I just installed the new Danner 40 watt into my bowl of pea soup. After about 3 days I have the clearest water I have ever had. It is simply perfect.

I know, aren't UV lights amazing. Enjoy!

Also it is very important that your pump flow meets the specifics of your UV filter. If your pump has a higher flow rate than your UV filter requires the water and algae will not be under the light long enough to kill the algae. Again I have learned this the hard way.!!!

Yes, you are spot on with that!

Best tutorial ever on the uv clarifier installation thank you sir. Does the pond pump water pressure have to be considered for caution or is it just controlled by the valves adjustment-into the clarifier
@BackyardWaterGarden2 жыл бұрын
The flow rate through the UV light is controlled by the valves. In order for the light to be effective the water flow needed to be slowed down. This was accomplished by diverting some of the water through the light while the rest went directly to the waterfall unit.

Can you tell me a/b your water fall? It's fantastic.

I don’t see how your electric is supplied to the unit. Also does it have a ballast for the bulb? I used one that simply plugs it. I also set it up so I can take the bulb out to clean as needed. Also it’s recommended you replace after 8000 hr of usage. Definitely solves the algae problem. I like your waterfall !!

Thanks! The light is plugged into a standard 110 outlet. The ballast is located near the end of the plug. I know there are lights available that have a wiper on them to make cleaning the bulb easier, but where I live my pond only runs for about 5 months. I clean it every season and that seems to be well enough. My bulbs last me about 4 seasons before they need to be replaced.

How do you adjust flow rate for UV light?
@benisplayin Жыл бұрын
The inlet ball valve can be used to adjust the flow rate.

Hi If the manual (on my Hailea 36w) says nothing about inlet and outlet of the flow from the pump,will that mean it doesn't matter which one of the two connectors you going in with the water and out?
@BackyardWaterGarden2 жыл бұрын
From my experience the inlet and outlet of water flow is not important. What really matters is the amount of exposure the water has to the light.

Thanks for the reply! Good to hear since I'm all done mounting. First I thought I had a tanin problem since the water looks like tea.. Then I put a fine filterpad i my filtration system and later when I squesed it in a white bucket the water was dark-green! And that is free floating algees i gues.@@BackyardWaterGarden

2 questions. Is it necessary for the two pvc pipes coming from the main pipe and connecting to the pipe holding the light to be a certain length? And how did you cover up the whole installation? Thank you. Great video😃
@BackyardWaterGarden3 жыл бұрын
No, to be honest I don't know why I kept them so long. The important thing is to make sure you place valves in your system so you have complete control over the water flow. This way if you need to remove your light for any reason you can still keep your water feature running. Actually my installation is out in the open. It is just located behind my pond out of sight but easy to get to for maintenance. Another thing to keep in mind. Great questions and good luck with your project!

I'm a novice so bare with me if I install the uv light from my return water then into filter box how does it not kill my good bacteria on my foam pads? Help pleas
@BackyardWaterGarden2 жыл бұрын
The uv light only kills the bacteria and algae in the water that passes through it. The bacteria on your foam pads will not be affected. Hope this helps.

Is that wireless uv sterilizer? I dont see any power chord 😅

There is a wire. It is attached to the UV bulb. The wire comes out where I was doing the paper towel leak test. The wire can be easily hidden in mulch. Check out the hiding my UV light in plain sight video.

They will both Freeze. The PVC has a higher resistance to cracking in cold weather than ABS. I do not know if the black flex pipe is ABS or not. FYI only trying to help.

How did you measure the GPM through the UV light? If the water runs too fast it will not work effectively.

Thanks for your help, Jeff. My setup is different than yours. I have about 2,800-3,000 gallons with two 5,000 gph Aquascape pumps inside my skimmer basket. From the skimmer, there are two return lines that empty into the biofalls (about 50 feet away). I don't know where I can install the UV light(s) since I have all of my landscaping in place, including artificial turf on one side of the pond. Someone I ran into said he installed his UV lights in his biofalls. This would probably be the best location for my pond also. I didn't ask him how he installed it, but I assumed it was submerged. I can't find any UV lights that can be submerged. What brand UV lights do you recommend?
@BackyardWaterGarden6 жыл бұрын
Jeff Kramer The only submersible UV light I have seen is the pondmaster. You will need the 40 watt version in order for it to be effective for your size pond. Not sure if that will work for you or not.
@IFlyPGD6 жыл бұрын
That's good to hear. I hope I can install it inside my BioFalls, connected to the two intakes.

How long do you run the UV. Light for??i just installed one in my small 40gal guppy pond
@BackyardWaterGarden6 жыл бұрын
lizzy animatronic My UV light runs all the time. The only time I turn it off is when I shut off my pump and water isn't flowing through it. If you don't have water moving there is a chance the light will overheat and burn out. Hope it works out for you.
@edwardd86092 жыл бұрын
idk if anyone else commented, but this is installed backwards, so you're only sterilizing beneficial bacteria leeched from your filters. You're cleaning the water before it gets to the UV light by putting it after the filter in the system ... you need to put it before the filter for it to be most effective.
@BackyardWaterGarden2 жыл бұрын
I assure you the UV light is installed correctly. The filter pads only remove large debris and do nothing in the way of removing the free floating algae that turn your water green. The important thing is getting the flow rate correct so the light can do its job. If the water moves too fast through the light it will not be as effective. If you are tired of your water looking like pea soup, then a UV light is the answer.

If my flex pvc is buried 18inch under, it is difficult to put uv light horizontal at the same level as pipe. Can we put uv light above ground level right over pvc pipe?
@BackyardWaterGarden3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can place it above. The pressure from the pump will push the water through. Use valves similar to the ones I used in the video. It is a bit if trial and error until you get the flow rate adjusted correctly. Cheers!
