Life on EARTH might require oxygen and nitrogen etc. but life on other worlds might rely on completely different chemicals.
@aethere4l Жыл бұрын
The habitable zone is defined as the distance from the star in which liquid water can occur naturally. This is required for life *as we know it* to exist, as water acts as a solvent for all known life forms. It is theorized that other compounds could serve as a solvent, allowing organic life to exist in different temperature ranges. Ammonia and Methane are amongst those and have much lower freezing points, significantly extending the habitable zone if true. The presence of methane oceans/lakes on Titan mean it may be possible for life to exist there. As methane boils at -258F and freezes at -296F a carbon-based lifeform using methane would not be able to survive on Earth, just as Earth lifeforms could not live on Titan.
@fushhiii Жыл бұрын

How do seasons work if it's orbiting around a planet and the sun? We ordered around the Sun and only have four seasons. Having an extra celestial body to orbit around seems like it would change a lot. We would have to get more pictures of Titan and different locations around Saturn and the Sun.
@LucasFerreira-gx9yh Жыл бұрын
changes nothing actually, the differences caused by the orboit around saturn is minescule compared to the orbit around the sun, and titan is tidally locked to saturn with a orbit around the equator so titan ends up with the same seasons as saturn.
@aethere4l Жыл бұрын
In addition to what Lucas said, Earth's seasons are a result of axial tilt not distance from the Sun. The Earth is actually furthest from the sun during the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere and reaches it's closest approach early in January. If the Earth didn't tilt on its axis we wouldn't experience seasons, at least not as we think of them now. I'm not sure what, if any, axial title exists for Titan, but I do know that it would still be consistent throughout a solar year. Assuming a tilt similar to Earth's it's safe to say it would experience seasons similarly as well, though more muted due to the distance from the sun.
