small misinterpretation, the dudes who sat at the garden party were mostly not eunuchs. They were military and civil officers from the main palace. The garden party takes place in the main palace, not the rear palace, where only women, eunuchs and the emperors direct relatives can enter. Its one of the few occasions, women of the rear palace can leave the rear palace. Thats why Maomao remarked, that Jinshis assisstant Gaoshun sitting with the military officers (and in a pretty high position) and making such a striking figure, was a bit weird. It implies, that Gaoshun himself or his family has way more influence than Maomao suspected

One thing you should notice is that they mention that the prior emperor had two sons. One of which is the current emperor. I wonder who the emperor's younger brother is?
