Coogan’s portrayal of Savile is absolutely masterful. He is so accurate that you forget you’re not seeing the real Savile. If he doesn’t win a BAFTA for this it’s a crime.

@paulconway3365 How so? He pretty much named and shamed Savile during a radio interview that was suppressed by the BBC. And in doing so he had potentially put himself in Savile's crosshairs where the DJ could have sued him for libel had it been made public. Therefore I fail to see how you can say he was just as bad.

The Reckoning was so good, chilling but good. Steve really embodied Jimmy Savill and deserves a BAFTA for his performance. Also the guy on the left is actually one of my friends Armand Beasley, who is an amazing makeup artist as well as an actor.

I recall, as if it were just yesterday, growing up in the 60s as a 11-/12-/13-year old and watching Top of the Pops and this tormented rat. You know, even back then, so many of us kids used to talk about Saville being a weirdo; it was plain for all to see. How right we were! Oh, and by the way, a first-class series and Steve, an incredible performance

So you'd rather they just ignored it? I'm hoping it's a good sign, personally. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure there's still all sorts of shit happening at the BBC, and also the Newsnight cancellation should have been dramatised in this, rather than being consigned to a footnote. But if you watch the 4 hours - the BBC cover-up is generally portrayed quite honestly and openly. That's why I take the broadcast of The Reckoning on BBC1 at 9pm, one of the most coveted slots in what remains of international terrestrial TV, as an encouraging thing. Feels more honest than rejecting the commission, and it being on ITV or Channel 4, with a load of adverts. Not sure that would have been possible.

Coogan’s portrayal was spot on but I don’t think the makeup quite worked for the scenes of him as an old man. When you see photos and videos of him in his old age, he really did _look_ like a disgusting, unwashed, grotesque figure that you’d go out of your way to avoid whether you knew him or not.

Absolutely chilling portrayal of one of Britain’s highest celebrity offenders. Steve has captured the personality, the mannerisms so accurate it’s frightening. And that is from someone who grew up watching Savile on TV. I seriously don’t know if to watch this and find out what really happened and be angry and disappointed he hoodwinked a entire nation but for the few who tried and knew to expose him even more than I do now.
