Can you please make a video addressing thunderbolts, and HDMIs on M1Max, M2 generation, and how it plays with monitors that support KVM & PBP. Like, I don’t even know if it’s ideal grab the 2021 speccedout mbp16 m1max from bh photo right now considering it’s hdmi 2.0. I use both windows(solidworks, Thinkpad) and Mac at the same time and would love to just then later get a 120hz monitor that can do KVM,PBP or dock both workstations.

App store shows latest version of pages without any option to update (from 12.1) I'm running Big Sur on 2013 MacBook pro - wondering if that is the reason
@macmost Жыл бұрын
Yes. If you look in the Mac App Store page for "Compatibility" and reveal the details, it shows what any app requires. In this case, macOS 12.3 (Big Sur is macOS 11.X).

Also, great videos. I’m pretty much the same with extremely leveraging all power user features. There’s currently no good video that addresses the hdmi fiasco with this level of context considering everything has gone usbc and thunderbolt. Typical video explainers don’t cut it when you are trying to looking for simplification with workstations that are pro level rather than just being satisfied with typical 60w PD kind of docks and monitors and stuff.

Thank you for the video! How about creating svg's with keynote? Is it possible? I normally create images with KN and export them to png copying them and using CMD+N in Preview, but, for me it would be very useful to create svg's. ;)

No, there's no way to export from Keynote as SVG.

If I’ve got 1000’s of SVG files, what would be the best way to organize them?
@macmost9 ай бұрын
Up to you and what they are. Some sort of clipart collection? I suppose if it were me I'd put them all in a folder inside subfolders by subject. But it really depends on how I'd use them.

It's a step in the right direction, but I really don't understand why Pages handles groups like this… When having, for example, two squares that you have grouped, you can't change the fill color or any other property of both squares without ungrouping them or selecting them both inside the group. And with this SVG support, it really is a mess when it is composed of several shapes, even when they are supposed to be part of the same object. And yet, some of Pages' own default shapes are composed of several "sub shapes" (like the car with wheels separated from the body) while being modifiable entirely without ungrouping.
@macmost4 ай бұрын
That's just the way it works. The "Group" doesn't have a fill color. The objects inside the group do.
@captainviggo45754 ай бұрын
@@macmost I understand the logic, it's just not very useful nor efficient in a workflow. Selecting a group in most layout or graphic creation software does not make the appearance properties disappear. It shows, for example, a fill colour if all objects inside the group have the same one, or shows a "mixed appearance" mention if the objects are different, letting the user change them all in one click if they want. Yet, Pages does exactly that for a text bloc containing multiple text styles. It displays "multiple", and if you want, you can change all the text to one style without having to select the individual styles inside the box. I really hope they will eventually change the group behaviour to match that. There is nothing useful in not displaying the "Style" and "Text" settings for a group of objects, and having the user with no other choice than to ungroup, change the objects, then regroup them.

How would you be able to manipulate that New Zealand map?
@macmost Жыл бұрын
I suppose you could import it into a vector editing app, remove anything but standard elements, and then import into Pages. Would take some experimentation and patience though. Probably help to have a lot of experience with vector graphics too.
@weinbergfahrer4048 Жыл бұрын
Depends on what kind of edit you would want to perform. Since SVG is a type of XML, it can be edited in in any text editor, e.g. to add or make changes to the text labels. To make changes e.g. to the coastline of the NZ map, you would use programs like Inkscape or Affinity Designer.

It's a shame Apple doesn't allow exporting SVG files from any Mac app
@peterbreis5407 Жыл бұрын
Apple giveth and Apple taketh away. Preview now won't work with .svg or .eps. My workflow is built around .pdfs. If Apple now let's Pages open .svg why doesn't Preview? and why can't I convert .pdfs into Shapes? Why won't Freeform accept vector shapes from Pages without converting them to bit maps? Apple's programmers don't seem to talk to each other or share libraries. Some are even trashing the work of previous programmers.
@macmost Жыл бұрын
You'll need to ask Apple if you want the answer to Why questions. I don't think Preview ever supported SVG, but maybe it will in the future. I suspect that you can't convert PDF into Shapes because 99%+ of PDF files out there wouldn't work as they would be text-like documents. SVG is often used for clipart, but PDF is usually used for digital documents. I suspect that Freeform will get this SVG functionality soon.
