Kjun is being EXTREMELY smart here, in my opinion...not only he's asking questions and engaging with future players, it's also educating them on how game developement works, and makes sure to be very straightforward in explaining that if you want X it will affect Y, and will result in Z. Because most players don't know how games actually work, and many fail to understand that yes, we have powerful machines in our hands at this time but they still can't handle EVERYTHING at once. Sadly it's one of the reasons why I think Life By You was ultimately cancelled... people expected too much.
@saulghim26614 ай бұрын
You're right, I absolutely love the fact that he's transparent about the realities and costs of implementing the things the players want. Or teaching them axioms of game development, and why some things that players might think they want, might not actually be what it seems. Hopefully people recognize that, and when they don't always get what they want, results in acceptance and understanding. A reciprocated transparency and respect will go a long way, and hopefully encourage the devs to stay this way.

However the problem i hawe is not the entire floor structure, but the possibility to add in towers, i hawe no problem whatsoever doing in full sandbox games like CoE or the Bethesda games by using TES (it must not be in real time whan the base game is running if one think about it, beside those who does affect the carracters daily life like in the sims, which obviously need to, but major superstructures does not nessesary need to be i think) on my computer, but i imagine it may be on console.

@@kennaelpis I ment no actual offense by thet Your criticism is valid, i think 4, 6 or 8 floors will do, at least for me, but honestly based on my own experience i think those things are also related to how the program code or scripts are done, i seen in other games that if we set the same limit of maximum polygons, if there is certan types of flaws it may cause A memory issues which will significaly slow down the wole process and also may cause instability and crashes, B or may cause the processor to run very hot until it start to bottleneck (not as common but i seen it happen). If we compare the Betesda Creation Engine with UE5 is my practical experience that there seem to be significaly less such flaws in the UE engine which means it will also free up both of those if the settings wehre the same. One funny solution somebody suggested was bulk building blocks which serves just as a visual filler like LEGO so one can leave those 8 floors empty and the building floor used is the only one actualy populated. I don't know if that would work, but it could possibly be one way to go around it. I think a lot of the polygon issues will be "automaticaly" solved whan the models are finaly optimised, which means we are going to free up a lot more "computer power" in the final game when it release. It is fine by me if the base game is locked to those cubes it is in Sims4, just as long i can change those as i please within the set limitations of the maximum cube instead of a fixed one, Sims3 for example could do that. It is still possible to create giant redwood tress and things like that, the issue of cutting will only be seen whan one zoom out on the worldmap and if one are playing inside the loot cube they will just look like giant treetrunks in S4, so i think that will work fine. At least i would be totaly fine with that.

My worry is that inZOI is a sim creator simulator lacking gameplay the same way Sims4 is often called buildmode simulator becsuse thats where it excels while still lacking gameplay. Despite everything, gameplay should be #1 concern for a game.
@pinky_pepper5 ай бұрын
i have the same concerns about inzoi because when a game comes out and everyone's like "omg it's so pretty!!" chances are that the gameplay isn't actually that great and aesthetics are the only selling point. no man's sky being one example, altho i hear it's improved since release i feel unique gameplay is something a ts clone needs to succeed. obviously a ts clone improving on past ts titles with a massive jump like ts1 -> ts2 is unrealistic to expect especially of an indie dev but even a larger company considering how much work went into ts2. but if ts clones don't stray far away from usual sims gameplay, then there's not much to offer and people would just go back to old sims games for a ts4 alternative. changing up the formula is a huge risk though! so i'd get why that would be avoided. inzoi does change it up a lot, but i really don't like the focus on realism. like those days sound wayyy too long lol, i feel it would be boring. realistic stuff is charming, but imo the gameplay loop takes priority

Nah sims 4 was just a mess. It was planned to be a online game but was changed at the last min late in development. But instead of starting over from scratch, EA decided to just launch the game in it's unfinished statw. That's why sims 4 feels like it's lacking in gameplay. The game engine was designed for something else entirely so they can't code everything they would like to in the game.

Great video, one thing kept sticking in my head as I watched. You kept mentioning how the InZOI devs are listening to the audience and taking feedback directly is something you'd never seen much of before. I get that, a lot of companies don't. But it was funny to me because a game that sold 10m copies last year, Baldur's Gate 3, was heavily, and I do mean HEAVILY, reliant on early access feedback. So many changes were made to game design because of feedback they got directly from players, and indirectly through tracking what people did at certain parts of the game, how they interacted with it, what choices they made, etc. I'm glad to see the devs of InZOI are taking this route. Its something I hope a lot more developers start doing. I know early access is going to be incredibly important for InZOI.

It's really cool that they ask but I also hope they don't bite off more than they can chew. I would much rather have a sims alternative that's close to the real thing and not something incredibly detailed that they will have a harder time delivering. I also don't like the idea of super long days as a generational player. I want to play with a longer, more realistic lifespan (where the zois/sims live for more days) so having ~1 hour representing a day means it will take me like 40-50 hours for one generation from start to finish. Not to mention playing multiple households or save files... I just don't have that kind of time ; ;
@kyubuuu4 ай бұрын
@@halodeer absolutely agree! I think the 96 minutes is very long and would prefer that 1 day is maybe 30 minutes max. I think it would probably better to make longer and adjustable lifespans (so ppl who prefer a slower gameplay also have enough time) and also add options for fast traveling (like the Subway stations in TS3 that basically teleport your sim across your map). My worry is that if everything takes way to long and is to detailled (like the way to work) the game will get boring and maybe even furstrating quickly

I fear this initiative "Kjun's Concerns" will make the devs shoot themselves on the foot, people with absolutely no knowledge of game developing are asking for things incredibly hard to achieve or outright impossible, people will end up disappointed when their idea of what's better doesn't make it to the final game, either that or the devs will waste time and money trying to please everyone instead of focusing on making the game the best it can be.

This was interesting. Yes, please continue to cover the concerns aspect. As for my opinions, I think 4 levels to develop and furnish per lot would be plenty for me. I like the idea of a building appearing to have additional levels, so maybe a level skip or hidden room object could be made for those levels so they don't bog down the game? If a slider is available for adjusting the length of a day, that would be awesome. I'm an avid Sims 3 player (not doing the driving) and have dabbled in the early release of Big Ambitions (doing the driving) and have discovered that I DO NOT like to drive in the game. I would rather choose point A to point B and let the car go on its own. I also like the idea of "teleporting" using an underground subway system rabbithole type of situation. Maybe walk-in subways were you can find buskers, graffiti artists, and muggers, but once you are on the train, it teleports to your destination. I'm no expert at any of this, but maybe there could be an online shopping feature where modders can set up their own "shops?" Those who want a paywall could put in a link to their Patreon (or whatever) and just have some snapshots of their wares in the shop, while others could make use of Canvas (or whatever) and have the download links to the items in their shop? I think each creator having their own shop would help them get recognition for their work. Maybe even earn badges for having a certain number of visits from players to their shops. Just an idea - like I said I'm no expert and know nothing about what it would take to program such a thing.

As a builder, 4 to 5 floors (above ground and without a roof) is fine for a house IMO. That allows for everything from bungalows to mansions. Any higher and you're getting into flat/apartment territory but that depends on how they handle different lot types. I definitely wouldn't want a realtime clock based on the real world time. If you can only play at a certain time of day, you will always be stuck in that time. If it's a realtime clock independant of the real world, then it's better but they'd need to add enough activities to fill that time.

For the time question, I’d honestly like a sims-esque system where you could alternate between maybe 3 different time speeds: real life time (24 hr days) for those who want to just relax and enjoy the simulation; the normal 96 minute day for practical gameplay; and a really short (possibly half-hour) option for those who like speed-running.

Honestly , I feel like everyone except paralives is missing the mark. I’ve been playing the sims since I was in 5th grade . I’m 30 now , I own every expansion pack, stuff pack, etc from ‘The Sims’ to ‘Sims 4’ ; it was to the lore of the sims , the back story of the families, the drama that was left for the player to figure out . Sims 2 allowed for fans to age with families they grew to love from ‘The sims’ , Sims 3 took you to the past so you can see how it all started . The characters had distinct lives , personalities, family legacies and lineages , motives , even secrets . As a player , it really felt like you’re exploring the actual lives of the characters ; not just playing them . NOT SIMS 4 though ! They dropped the ball . But the current life simulators seem .. lifeless .

4 hours of gameplay to only go through 3 ingame days is awfully slow. I'd say one ingame day should last around one hour, maybe less otherwise it becomes tedious really fast once the "new-ness" of the game wears off. I think a good call would be to have around 2/3 presets we could choose in the options instead of a slider that would add too many variables. In regards to the car issue, I don't believe we need a manual mode per se, but maybe even with automatic driving they could add things to give us consequences and choose wisely whether we want to drive to work or take a bus/cab. Like there could be a driving skill and every time our Inzoi goes anywhere it goes up but the lower it is the more prone you are to either get in an accident like crash the car or hit someone. So you'd have to actually think if you want to take the risk and drive the car or not. Maybe they could have a "training" option on the car where the Zoi only goes around the block slowly to practice their driving and as the skill goes up the less risk there is for them to crash or hit someone. Just like the Zoi getting hit by a car, as you mentioned there could be varied degrees of hurt and there could even be a luck mechanic with like charms or something similar that would give you more or less luck when it comes to road accidents :D (Sorry for the long post)

When it comes to the game clock, I think I'd prefer a slower pace. Maybe an hour and a half is a bit too long, but maybe an hour per day. When I play the sims I often feel stressed and like I'm not able to do much fun stuff because fixing need decay takes the entire in game day. I would really prefer something a bit slower or need decay to be slower.

I will say my main concerns with inzoi at the moment is the inclusion of ai generated images and the lack of interaction with babies. Ai generation is very dicey so with its inclusion I'd really like to know what they are using for it, whether or not the model they used is trained ethically or if it's something like stable diffusion. I also think the ai gen wallpaper feature is poorly implemented. I'd rather be able to upload custom textures than have ai generate something that looks like shit anyway. As for babies, from what I've seen there is barely anything to do with them and that's really immersion breaking.

Yall modding content that is pretty much available to anyone who has bought the game. Who do you think you are making it seem like yall creating official content for the inzoi team. If yall wanna get paid, yall better expect it from the company itself, NOT the community. Instead of paywalling content, just have a kofi site. So people can give you TIPs for your nice work. Coming from a strategy game modding community, modders doing this on The Sims series, Skyrim, and now inZoi is completely baffling. Imagine DotA (Warcraft III) modders paywalling their mod, Counter Strike (Half Life) modders forcing Half Life players to pay them to download their game, or A Game of Thrones (Crusader Kings 2) modders locking the mod in Patreon.

@Manterok4 ай бұрын
At first thought, I was thinking having manual and automatic driving would be ideal, but if they're implementing car accidents, I think automatic driving would be better, because manual driving would result in too many accidents. Most people can't drive well in video games. With automatic driving they can use RNG to determine car accidents, which would make them more dynamic and less frequent so they don't become too repetitive.

There have been a few games from bigger companies that have been highly driven by tester's feedback. The biggest one of course being Fortnite, which was supposed to be a very different game. But also smaller games like Outer Wilds have become what they are because they were developed with a heavy focus on playtesting, instead of having a fixed static plan. But yes, it's the polar opposite of what Electronic Arts does. So it's refreshing in the life sim genre (if you can even call it a genre since there really only is The Sims honestly)
@TheDawnofVanlife5 ай бұрын
The Sims, while being unique in having a broader focus then many simulators, isn’t the only life sims, there’s the cheapo throw aways like Denizen and games like little sim world. Plus farming sims and mining sims which are still technically sandbox-style life sims. They usually just have a set theme such as mining or farming.
@martinsch5 ай бұрын
@@TheDawnofVanlife There is a large difference between The Sims and Stardew Valley. And while there are thousands of similar games to Stardew Valley, there are only very few games that play like The Sims, where you can create a family and build stuff while your characters age, die and new ones get born. Really, I don't know any other game that has the combination of features that defines the genre The Sims is in. There are slightly similar games, like The Guild which has the family management but without building stuff beyond placing complete building.

I feel like this game can benefit from having customizable world / server settings far beyond the time settings. Full disclosure, I was playing Conan Exiles right before watching this and thought about that when concerns of the varied player experience & expectations came up in regards to the mechanics in InZoi. As for driving, I think this feature should be a less restrictive fast travel system. Just ground vehicles in general. A tiered approach that goes like: Bikes: Anywhere but not places ment for cars or are pedestrian only. Slightly faster than walking. Motorcycles / Mopeds: Similar to cars but can travel to slightly more places not availible for cars. Fastest option. Buses: Travel to specific points on the map (bus stops) but can transport bikes too. Cheapest option. Subway: Similar to buses but bypasses traffic. Balanced option. Taxis: Go anywhere where cars are allowed for a price. Potentially most expensive. Cars: Same as above but you only pay for gas usage and personalization.

personally 90 minute days sound like they would get extremely tedious if you were playing one character for a long time, but could be fun if you had a whole family you were trying to play at once. if i only had like two hours to game before i had work or something i would find it really annoying to only be able to play less than two days. however if the game functions well on speed 2 then maybe the 90 minute days would be fine because fast forwarding during less exciting moments would make the days take less real life time.

The concept of custom day lengths is already very prevalent in gaming. Survival games like Ark or 7 days to die have those options where you can specify how many real life minutes to an in game day. Survival games also have motives etc… I’m sure similar programming can be applied to life sims. I guess we will see!

I'd make cars an option. For storytelling where I just need to get the Zoi somewhere quickly, I'd either teleport them or set the car to Autodrive. If it's a scene where I want control, because the driving IS the scene, then manually driving like in GTA would be the way to go. One of the biggest downsides to Sims is that it has always taken the laziest possible approach to driving.

I think 60-90 minutes a day is a good duration. I played stardew with my friends and in coop we can't pause the time. It took us 60 minutes-ish for a day and it's not even enough to do everything. Also we need to actually commute to the work place, if we use slider to make the time faster then the dev also need to make our walking pace faster. And that seems kinda hard since we need to still walk normally inside a building.
