I'm a marketer for a music manufacturing company (records, CDs, merch, etc) and the issue i have with trending audio is our posts are often showing a specific release. So if for example, we're posting about a Peter Gabriel record we made, we can't use trending audio, we have to use that music. It kind of goes against how they want you to post original content, original audio, but then you are encouraged to use trending audio. But, i do use lots of carousels and they are fun to make.

Hey Paul, totally get it. They've always wanted us to use their audio library (anything else gets taken down anyway), and the trending audio was something TikTok did that they leveraged, my guess was to appease the labels. You can use any song from their library in your promotional posts, it just won't benefit from the additional reach via trending audio. Hopefully that's something they change moving forward - C

I’m a small, newer content creator who has had very low reach and found it extremely hard to grow over the last year. When they did the last algorithm change my reach out of nowhere went up and I have 2 viral posts now hitting 2M & 1M views. Now since this last algorithm update, my reach is back down to literally only a few thousand views again. This update is horrible and new content creators have literally no chance, or just glimpses of it.

Carousels are my bread and butter as a fashion creator so this is exciting. Only thing I don't like is trending audios get more reach technically because I'm also a music creator and I don't like using music that everyone else does. I want the song on my carousels to help tell the story of my pictures

Love to hear that. We actually agree - we'd rather be more creative and use songs that fit the vibe of the slides. Hopefully they'll adjust that moving forward, but my guess is the labels make too much $ from the music being pushed that it's unlikely to change any time soon - C

5:12 Carousel posts get 114% more engagement than a static image post, but they take way more than 1.14 times as long to produce. So if you're someone who doesn't have the entire work day to devote to posting, single image posts can still provide a fantastic return on effort!

For sure! I'd argue that with Canva's bulk creation tool, along with just a collection of photos and videos that you'd already have good to go, it shouldn't take long at all to post a carousel. Don't overthink it - it's just content, do your best, take the learnings and onto the next! - C

Please help me understand the difference between multiple pics within a posts, carousels, and a reel with multiple pics with video. I'm trying so hard to figure out the purpose of the carousels. How is it so different?

Hi! For sure - a carousel is a post (that can be 1:1, 9:16 or 4:5) with up to 20 "slides", and a slide can be an image, video or graphic. A Reel is a vertical-only (9:16) video post that can consist of one video, a series of video clips edited together (either inside the IG app or externally), or a slideshow of pictures. The purpose of carousels is just another way to present your content in a way that isn't necessarily video, so that people can take in the info slowly and more deliberately. From what I saw, only carousels with still images are shared on the reels tab and not carousels that include videos… Do you think that it will change soon ?

Hey Denis, we haven't seen IG specifically mentioning that carousels with videos don't get shared on the Reels tab and we haven't seen it personally as yet - however that sounds like it could totally be a thing. If I would guess, I'd say they'll change it for sure. It makes no sense to exclude content types within a carousel. They want to encourage us all to post more of them and if they penalize carousels with videos, that goes against their goals - C

Hi, it seems Meta's new AI content moderation has been out of control lately, lots of banned accounts and content for no good reason. You should be able to request a review of any content taken down, so just do that and sit tight, not much else you can do - C

Can you tell me how to get green tick on the option with recommended status? And the strike will be lifted on the same date on which it came but something can be done about the recommendation.

Instagram needs to add audio adjustments for carousel posts like the adjustment available for reels. I agree that a combination of photos and videos is more engaging, but why does it need to mute video audio as a default?

Same exact thought we had! We post a lot of the spoken video carousels like this for example: instagram.com/p/C-JFbJ1P4wQ/?img_index=3 and would love it if we could have just put music underneath it. I wouldn't be surprised if they add that feature overtime. - T

hi l was gonna ask l was getting lots of views and one day l post some reel and l put back in archive and put back in profile few times and suddenly after doing that my reels views crash down .Soo what should l do to fix it

Interesting. I haven't heard of anyone doing that and noticing a drop in reach/views. Best bet is to apply all of the tips we drop in our videos - post consistently, proactive daily engagement, etc etc - C

The carousel post will come up in the Reels tab along with other Reels, due to the music being added. It's a new feature IG rolled out to expand the reach of carousels - C

Hi, it depends how you approach your content. You'd have to dig around the trending audio to see if there's anything that fits your vibe, and if not then keep doing what you're doing, it'd just mean you may not be able to take advantage of the new change - C

I say this humbly, but I have to accept that I am TikTok famous. I have built my platform around comedy skits that are 1 to 3 minutes long. I usually just repost to Instagram in Facebook as reels and I have not done any other form of content. Should I consider breaking up my reels into shorter segments and then posting those as carousels or is that even possible? thanks.

Congrats on the success! Yes I'd definitely suggest cutting up the videos into shorter ones for Instagram, or even trying to chop a 3 min video into short ones as a carousel. Worth a shot! The only thing is you won't get the additional reach as a carousel due to no trending audio (or it'd remove your comedy audio), so perhaps a reel is your best bet. - C
