New Isle of Man Ferry Terminal, FIRST Berthing, Pontoon & Passenger Access Testing.

Here is a bonus episode of my documentary of the new Isle of Man Terminal project by drone.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the first boat berthing and pontoon and passenger access testing today. Here is my video of the great progress!

Another cracking video Nick. I'm sure the Isle of Man government really appreciate all your hard work in bringing regular updates during construction. I'm sure everything will be ready for next weekend when the sailings are due to start from the new terminal. Really looking forward to seeing your first videos from inside the new terminal building and whole passenger experience. The level access boarding and new terminal facilities including baggage reclaim are much needed. Hopefully the new Manxman vessel will berth just as easily during the winter months.

Manxman is first expected to visit the new terminal for trials in April, provided everything runs to plan. The flagship’s first visit to the terminal in revenue operation is scheduled for November 2024.

Hello Mr Drone, Just gave your excellent video another watch. I can't wait to see the Manxman have a go at bething on a fast flooding tide in rough weather. What I did notice on this viewing, the pontoon was moving up and down as was the Cat in the slightly choppy Mersey, but at different levels. The linkspan overlap from the ferry sitting on the Pontoon did not look very much which might be a cause for concern. An excellent video. Thank you.

Great to see Manannan berthing for the first time. I'll be on there in May. I guess that was the job that got cancelled the other day because I heard the Isle of Man ferries were cancelled due to bad weather.

Hello Mr Drone, What an excellent video. The Frerry did exactly what I said it would do. It went slightly ahead of the beth whilst giving the dock wall a wide berth, then let the tide bring her back whilst using here Thrusters to slide her into position on the berth. This is the only way it can navigate this tight bert. Thank you for all your hard work keeping us all up to date with your great videos on the new IOM berth. Well Done

Its a cat. engine each back bow.thrusters on each front bow.There is no easier ship to dock.If its a null tide.it can come level,and straight in.They point a button or joystick and the computer does the rest.Even the computer will adjust for tide.Only problem when a glitch in earth rotation and this can alter your position on grid.I believe thats what happend to cruise liner in st martins.It was holding.And the computer moved the ship thinking it was out of holding grid reference.

The old terminal is located about a mile away near the Liver building.

It's a shame there's no room to offer a freight service, we're currently stuck with Heysham, forcing operators and end users to pay a premium.

I dont get this expense.I live liverpool.Never been IOM. Apart from TT, go there for what.terminal is not a easy place to get to.So i suppose it will be very expencive durring TT and also charging you to drop off like airport.I for one will never use it.And speeking to others.that have been IOM.They all have never been more than one time.And they dont plan ever going back.Even though new terminal.I dont know how fast this cat is.But they could not make seacat pay for itself on the channel.

I can't say much about the expense, but it will be better to work in. The old terminal is tired to put it in nice terms.

Old terminal was getting life expired and site needed for cruise terminal. This was the only suitable site offered by Peel. And new terminal more expensive than when first considered.

You don't get what expense? for the terminal build? It was definately needed, Pier head isn't fit for purpose anymore and anyway it was dual funded, benefits everyone. I'm from Liverpool, live here again now, i lived on the IoM for 10yrs & also contracted to the Steam Packet for a few yrs, so needless to say i've used them quite a bit. i can tell you they have been screaming out for a new terminal for a LONG TIME. The site isn't perfect by sny means n frieght was discussed, unfortunately couldn't make it happen straight away, discussions ongoing i believe... The prices have always been daft, ESPECIALLY TT, i went to 13 straight TT's & MGP's before i moved there and it was always silly expensive, even through the season outside of races, it's never been cheap. Jus the way it is, everythin is more expensive on the island too. lastly not only do they make money hand over fist from the seacats, they have for years with a bunch of Cats suche as Emeraude, SeaCat Denmark, Rapide, Snaefell, SuperSeaCat III, Viking & now Manannan. The real money is in the frieght with the Ben n now Manxman tho they still charge a preemium for foot psngers! 👍

The Isle of Man government paid for the build. It's a nice option to have in the city as well. I can imagine a lot of tourists using it and just because the likes of me and you might not use it doesn't mean it isn't worth having there.
