thanks for your advice and the Hobie company should have someone like you building their kayaks. Bravo to you and thank you for the good advice. Where do you buy parts for your kayak? THANK YOU

Kind of late to the party, but I'm working as an apprentice machinist, so learning that machining is such a large part of the company that made the board that I use every single time I hit the water makes me really happy and proud to be learning the trade.

Jt, I certainly appreciate your taking the time walk us through all the mechanical challenges and the solutions you come up with to resolve those challenges. I am very curious. What kind of work do you do as far the good old j.o.b. is concerned. You have a high knowledge of building and fabricating from scratch.

A machinist. I figured because of the fine eye for close details. Recognized it because I am a machinist myself. Almost 40 yrs of exp. I wondered what made what you said and did. That made me feel an understanding of your meticulous nature. Its a trained eye for things you see. 👍

Might I make a suggestion? Tim Percy, he also makes plates that go underneath the chair legs. This might help with the chair legs cracking the deck over time. If you’ve already added them I didn’t see them or if you’re going to try something different for this hobie issue we’d like to see your work around. I’d hate to hear your deck cracked around chair and you’ll have to strip every off the hull and start over. Otherwise great content appreciate you sharing thanks.

Thanks again TJ, been saving for a year to put an Xi3 on my PA 14 and researched many mounting solutions. Wasn’t planning to spend as much as the Ketch products cost. Your video introduced me to their quick disconnect mount and that is what sent me over the edge. I purchased my bow mount accessories on Dec 28 with plans to also change my cross bar mounting before spring, hopefully! Great content as usual! Oh and by the way this is the first 1 hour and 41 minute KZbin video I have ever watched to the end!

Have the rod tube delete plates fixed the water intrusion issue. I’m waiting for them to come back in stock at Ketch and I was curious if they were worth losing the rod tubes over. Thanks and love your videos. I have learned a lot by watching.

The problem I see- is , that in summer with high temperatures , the Aluminium will fit in the same size compare to Plastik- that’s not fine , cause for example the tube plate will bring water inside

Hdpe shrinks .020 to .035 per inch when it cools from the molten state out of the mold. In hdpe ‘s room temperature the material does expand and contract, albeit at a rate of .001-.002 per inch in normal operating conditions. Aluminum expands and contracts as well but at a rate less than hdpe. With expansion and shrink of an hdpe kayak, not only is marine sealant used for sealing fasteners but also to take into account the properties of hdpe. If one does not think hdpe expands and contracts, have you ever seen the rotomolder cooler with a wavy outside surface?
