I was of the understanding that it is better to place the UV light after the filter as that way the filter has removed the large particulates and the UV rays aren't blocked by particles.
@TobiasHolenstein3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like it makes sense to me. I guess you would need like a canister filter or something like that to put the uv clarifier after the filtration

@stephdechatillon65913 жыл бұрын
The UV will definitely help, but there are also other aspects to consider : manually remove the debris, make sure you have enough flow (1/h the whole pond volume), decrease the number of fishes (max 1 or 2 fishes per m3 of water), well dimensionned mechanical and biological filtration. Thank you for sharing and all the best.
@yugandharbeesetty9053 жыл бұрын
Yes, UV clarifiers work. 7 days should be good enough to get the water crystal clear. If not, either the wattage of the lamp is not strong enough for the volume of the water and the amount of sunlight it receives. Or the filter itself is not that good. Because the UV kills the free-flowing algae and forms clumps of algae which will then be removed by the filter. If there is no good filter the UV alone is not going to help to achieve crystal clear water.

I have a question... what's the difference between a UV light and just regular old UV rays from the sun?
@TobiasHolenstein2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe! I don't know much about this, but from what I've seen online, there are 3 kinds of UV rays and most of the suns rays are UV A. I believe UV bulbs for ponds are UV C, which is a lot stronger than UV A and UV C can do things like eliminate bacteria and get rid of green water
@JoesCaribbeanVanLife2 жыл бұрын
@@TobiasHolenstein thanks, im trying to get clearer water; with the full on summer like sun here, green algae is hard to get rid off. have been researching uv lights but to be honest there aren't many plants in the water yet; so im going to get on planting it first before i try the lights since they require more electricity and here with the constant blackouts (plus that whole week without power because of hurricane fiona) i can't relly on that.

What is whater clarifier? Also how to get the pH down? My tank seems to have a mind of it's own. One day the water is crystal clear and the next day it develops a litte hue and gets worse over time and after a while very clear water again. I am guessing it's the pH fluctions but not sure what to do about that.
@chuckhaile535 Жыл бұрын
@@yugandharbeesetty905 UV clarifier uses UV light to kill the DNA of the algae which makes it die and is easy for the filter to clean it out it usually doesn't affect pH that's probably either from alkaline water from the tap or if you have any concrete or limestone in your pond it wraise your pH My pH is around 8.05 .. my koi fish.do well and it does fine water is clear I have the same size filter UV for a 2500 gal pond. In the middle of the summer if you put some shade cloth over top of your pond it will really reduce the green coloring
@chuckhaile535 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure pH only affects swimming pools because it affects the chlorine but in a fish pond that's not really a factor My pH is 8.5 coming out of the tap and when it gets into the pond it goes up to about 87 because there's some pieces of limestone in the gravel in my filter but the water I can get it clear down to 5 ft with a good UV filter like he has and if it gets really bad you can put shade cloth in out or reduce the algae the UV filter kills the DNA in the algae which makes it die it's in your filter can filter it out because it starts clumping
@bretthagon72863 жыл бұрын
Awsome video I would say there a few things leading to your water clarity not sure just algae there pine needles and leave that have blown in can't be helped but they will leach tanning into water that will make it brown and so will the wood if it is wood I see in there.and of course there is algae witch is because of being in sunlight but your uv should help with that but if it's not 100% clear and if that's what u want I would do a full water change and remove wood and leave ect and then keep netting out leave so they can't leach anything. But awesome video very interesting keep up the good work

So if you click on the Amazon page there are a few different options. The one that I have is the 55W, but there is also a 72W and a 110W. According to the amazon page it says the 55W is good for ponds up to 8800 gallons (which is funny because thats more than what it says for the 72W and the 110W). So it should be fine for your pond. Although it says it has a max flow rate of 5000 GPH. So as long as your pump isn't pumping more than that, it should be fine
