Thank you for another great walkabout! The street sign is not a mistake....it's thirty first street (the st is for first and the St is for street.)
@ActionKid3 жыл бұрын
It's a bit confusing because the sign behind it says 30 St without the "th", and the first St for 31st Street should be closer to the 31 to indicate that it belongs to the number.

@@ActionKid Actually you're right. Since they put 31 st St, then they should have put 30 th St. Sounds like the Streets and Transportation Department is not too terribly organized. Once again, thank you for sharing New York City with all of us.

Last time I crossed the GW Bridge was in 1955. There were no tall bldgs at that time. Never was in West New York that I can remember but as a kid there was a little human interest story about a WW 2 vet who joined the National Guard and then in the course of getting set up in civilian life he forgot all about the Guard until the State of NJ arrested him for failure to attend drills. They later dropped the charges and that was his final experience with the NG. Apropo Union City and Weehawken, I would park in one of those areas and catch the bus into Port Authority. It was great walking this tour, I was surprised to see Turkish restaurants in the area. Living in Germany, we have a batch of Turkish businesses here. Love watching these videos and getting appropriately homesick. Keep 'em coming.

Hello ActionKid, You're doing a great job on your city tours plus you have a lovely speaking voice (at least for women) very relaxing and masculine, FYI, there was NO typo on 31 st Street - in fact, it was not clear because there were 2 abbreviations 31, the first (st) was thirty-first, and the second ST was indeed the abbreviation for Street. Thanks and keep at it. Happy 2021!

1:07:16 Union City is a merge of Union Hill and West Hoboken. Twin City. The Ave is named Bergenline because of the train line that used to run through it. It was called the Bergen Line so the name of the Ave became Bergenline Ave. 1:07:49. Good food actually.

I used to live in Union city and buy in Berger line but too many old buildings ugly apt and expensive like a new building. For that I move out but good mayor. Hudson county is for people from New York City to live. And the rents are in high and the devolves are buying the buildings destroyed and built condo for the well off from New York City replacing the locals even the landlords remodel the apt and sell to people who are wealthy.😭😭😭😭😭😡

I grew up on 37th St. You left Union City into Weehawken @7:00 crossing Park Ave. (Pleasant Ave. is just an arm by Harbor View Apts. & under Rt. 495 to Lincoln Tunnel.) Instead of going right on Jefferson, staying north on Park would have brought you to the old red-brick water tower, a Italian design, & from there go east to Hamilton area. [At the top of Jefferson St. stairs, a few yards south is an old sundial.] @18:05 [you, "OK"] you missed the bust/plaque of Hamilton Duel Site just a few feet south! [Tiny dot on other side of fence by two pedestrians.] "Boulevard East" is the old/common name for "JFK Blvd. East" & parallel to it, back in Union City, is (JF)Kennedy Blvd (formerly Hudson Blvd.) The one by "the cliffs" is Blvd. East. [Highwood connected to Park Ave.] @41:00 you are not crossing into Union City; it's all Weehawken east of Park Ave. Also the *exact* site of Hamilton's duel (on a 'shelf' along the cliffs) isn't known; probably altered by old RR tracks (pre-lite rail) years ago, but the rock his rested on is the base for the plaque & bust BACK when you first made sight of the river.

Originally this area used to be a borough of New York City, hence the reason there is a West New York. 59:50 East New York in Brooklyn. Eventually it became part of New Jersey but this is the only part of New Jersey that looks like NY borough. West New York actually starts half way through 49th St.

Absolutely correct. Cubans are almost non existent now (although there are still a few). Union City is now mostly Dominican and Ecuadorian. Used to go to the Burlesque at the Hudson theater in Union City durng the 40's. It was barred in NY, but it was great fun in New Jersey. . Just A bus ride from Manhattan, the comedians, the chorus girls. (Some fat some not so beautiful but all working hard) and the candy butchers going through the audience during intermission. Selling candy with the promise of a genuine watch with a genuine pig skin watch band for only a quarter. Great fun when your a teenager. Oh, and almost forgot, the strippers.

Me, yet again!! 😜 Union City reminds me of Salem Point, my favorite neighborhood in Salem, MA, that is primarily Puerto Rican. The businesses are Latino owned and operated, and most all of the residents are bilingual and speak English more clearly than the natives because their speech is absent of the Bostonese accent that blurs and obliterates the English language!! 😂😂😂 A close friend and coworker of mine who was a native of Puerto Rico lived in "the Point," so I had the good fortune of spending a lot of time there. This was nearly 40 years ago when I lived in my home state of MA. I still stay connected to my home state, and today, the Point neighborhood has made some improvements and advancements in terms of community support and services as well as children's programs. I felt compelled to share this info after taking your fascinating tour of Union City.

Ohhhh, kiddo!! I watched you climb that staircase and was out of breath on the fifth set of stairs just sitting on much couch!! 😂😂😂 Nothing can more remind you of your age than watching someone young handle a challenging staircase!! 😂😂😂 This was such a fresh, exciting tour, beautiful scenery, breathtaking view of the NYC skyline!! Can't help but think how rather strange it looks without the Twin Towers looming over everything. I never especially cared for the Towers to begin with because they were too imposing, obliterating the rest of the skyline; yet watching them being destroyed was like watching two old friends being murdered in cold blood. Anyway, those beautiful old homes remind me of those right here in St Paul, on Cathedral, Ramsey and Crocus Hills. But I loved even more touring Union City - more urban, right up my alley!!
