Mario Hoogenboom (NL) has figured out in his blog that the relays may or may not switch because of insufficient control voltage on the relay coil. Sort of 9 volts vs the required 12 volt.. He actually modified the board (really high tech soldering) to increase the voltage to 12 V. Some older bms'es hd this fault, the newer seem to be better.
@JdZ-2023
@JdZ-2023 12 күн бұрын
Yes. He discovered that the SMD resistors that drive the opto-couplers in the relay circuits are too high, and due to its ratio of 200x, the current through the relay coil is too low. Instead of the 500 ohm, it needs 220 ohm. You can solder a 390 ohm parallel over the existing 500 ohm resistors or replace them for 220 ohm. The first way is easier to achieve. The second way requires more tools and craftsmanship.

If the current through the relais is on the edge to makenit switch, then temperature of the driver of the relais may cause it to work (or not): at low temperatures it might not work and at high temperatures it might. Temperature affects the current gain of the driving transistor of the relais.

Thanks for staying in touch with JK and getting the v14 hardware an update as well! This is very much appreciated! I can tell you that the dry contact bug is not happening for me. I'm using both dry contacts on my two V14 BMS batteries for starting a fan to cool the battery and bms when either the battery temp is too high (DRY 1) or the BMS mosfet temp is too high (DRY 2). I confirmed today that both contacts on both systems are working fine. This is still with old firmware though...

Good day. Suggest to developers to add a function of decreasing the permitted charging current when approaching 100%. For example, Continued charge current is set to 50 A. When charging from 0% to 90% SOC, the value transmitted by the BMS to the inverter will be 50 A. Then it will decrease proportionally to 5 amperes to 100% SOC.

Was thinking the same a while ago. In this case the balancer has more time (read:capacity) to bring the cells at the same SOC. It causes the cell voltages not to get too far off from eachother.

I think they're missing something in the flow chart at <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1114">18:34</a>. Step #2 sets a timer for 1 hr, then does a voltage check, and if true, then sets SOC to 100%. On #2, I think you need the timer but also a voltage monitor. If voltage drops below a certain threshold, then restart the timer. Threshold could be a calculated value. Maybe 55.2v - .05? For example, maybe a short heavy load came on? If voltage goes under the calculated value then reset the timer, otherwise keep it running. This should make sure you're getting the full absorption time in, without having to wait a full hour to check it, and possibly restarting the full cycle over again.

Got 15.35 loaded in my boards and I'll test tomorrow when I can reach the top. Hopefully this update will help me out with my inverters. Mine are among those that chop off the charging when the BMS reports 100%. They don't support absorption or floating for Li batteries. Hopefully they are responding to the RCV? I'm not sure of that at this point. But this update backdoors the inverter at least forcing absorption where the cells can be balanced. I've got nice cells and they aren't far off from being balanced when they get there as it is. If I can get that far, floating really doesn't matter. The inverters don't use the batteries at all until available solar drops below demand. Fingers crossed, see how it goes tomorrow. Think we've got some sun coming? Setting at about 96% now probably high 80's by morning. You're a gold mine brother! Don't let anybody tell you different!

Currently I think the dry contacts is the better way to activate the cell heating pads. If you use the intended heating circuit the alarm activates the heating pads, but the alarm also prevents charging. I do like the fact the heating pad port reports the current, however it would be better to have two alarms, one to activate the heating pads and another to prevent charging if the heating pads fail and the temperature drops too low.

Question to the JK community: I have already done over 20 projects for battery cases (fishing and boats). Almost all of them with the JBD BMS, where the loss of capacity is very low if not used for weeks or months (measured by the voltage of the cells). Now I have done a project with a JK BMS - there the loss was almost 30% in just under 2 months. Since I sold the battery case, I can only test a few things. Hi Andy SUPER great news on updates for the BMS V14/V15. Looking forward to start updating. Here in Denmark and it’s about 0A outside season, bringing me to my issue. Is there an “easy” way to program charge voltage (CVL) to be overwritten by Victron, maybe using NodeRed, if supplementing battery charge during low tariff hours, low tariff hours can easily change from one day to the next, so could see a problem in finding a great setting for the timer setting returning from float to bulk charge. Anyway, I most likely need to use NoteRed to implement battery charge from measure AC on grid meter, have old AC coupled 3p inverter that I don’t want to touch. Sometime grid feed-in is at a cost to me, this I want to limit to highest possible degree. The negative grid feed-in price is mostly during high peak solar production to grid in summertime’s but also during nighttime during wintertime’s where wind power production is at a high. System info: MPPT, 6kW 3p inverter, 3x MP2, VM-3P75CT, 3x YIXIANG DIY (likely V1) and Cerbo.

Hi Andy! Did you ever have the problem with your 16S-batteries that the total cell voltage is 0,4V different to the other boxes, even with cells from the same lot? The reason is a non-exact-measuring of the cell-voltage by one of my JK-PB-BMS. So i adjusted the cell-voltage of that pack in the App to get the same 100%-SOC. For the inverter its no problem because the batteries are connected parallel and it measures the voltage of the total packs. As a colleague proposes that the master should get the same JK-settings for the slaves automatically this would be a problem in my case....

Hello Andy, since firmware 15.33 I have the problem that if I set the requested charging voltage in the JK BMS to less than 3.444 V, the Victron MP2 increases its frequency as it should when the batteries are full. If I set it to 3.444 or higher, everything works as it should. What could be the reason for this? Greetings to Australia

I have v15 bms's. I had them connected to my Victron system and gave them control. The inverter turned off because it didn't receive data from the BMS in time. Only time I've had an unexpected power outage. For some reason the BMS isn't consistently reporting so I've had to turn BMS control on. I wanted the active control just in case both batteries shut off charging unexpectedly causing the charge controller voltage to spike

As someone with 5 V15 of the JK BMS there is one feature I would really like to see in the future. The ability to tell master and slave BMSs to propogate settings changes from master to slaves automagicaly.
@mandimandi2523
@mandimandi2523 13 күн бұрын
this would make sense only when you can choose between automatic and manual changes to the slaves. one of my 16S-batteries - all from the same lot - show different cell and total voltage - the reason is the JK- PB BMS. The responsible chip for cell measuring of ONE of my PB-BMS measures a different voltage per cell and in total accordingly..... so one of the the PB`s is "faulty" and i adjust the RCV -Voltage accordingly to match the SOC of the other 16S-boxes.....

I was following during all this long journey of developing the better JK inverter BMS , and especially about the better SOC% calculation and all this time an idea was sticking in my mind: why not to add as additional correcting factor the 10%,20%,30%..70%,80%,90% estimated-by-voltage-at-rest SOC% points like the JBD BMS has in their Bluetooth apps, and to make that algorithm even better: just make the software (built in into the BMS) to catch a long-enough period of resting (0A current) and "adjust" the SOC% according to the pre-set via the app voltage points; with accurate voltage measurement points (at rest of course) can add significant correctness to the overall more accurate SOC% measurement; and the longer "at rest" period it can take, the more correct the estimate will be. I understand that it's not the best way but IN ADDITION and in some cases it can help A LOT (I'm using that in JBD BMS-es and that method works good !). Even if not "at rest" but with known certain amps discharge/charge if set voltage points accordingly it also can adjust the SOC% accordingly. So in the app it could be settable both voltage points with accordingly current levels. Once determined and set - it can help adjusting the SOC% significantly more accurate. What about that? To me that idea worth considering! P.S. this actually means that the BMS's firmware should have a feature to set %SOC manually then it can be adjusted internally or even externally. Using above-described logic or other way as well.

I`m wondering regarding SoC 100% calculation. I currently have 15.33 running and it requires only one cell to reach the configured SoC 100% voltage to set the BMS to 100% SoC. I`ll upgrade to this version and test if it changes. This would be really great. :-) But will need some sun for it in grey, cold and wet Germany. ;-)

Andy, I have been asking JK to add a feature to the relays and they have been telling no. Maybe you could help. We have over temp trigger for the relay but it would be nice to have under temp trigger as well. That will allow us to use it as a thermostat to turn on a heater if the batteries get to cold. The current logic for the heater function turns off charging if the heater is on. That could cause the batteries to die from the heat running while there is no sun and when the sun comes out it is still to cold so it will not recharge. With the function on the relays you can have them trigger before an under temp alarm turns off the charging on the batteries. Thank you
@RobSteve1
@RobSteve1 12 күн бұрын
I am new to this as well and living in Canada, it is getting cold. My system is in an out building with the 8s, 24v battery in an insulated pelican case. Prior to moving it outside, I tested the heat function, but came to the same conclusion as you. I set it up on the relay, a low temp option is available in 15.33 at least. I tested it and the relay opens and closes. The heater is connected to the battery positive via a fuse and the negative is on the P- of the BMS. My assumption is when the battery gets a low voltage error, the P- will no longer allow power to flow and the heater will shut off.
@RobSteve1
@RobSteve1 12 күн бұрын
In regards to the heater option of BMS, I was told by Hankzor that your charger is supposed to supply the current to heat up the battery to the point the BMS re-enables charging. The flaw in this ,for my system at least, if charging is turned off by the BMS, the Multiplus turns off charging, so there is no current to run the heater. I was testing this on a bench and have not confirmed if it turns off the Solar charging too. I assume it does. I wonder if Andy can figure this out? Maybe there is a Victron option or setup we don’t know about yet.

Do all of your bms shut down by button after update?
@RobSteve1
@RobSteve1 3 күн бұрын
Mine would not shutdown when I wanted to restart it after updating. The long press of the button would beep as usual, but immediately beeped again without a shutoff. I traced it to having the Solar still connected and providing a charge, which must restart the BMS. When I disconnected the Solar it shut down normally. I had forgot that the Solar charge controller was connected to the power in side of the battery switch, which I had done so I could turn off the power to the inverter but still charge with Solar. Even with the Solar panel disconnect breakers turned off, the charge controllers must have a residual charge that restarts the BMS. Pulling the charge controller fuse allowed the BMS to shut down. These are just the small Victron 75/15 and 100/20 controllers. The behaviour probably has nothing to do with the firmware upgrade and may just be specific to trying to turn off the BMS while current is flowing in.

@@PavelBrand The cell is charged 100% if it is on 3.65V constant voltage and the charge current has reduced to 0.05C of the cell capacity.
