, the common person is probably not going to be using a wireless system to film someone 100 feet away unless they specifically do conferences. If you are just at home, in a studio, vlogging, interviews etc where you're essentially always within 20-25ft of someone, all these systems will do decently well. It just depends on what form factor do you like, battery type, and any additional features you need to perform your task.

Hey hey Ricardo! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The GH5 puts out a -12db test tone when I go into the SMPTE mode. From there I calibrate my Tascam DR40 to that -12db level. This ensures I stress every companies TX preamp at the same level so that when I go into the waveforms, I can see how much "post gain" I need to add to get my voice near the -6db mark. This tells me how aggressive is the audio processing in these units in terms of its Signal to Noise ratio. And what one can expect the noise floor to sound like. Essentially this is the only way I know where I can stress every system the same way so we can find the difference between each system I test. Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for stopping by! If you're looking to wire up the talents, then both I feel perform about the same due to their lav mic begin the common factor. That being said, if you're in a country that allows for the free use of the 500mhz UHF frequency that the BOOM X-U uses. I would use that to avoid competing with other 2.4ghz frequency in the area when you are live streaming. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey Waleed! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! It depends, the two you mentioned are not similar in how they transmit a signal. Blink is a 2.4ghz system, Boom XU is a 500mhz system. They are completely different systems and are not compatible with each other. 2.4ghz you are familiar with, its your wifi and everything around you. 500mhz is more like radio stations and maybe TV broadcast. So there will be with different amounts of "traffic" on the frequencies depending on where you are. 2.4ghz systems have its own algorithms to signal hop in real time to try and be on the cleanest channel, but its not always perfect. UHF systems, some of them have Freq. scan to try and fine the cleanest channel ahead of time, it usually does not have frequency hops that Im aware of. 2.4ghz are shorter waves, which means it has a hard time getting through walls or things blocking its way. UHF is longer waves and have the better ability to get through obstructions (pending on material) but it may not always have the longest range depending on power used in the antenna. Lastly, depending on your country, you need to know if you can use the 500mhz or whatever UHF frequency on the wireless mic freely. I just got the Comica BoomX-D D2 (which your review had a hand in influencing my decision over the Rode WG) but I'm encountering an issue where the receiver is not showing the audio level for one channel (when used in Stereo mode). It's likely defective so now I'm thinking of replacing it with this. I'm intrigued by your comment that potentially the micro-USB port could be used for FW updates. Have you tried plugging it in to your PC/Mac to see if it recognizes it as a device? Would be awesome if the PC did recognize it __and__ be able to use it as a mic too.

Hmm that sounds like it could be a defect, as of currently if I had to tell someone what dual channel 2.4ghz would I recommend. It is easily the Blink500 Pro. The Comica XD does not hold up against the Blink500 pro. As for the USB firmware function. The computer does not recognize it as anything and only just delivers powers. This is most likely one of those cases where Saramonic is going need to create a firmware injection app of some kind as that App would be the one to recognize a unit being attached to the computer. The reason I don't is because I am already using the system to record the talking head portion of the review. If my eyes don't immediately notice it in my videos when editing, then I don't dive deeper into it. For context, this video was shot in 30p with 10+ wifi networks around and my smartphone and laptop nearby. I don't know if wifi being around causes more latency as I don't recall my Blink500 videos looking like they had a latency issue. Thanks again for stopping by! Ditto-would love if someone could do a test on this. I also did a test on my "old" Saramonic 500 and got 65ms. Terrible that they actually spec'd it at 12ms for the consumers-outright lie and it's cost me time and a lot of headache. Would love to know if they've improved that area-and Saramonic apparently are not great at getting back on the customer support end regarding this issue. Seems like they know they've been caught on this one.

Love the features and it looks great too. Just one thing based on your demos and some other vids I was able to check out; the audio sounds muffled with the included lav mic comparing to the rode. Might it be the problem with the included mic being cheap? I mean I'd totally pull the trigger and swap for a better lav mic for all the nice features if that's the case... Hey hey Shoot Edit Repeat! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Because I did not have RODE's official GO lav, I used my $100 Deity W.Lav for comparison. There is two things to consider about the difference in sound, mainly how the pre-amp and processing is done internally. The RODE's goal is to give the flattest EQ curve while the Saramonic is probably favoring a little more bass as thats usually whats missing in some people's voices. Between the two, the Saramonic would sound muffled in a straight comparison. This can be remedied in post with a little EQ adjustment. A better lav will help the Saramonic out, especially if the sounds gets too explosive, but the included lav will do pretty well for someone starting out with a little EQ to sweeten the persons specific type of voice. I agree, the built in mic sounded surprisingly good. For casual filming where I wouldn't need to lav someone up, the built in mic sounds really good! Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! When it comes to Narrative work, I would choose the Boom XU over the Blink500 pro, simply because it is using 500hz instead of the more common 2.4ghz. In my testings the Boom-XU was just too good in and out of line of sight that gives me more peace of mine when using it in various areas. @@TLDR_filmmaker I agree fully; my 500 MHz wireless mics are unbeatable. (For the benefit of newbies: The Boom is 500 MHz, not 500 Hz. But increasingly, regulators are clawing back the 500 MHz to 700 MHz spectrum from wireless mics and reassigning it to other applications, thus rendering the wireless mics illegal to use, because they'll interfere with the other devices. In fact, all the 600 to 700 MHz might now be gone. I use three Sennheiser mics each configurable from 518 to 554 MHz in an area where the 500 MHz is still available, and I can transmit amazing quality about a half-mile with zero dropout.)

If you haven't already, all you need is a TRS to TRRS cable to get it to work with your phone. If your phone doesn't have a audio jack, then you'll just need to get the adaptor for it. I understand this is more wireless than desired so there are systems that the Saramonic Blink has where you can plug a receiver directly into your phones charging port. Its convenient, but the chances of you snapping it off is a bit higher depending on your use case, and they usually don't have any passthrough charging port if you want to charge and use the system as the same time. So it's kind of a toss up on what works for you. Do you want to rig out the cellphone a little bit or do you want just a receiver attached and call it good. Hope this makes sense and helps! I understand, what I mean when I said you should "rig out the cellphone" is to buy a cage frame setup so that you can attach your XSW to it and not have it hanging. Because you will still need to do this with the Rode Go 2. If you search for cellphone cage or cellphone filmmaker cage on amazon you'll see what I mean. Its not the most streamline solution, but it solves the problem for wireless audio. Hope this further helps.

Discovered this channel while browsing the Sarmonic website and needed more info...then I binged your other videos lol... you are full of so many ideas and creative solutions! I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max for video with the Rode VideoMic Me-L for selfie vids and close up videos on rear camera. Since there was not a lot of reviews on the new blink 500 pro and I didn’t want to wait on shipping I recently picked up the Rode Wireless Go, the Sc7 adapter, the 3.5mm adapter, and a Shure MVL lav. It was so simple to get up and running. Tho gets expensive. 199, 15, 9, 70 respectively. I was wondering if the wired lav like the mvl matters when just using with that equip and stock camera app, should I get that Diety Lav instead? I was also going to try this system with my pc, is there any audio software you would use to calibrate the lav for smartphone and pc use? Thank you again!

While I don't have experience with the MVL lav, I'm sure it'll sound pretty decent and maybe you don't need to necessarily jump up to a Deity Lav. As for running the RODE GO with lav into your PC. I've done this for my desk top by simply plugging into the Mic Jack with the red 3.5mm cable that comes with the RODE. If you are on a laptop you'll need to use that Sc7 adapter as more laptops now have the combo jack. In terms calibrating it with the computer, simply just go to your normal sound control area where you can select audio source and look at the "Mic" or "External Mic" sound bar. Talk into it and adjust your levels on the RODE or PC to make sure its not clipping at the top. Smartphones are all of the place, some will control your mic automatically, others may let you set your gain level and have that sound bar there for you for reference. So it really just depends, theres no one solution for everything, but the basic principles of calibration is pretty straight forward and standard with a soundbar as your guide. Hope this helps! @@TLDR_filmmaker I ended up having to get a SC3 adapter for the Shure MVL... since the end was a TRRS and had to convert to TRS for the transmitter to detect a mic in the Rode. Love the ease of use from the Blink 500 B3 - receiver plugs straight into lightning port on iPhone. The transmitter sorta sucks like you said (I think) where the lav mic if equipped points out the side. So I’m waiting on the Blink 500 Pro B1 now lol. Is there an adapter to get the Pro receiver to mount on a cold shoe? (Love how the Rode receiver has that clip that works)

Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! 1) This video is a bit old and the reviewed audio kits in the video did not have internal recording, so thus why I didn't talk about that. All my videos that have covered internal recording capable units I have talked about how easy it is to export. 2) All current internal recording capable audio kits do not have back up of the internal recording. The internal recording serves as a backup to your cameras own audio recording from the wireless audio kits Receiver 3) Sort of related to concern #4. It's not that easy in general to turn these things off in your pocket because the button placements are not on the front flat side by design. They are on the sides of the unit so that if you were to bend down with the Transmitter in your pocket, your body wouldn't be able to press onto the transmitter. Also a lot of these systems require you to hold down the power button for a couple seconds before it actually turns off; a safety measure by design. 4) Generally speaking if you are going to wire someone up, its a good practice to just clip the transmitter onto the persons pants or belt loop. If they are bing super active in which you want to put the transmitter into their pocket, I'd advice against this as you risk breaking the lavalier mics plug point. If they are not being too active but you just want the transmitter not on the rim of the pants. I would suggest to not toss the Transmitter into the pocket, but rather you just clip it to the rim of the pocket with the transmitter safely inside the pocket. This way your Mic plug won't get damaged as easily. That being said I have indeed just slipped my transmitter either in my pants pocket or jacket pocket before to get some audio. But I am standing or just walking around and not doing crazy large movements. The mic stayed in place and I was never in any danger of accidentally turn off the units. Hope this makes sense why I didn't talk about the topics you wanted covered, in general #3-4 aren't really concerns because of design. So far, the Tascam DR-10L did an awesome job, but I would love to have something I can directly record into the video, since that would reduce my post 'production' time a lot. Speakers can do a lot of crazy things when they present and are nervous because of speaking in front of an audience, ... this is why I like to put the recorder into their pockets. But maybe with a wireless transmitter this is not a good idea anyway, and I will adopt that practice. Haven't decided yet what to buy, so I will watch some more or your videos. Nice review Jason. I always watch your videos. I also notice drop outs with my 2 rode go when used with 2 speakers close together. In your video you show that the saramonic also drop outs when you held it together starting at 7:08 mark. How bad is it compared with rode go? Is this also a con for you? One would purchase this to be used together but if its bad then it might be a deal breaker. My thinking is if 2.4ghz would interfere how about pairing one set of rode go and a UHF one like the sokani or feidu fm40 maybe it would allow the 2.4 to work more cleanly beside one in UHD freq? I'm assuming you most likely won't have two people sitting so close to each other that their transmitters are actually touching. The RODE go had the most problems because of having two TX going to two RX. Where as the Blink500 Pro only has one RX. Its probably the safest to use one 2.4ghz and one UHF. However if you haven't seen the Comica Boom XU system I tested, it may be the better bet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWfXdXt9isdmnJo I perform the same type of stress test for drop out when two TX's are super close to each other. Though having tested multiple systems outdoors, some with or without the lavs. The results are also typically similar and I don't notice a drastic difference to distance between using the lav or not.

However since you are doing online instruction videos, I'm not sure if you came across this other video I did where I helped people set up their online systems for teaching last year: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHvVfIxnZdWcrLc You don't necessarily have to go with the headset mic I used for this setup, you can still use these wireless systems too, you just need to buy the XLR to 3.5mm adaptor to connect it. Great Vid! Just ordered this set. I currently have a Sony Dual Channel expensive setup with the SMAD3 adapter (For Weddings) so the audio goes right into my Sony MI hot shoe with no wires. The problem with that setup is that I can't use that with my top handle at the same time and I have to move my Ninja V to my handle grip as well because the Sony Setup for the MI shoe is dedicated for the top center of the cam. I have been looking for another dual audio set for smaller projects like YT Vids like the Picomic, but after Seeing your vid on the quality of the noise floor which was a tremendous help to me, I decided against that 😢. Now that I have purchased this set I'm immediately thinking about alternate Lavs that I could use with something like the invisiLav. Any Suggestions?

I'm not sure which video you saw on the Picomic as they have updated their firmware since my initial review that has really changed and cleaned up the audio more than before. The only problem is that Picomic are constantly backordered, so its hard to snag one. As far as alternative lavs, I don't really have a set of lavs to recommend. The most quality one I have is the Deity w.lav, but that may not be what you're looking for. @Curtis Judd has a great video about the lavs he has and uses as well as many reviews on various types. Hey hey Michael! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! One thing to keep in mind is that both of these systems are different in terms of their frequency. Because the two systems are not identical in frequency use, this won't really be a apples to apples comparison. For me, the major difference to consider between the two is signal range. The Uwmic9 will be more robust and won't cut out as easily where as the Saramonic 2.4ghz can be different depending on the area you're in with wifi networks. That being said. In terms of sound, my uwmic9 review sample may be outdated as mine is Version 1. I am aware that there are newer versions as mine is 5 years old. To me it was extremely bassy. So in my experience with the model I have, the Blink500 Pro sounds better. In short, in my opinion, if you are really considering these two different systems as your prim choices. The sound quality should not be your main concern, it is how good is the distance and battery life going to be for your needs. Because thats what these difference in frequency will bring to your overall experience. Thats the basic break down between the two, moving forward you will want to always consider what frequency you are considering. And of course, make sure the UHF 500mhz frequency is legal in your are if you're outside of the united states. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! What might be a problem is the students with their smartphones and laptops. Do you think that some 10-20 wifi devices in a room of 50 square meters will break it? (I could still disable the 2.4 wifi network and let them use 5GHz networks but that is kind of a resort that I would not be happy with...)

Hmm... I honestly could not tell you if that would be a make or break point as I simply am not able to simulate where the breaking point is for these wireless mic systems. However now that you are mentioning your use case. I'm not sure how many hours you will be going for when teaching, but perhaps the Uwmic9 would be better suited because of how fast you can swap out rechargeable AA batteries in the case you need to extended use or if you simply forgot to recharge your Blink500 Pro. I would personally attempt this route because of the Wifi in the room and the ability to have immediate recharge of batteries if for some reason I run out of power.

Thank you for this video, it was very helpful and I went and bought the Blink 500 Pro B2 set. I have a separate question... I'm trying to record videos using the Camera MX app. If I stop the video after 40 mins the file is just 27 mins long, if I stop the video after 32 mins the file is just 12 mins long. It's the strangest thing... When I check the screen the record sign is up and the clock is still running but when I press stop it the video file is just a tiny percentage of what I thought I recorded. I have about 40GBs free on my phone and a good processor. I've recorded 45 min videos before, but only with the shitty camera that comes with the phone and isn't suitable to use with an external microphone. I'm stumped! So I'm wondering are there any camera apps that you would recommend for using with the Blink 500 Pro? Thanks!

As for video apps, the one that is the most popular for mobile phones is "Filmic Pro". This was made very popular because it gives you all the same settings of a traditional camera so that you can manually set exposure to get the video look. Hello, Thank you for the great review. I just received my Saramonic Blink 500 Pro B2. I am loving it, easy to use and the sound quality is excellent. I have a question on the (Stereo vs Mono) modes. When I put the Rx in stereo, microphone A from the Tx will sound on one side (speaker), while if it is in Mono the same microphone will sound on both speakers. What is the application for that? Say one person is a loud talker, the other isn't. You can go into editing and raise the soft talkers audio so that both speakers can be heard in the final video. I used it for my bottom line section in my "hollyland Mars 400s pro" videos. I have not experienced drop outs in these scenarios however it really will be dependent on how WIFI heavy your areas are. If we're talking major professional settings with a budget, then no, you'll want to get more workhorse systems that are tried and true. These are Budget systems for people that just need something decent to work with. The most reliable professional system is the workhorse Sennheiser G3 or G4 series. 2.4ghz systems are nice and cheaper to make, but they have their own problems because of the frequency. Using more traditional UHF systems like the Sennheiser where voice is not processed like the budget UHF systems is what you would want to use in a more professional setting. Hope this helps! Rode has a very specific sound thats more flat in response than how Saramonic does their sound. Saramonic usually has more bass response. But in the end if you wanted to EQ them both, you can get them to sound very similar. Between the two it becomes a question of what are you using it for, if you are filming yourself with it or are you just using it to capture audio only. If it is the later, going wired only has it's benefits of not needing additional battery and charging and the chance of potential RF interference in a heavy Wifi area. Hope this helps! If you are only using one transmitter, you need to make sure your receiver is set to "mono" so that audio is coming out of both channel. Hey hey again LegendaryOn99! No, this Blink 500 pro when it came out was before RODE released their 2nd version that had internal recording. These will be fine for a sit down interview, no problem. Yes, those settings are a good starting point to see how loud your speaker is. On the A7iii you can go all the way up to +7 if you'd like. I move between +3 and +7 if needed without too much self noise.

I found that there is also a Saramonic Blink 500 Pro B2 (Lite Edition) which is around $67 cheaper than the normal Blink 500 Pro B2 in my country. The only difference is that the Receiver in Lite Edition does not have a display screen on it (the transmitters have the displays). Do you know if there are any other difference? Do you think it is a big loss without the display screen on the Receiver? The price diff. of $67 seems like pretty good deal!

Unfortunately, probably not, mainly because I don't have these recorders, and I'm not too sure that recorders sound quality from recent generations are all that different, especially with 32bit float becoming more accessible. If I were to start reviewing recorders, instead of testing them with great microphones, I would actually test them with bad microphones to see how they handle a low output signal. But as I said, when it comes to recent recorders from the last 3 years or so, they are seem to perform and sound great.

frequencies law is very very big. But I saw that others UHF mics is ok in my country, then I think the Comics is ok too. I live next of 10 or more TV and radio antennas. And in my house, the Comica don't have (much) problems with interferrences. But I recorded a wedding very away of the city. The place was 1 hour of distance. And the comica droped a lot I used the receiver with the antenna's raised upwards and the transmitter downwards. Stay safe too

Nice review! If I specifically want a dual wireless lav mic system, this Saramonic model would be my choice over 2 separate Rode Wireless Go units. But if only needing a single wireless lav system, I prefer my Rode Wireless Go for the smaller size. By the way, after doing some long video projects, I realized that my Rode Wireless Go does *not* accept any charging via an external battery pack while the mic is actively being used. This is true for both the receiver and transmitter on the Rode Wireless Go. Is this also true for your Rode unit as well? So that meant after filming for more than a few hours, I literally had to take a break to allow the Rode Wireless Go transmitter and receiver to be charged up for awhile before being able to continue filming again. So if the Saramonic unit is able to receive a charge while also being used for recording at the same time, that's def a bonus. EDIT: By the way, I purchased this Saramonic dual wireless lav system over a year ago for $400 but wish I had never done so, it's way too large for my needs. My RODE wireless go's are able to charge and be used at the same time, thats odd that yours is have troubles with it. Are you using the included RODE USB-C cables or a different one? Sometimes different USB cables are funky in terms of its power or data delivery. Pretty much all, including this Saramonic, is capable of USB charge and use these days, ever since the RODE GO first did it two years ago. I have the older Saramonic Dual UHF system as well, definitely chunky and a little outdated these days. But for what it is, I hope these budget companies start looking into creating wireless systems that can run off of a single AA battery while decreasing in size. I get that built-in batteries help with reducing size, but if they want to really win the market. They need to start thinking of quick replaceable common batteries. So far the Feidu FM50 is attempting this, but the LiPo battery they are using is not common. I think we can all agree that a AA battery or the Zoom F2 use of two AAA batteries is not that large and we'd gladly use something like that instead of tradition two AA packs. I was really getting frustrated cuz I had switched to different USB cables to no avail. Plus even used different powered 5,000 to 10,000 to 20,000 mAh battery packs...also to no avail. It didn't occur to me to use the original Rode cables cuz I had stored those in a carry case. Great, I'm happy now! That was worth the price of admission for pressing the Like and Subscribe button to your channel! As for your other comment, yes I agree that companies need to make battery life longer and with smaller cells, plus offer more versatility too. For example, my Rode VideoMic Pro Plus shotgun mic offers power versatility for its built-in rechargeable battery that lasts MANY hours, plus I can also swap out the lithium battery from the battery compartment and insert 2 AA batteries if I want too. That type of versatility is why I paid $300 for the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus mic...well, plus the other advanced features too, LOL! Keep up the great reviews my friend!

You're most welcome! These are two different systems and you will need to make sure your country (if you're not in the USA) allows for the use of 500mhz to be used. Both noise is acceptable, neither one is drastically different from the other. I only do the -12dB calibration to even out the playing field, but if you were to calibrate it to your voice, you would have much lower noise than the -12db calbrated test that I show.

The settings of which I tested this system is around 10+ wifi networks with my laptop and smartphone nearby adding to the 10. It's a little hard to really select a wifi interference test as its constantly change unless I was able to find a 2.4ghz signal generator or sorts and have them running a stress test. That would really be something haha. But for now, thats all I can do as I don't live next to a place with 50+ wifi signals. The Zoom F2 and Tentacle have me very intrigued, but I do not have a use for them at this time, so I won't be purchasing them anytime soon unless they contact me to test it. For me I can see myself getting a lot of them for narrative films. That 32bit float changes everything, pair that up with a boom operator and I'd be set for the types of film shoots I'm on! Hey hey Our Fantasy Life! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This is really completely dependent on the filming situation. If you're outdoors like I show in my tests, there are limitations base on your location (City street versus an open park) and how far you are away from the receiver. If you are indoors, then it could depend on how many wifi signals are around you (Home vs Apartment building). Because all of these are 2.4ghz systems, these are the things you have to consider when using it in a professional setting. I personally have not had problems with any 2.4ghz settings because the sound operator is always very close by in clear line of sight so that the signal is always strong. For me I've never had my sound operator or receiver anywhere near the max distance range. That being said, a strong UHF system is still the preferred method for most professional jobs, there are cheap ones and expensive ones. Expensive ones are worth it for pro jobs. Otherwise the new RODE GO II with its internal recording allows you to save moments where a random signal loss occurs, and thus is my current recommendation for anyone looking to use a 2.4ghz system. That internal safety recording fixes a lot of concerns in my opinion. This would be a great for streaming at a guest location where we can plug into someone's existing mixer on one transmitter, and maybe a shotgun on the other transmitter.. Already using a laptop and a LTE hotspot to stream now. Living in Hawaii, we do have a lot of events on other islands when visiting other churches, so having a portable streaming setup for live events has been on my mind, once travel opens up.

The Rode Wireless GO II came out recently and I think the only thing it still has over the Saramonic Blink500 Pro is range/reliability, and now you can get a kit with receiver+2 transmitters for about the same price, but yeah, it still doesn't include cables, lavs, wind muffs nor case. Another thing I like about the Saramonic mics are that they made an accessory that can turn it into a handheld mic that is also a charger. When you put a regular mic windscreen and a mic flag on it, it looks indistinguishable from a regular handheld mic. Maybe $60 for it is a bit much for what it does, but for one, Rode doesn't have that, and for two, anyone could manufacture their own version, so who knows, maybe we'll see a third party version in the future. EDIT: Oop, just as I was browsing Amazon I came across a mic handle for the Rode Wireless Go, made by SmallRig. Differences are that it is much less expensive, and it extends a bit, but it doesn't charge, and definitely doesn't look as good. I also just found out the holder for the Saramonic mic comes with the foam wind screen.

Hi, bought Blink500 Pro B2 after watched this video. Thanks. One question - there are no sound (and no waveform on the OLED) when I plugged in the supplied Lav mic (the TX set to Line in input). Same issue on both TX and lav mics. Any idea why? The TX’s built in mic worked perfectly. Update: Checked with Saramonic support - when use lav mic the transmitter must put to Mic In and not Line In.

Funny.... the saramonic drops audio every time ti walks outside and turns around (5:45). This is an issue for any professional recorder. Body blocking is an issue when you turn. This means that as you film moving around the subject, this will be an issue. Too bad that you cannot rely on this system for outdoor moving dialog.

Generally speaking these systems are good up to about 20ft in the wide open outdoors. If there were buildings nearby or on a sidewalk, its a different story. This test is to give you an idea of the worst situation. That being said these systems are so small today, its not as big of a deal to hide it on the front side of the person depending on the setup. But yes, if your work needs good signal at all given times. RODE mics are susceptible to interference from nearby electronics including themselves. I have to separate the RX units by a foot or more when multiple units are in use. What about the Saramonic?

That is definitely correct, in my RODE GO 2 review I test two RX units close and far apart in my outdoor stress test, definitely want to keep them apart if possible. I'm not sure why it is this way, but I have a feeling all 2.4ghz will suffer from this in some ways when both RX's are close together. Although I have not had problems with the RODE GO II where it lost signal from other electronics. That being said, RODE implementing the internal recording feature helps mitigate this problem a little bit. I can't speak specifically on the Saramonic Blink500 Pro as I don't have two units to try it. But I feel it should exhibit the same problem as well because I once tried to do a distance shoot out where I had two competing brands clipped to my shirt and the receivers at the camera. They both started interfering with each other and I got horrible distance results. I feel the only way these cheaper 2.4ghz systems can negate these problems is if you can lock them into a specific frequency range instead of constantly scanning the frequency and hopping frequencies on the fly. Picomic does this where you can lock them into even or odd number frequencies between units so that they don't get in each others way. Thanks again for stopping by! If this really works through walls then this is a go. I've tried the synco and it cuts in and out in the same room if the person turns around. I DO still love the audio gain of the hollyland mics though. I wonder if they work through walls (and human bodies) as well?

All the 2.4ghz systems Ive tested were able to work inside a house with wooden walls (key point). Concrete walls may do something different when you're in or out of the room. But for the most part, wood walls are fine with these systems as they work just like a wifi router signal that can go through walls. Thanks again for stopping by! They have a few more settings. For instance, you can specify the mic gain manually. They also seem to be a little smaller and have a longer battery life. The case is a nice addition too. The only thing the BoomX-U has going for it is the - in my opinion - better looks and range; UHF tends to offer higher quality audio at greater distances.

I choose the Saramonic Blink500 Pro. The BoomXD has a Lowcut filter you can't turn off. The Saramonic has a more fuller sound. The built in mic is actually quite good on its own if you don't want to use the lav.

I've got a project coming up next year. I hope the Blink500 Pro makes it to the European market before then. The extra cost of ~50€ over the BoomX-D seems worth it.

Hey hey Mike! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Because the two systems are not identical in frequency use, this won't really be a apples to apples comparison. For me, the major difference to consider between the two is signal range. The BoomXU is very robust where as the Saramonic 2.4ghz can be different depending on the area you're in with wifi networks. That being said. Blink500 Pro sounds the best, perfect for videos where you are generally in close proximity, but can do fine in longer ranges if there is not a crazy amount of wifi around. Boom XU I would choose for more sound critical work like narrative films and events where you NEED to get that audio. Even though it does not beat out the Blink500 Pro in battery life or overall sound quality (still decent audio if you haven't seen my review here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWfXdXt9isdmnJo ). The more robust signal is where it excels and will work best for these purposes. Thats the basic break down between the two, moving forward you will want to always consider what frequency you are considering. And of course, make sure the UHF 500mhz frequency is legal in your are if you're outside of the united states. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! @@TLDR_filmmaker Have you actually tested the Boom X-U with the same mics as the other systems? Because you used the native lavaliers to test their sound and I don't expect them to be very good. Also in davinci resolve I can quickly apply an EQ to a flat response like the comica, so I am thinking I prefer that to the already pretty low-boosted rodes

Hey hey Daniel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Hmm... it may mean the battery cell never quite hits the top voltage that it needs to register as a full battery. If you are able to get close to my battery life test results even with that last charge light blinking, then I wouldn't worry about it too much as it could just mean the calibration of the BMC (Battery management chip) could be off. Hey hey Nicholas! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! 2.4ghz frequencies are much shorter compared to a 500mhz frequency. So essentially it has a harder time transmitting its signal through my body. And because I am in the worst possible situation (out in the open field) the frequency has no way to reflect off of anything to eventually bounce its way back to the Receiver. This is why it cuts out in that specific situation vs indoors where I can move all around through walls and you'll still hear me until there are too many walls. Thanks again for stopping by! I honestly don't really do latency testing unless I look back at my talking head portion, where its just the bare audio going into my camera, and it shows me a very noticeable amount of latency. When the Deity Connect came out having up to 16ms latency it was noticeable but only after someone made mention to it, I'm not sure if they've improved the firmware to help with that since then. So for me 16ms is probably where I would make mention of it, anything less I don't think is as big of a deal for the normal non-filmmaker person watching your video. Thanks again for stopping by! Also, I tried two RodeWirelessGo next to each other with two people talking, the signal constantly broke and I lost audio. It was terrible. I’m hoping this is more reliable. I want that Lark150, but man, do I hate the battery life on those. I wish it lasted a few hours longer. It seems promising.

I think it would have been even better to mention the fact that the case doubles as a charging hub for the 2 TX and 1 RX but also as a syncing hub to well.. sync the transmitters. You'll just need two cameras for each receiver or a 4ch field recorder. That being said I do not have access to two units to test how well they run in vicinity with each other, so your performance may vary. Yes, with the original Blink 500 (non-pro version) you could purchase another receiver and turn your B2 set into two B1 sets.
