I think the white cabinets would be nice and bright! I would sample different tones but I think a warmer white as opposed to cooler would go best with your countertop.

We paid 15 cents a tile for white subway tile at Home Depot last summer. Our whole kitchen backsplash was less than $100 and my hubby installed it himself. Highly recommend renting or purchasing a laser level to DIY.

No doubt about ..it’s absolutely beautiful. The change is stunning. My cabinets are oatmeal with black stain & black granite tops. Someday I’ll do a kitchen renovation but I just can’t do anything remotely close to white. All of friends have white kitchens & are gorgeous, but it’s just not my choice. Can’t wait to see what colors choices for your cabinets. Love the bathroom cabinet colors too!

I could never have a forever home. I crave the change and excitement of a new home, new town, and fresh start. I dont have kids, so that isn't a factor for my husband and I but we LOVE moving (except for moving day, that's terrible for everyone)

I kinda feel like you should go with the same Pale Oak color for the outer cabinets. Going for the monochrome look is a bit more modern feeling. I agree that white would be a bit too much for the space, but taupe might be too dark. I’m stumped for the backsplash though. 😂

Yeah! You finally have your counter and it’s gorgeous. I suggest that you and Kyle pick out tile sheets you like, bring them home, set them up on the counter. You can purchase each sheet from a big box store or tile center and return them. Set them up and keep for 24 hours so you are able to see them in different lighting all day and especially when you get up in the morning. Congratulations!

Warning bead board is really difficult to clean so keep that in mind, especially where the kids will have their feet.

I have an idea. Before you paint the island or put the bead board on, try painting it white and/or the taupe colors you mentioned you are unsure about painting your cabinets. Just do a couple strips or one side. Then, live with it for a bit until you do the bead board. This way, you won't have to worry about painting over it since you're covering it with beadboard. Use the Island as your temporary canvas. I absolutely LOVE the counters. My husband was watching with me. He felt it might be too white with white cabinets and the counters. I personally really like it. It looks so clean. And I love all the black accents. Then, if you do the beadboard and paint the island evergreen fog, it will just tie the whole downstairs together.

Working church mission construction trips we always signed or wrote messages on the studs before putting drywall up. In our house i wrote scripture on the back of a the wood plank for our flooring and put it at the door as you walk in as a blessing.

I'm so excited for you on the kitchen reno! Suggestion for backsplash: somehow incorporate the green to bring the whole room together? Something small and subtle that can be changed out if you ever repaint. Maybe pick up the color in the veining of the countertops for your cabinets fronts, so the different shades of white don't fight with each other. Forever home--how long is forever with houses? We spent 25 years raising our children in our last house, but what was comfortable for a family of six was too much for a couple of two. As far as the girls are concerned, it was their forever childhood home, but we now live in a home that's perfect for us as we enter our golden years; another forever home. One more thing...two years is not a long time for getting major reno done. Remember the 25 year residence? Never did get the kitchen redone, and that's okay. Many happy memories and delicious meals were made in that imperfect kitchen. Don't beat yourself up for a modified timeline; you are amazing and doing great!

Hello! Great job on the kitchen. I always wanted a glass backsplash. You match the Sage color from the living room or the other green that you talked about. Putting up wallpaper is another idea. You could put up a wallpaper with the glass over it. At least with the glass you could easily clean it. Thanks

For the backsplash, I'd go with handmade subway tiles. They look timeless but have some texture and slight color differences which make them more interesting. If you wanted a more modern look, you could install them stacked instead of in a staggered, brick pattern.

My ideas for cabinet colors are 1. The same color as your built ins but at 25%. 2. I like the idea of a taupe that has similar undertones as your built in color but that also pulls a color from your counters. It's already beautiful, it's going to be amazing!!

I agree with Jenny that the subway tiles are timeless. If I’m not sure about colour, I get a big piece of lining paper and paint that, then I hang it on the wall (or doors in your case) to see what it looks like at different times of the day in different lights, and if I can live with it. It has always worked well for me. I like the green island idea (mines navy), but white cupboards will always be the classic for me. It’s so light, bright & clean looking.

I think since you are doing the evergreen fog for the island, which is a warm color, if you do a white, find a warm white if that makes sense. Something toned down and warm. You could easily do a headboard back splash or a nice subway tile to coordinate with the counters. I would love to see a laundry room refresh! Everything’s coming along!

Love your counter tops and the sink. What a difference it has made in your kitchen. Your backsplash could be a larger subway tile since you have so much space. My opinion only to keep a classic look for your subway tile so it doesn’t outdate quickly. Buy some sample of paint on your cupboards so you can see the color in the different light throughout the day. You can’t go wrong with what feels comfortable to the two of you. You have done a great job on all your renovations. ❤

I actually have a couple ideas!!! 1. Pull that green from the shelving all the way over and do top and bottom cabinets in same color and do a wavy subway tile in a perfect white/cream shade from the countertops. If you look from the living room to the island you really are not gonna see much of any color with your 4 bar stools there. I would put a beadboard there and paint it what ever you decide and try to match the stain on the chairs with your table. Matte black hardware on the cabinets also. I think it would be stunning and balance out the green from one side to the other. Its such a soft neutral that I don't think I would grow tired of for a very long time. Another idea would be is to paint all the cabinets in a creamy white and do a fun patterned backsplash with that green in it and even another earthy color like a terracotta. I don't really like uppers painted one color and lowers painted another. Just not my thing but anything you choose will be beautiful.

100% love the choice of countertop you guys chose! And I love the fact that the other 2 bathrooms were able to get fresh ones as well. Absolutely love the single story island. Made such a big impact. Love the fact you will be going with the evergreen fog color on the island as well. I definitely think maybe some sort of darker choice for the other cabinets to make the countertops shine. Although, it’s a bit tricky with the evergreen fog color. Something in the darker side of beige maybe almost similar to the bathroom cabinets. Finding the right balance between that. I love your countertop choice and bringing the island down to one level. So perfect for meals, buffet and food prep. I love to sit at the counter to chop veggies etc. I would totally add the 5th stool at the side. Fun to have a spot for everyone. I think a neutral subway tile that compliments the counter would be a happy choice. Also wondering about painting base cabinets fog and the uppers the white/cream that matches the wood trim of baseboards, shutters etc. I saw another KZbinr used a heat gun on her kitchen cabinet sides & doors and was able to peel off the paint finish. She then used denatured alcohol on a cloth to gently rub off the tacky glue and followed with a light sanding. An oil primer, then a couple coats of paint of choice. Don't know if your cabinets are similar, but wanted to share.

Love all of the progress! For your cabinets have you thought of doing a 2-tone style? White picks up a lot of visible dirt so easily with life/kids/pets and evergreen fog on the lower cabinets might be a nice idea for continuity with your island, and a white for the top and back splash to brighten the space ❤️

Backsplash tile idea - we have a white subway tile, but it has a slightly rippled texture/surface. It gives a little movement and texture but looks so good. They are a glazed ceramic tile, so easy to clean.

A light gray or greige cabinet and black subway tiles. I have purplish/gray walls, and I'm painting my brown cabinets white with black hardware and black backsplash. The new countertops look great!!! Another awesome video! For backsplash, I've been loving the look of pebble/raw rock backsplash, it adds so much texture and variations to the environment that I love! However, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea for a more natural look and it does depend on what color cabinets you do to make the rocks pop. Cabinet color is a tricky one, my go to is white since you have dark wood floors but that might wash out your beautiful new counter tops. Maybe taupe, like SW 7030 Anew Gray or SW 7031 Mega Griege. I think it's a wonderful idea to paint the center piece of your kitchen that green color. I'm very excited for whatever you come up with ❤

The house is looking awesome! My first thought was to strip the doors and stain them. Then, you panned the kitchen and butcher's hallway. Yep, nope. LOL. So, I have 2 thoughts: a paint color close to your hanging lamp over the dining room table to bring out the brown in your countertops; and, to take cupboard doors off of bathrooms and put against the built-in in livingroom to see which color works with the green. I think that leaning the different paint colored doors against the bulit-in will help with your decision making. Good luck!

There is a modern trend for putting a sheet of glass up as a splash back. My thought is you paint the wall behind the counter white put a light stencil over the white not too busy, then put a clear sheet of glass over the paint. You would have a one of a kind classic and modern splashback that would be excellent to keep clean as no grout as with tiles. It would definitely look high end. It would also allow you to paint the cabinet doors and drawer fronts white. The rest of the cupboard surrounds should be the lovely green fog. The kitchen then would look designer. Definitely the black door and drawer furniture.

I don't know what color you were planning to paint your cabinets but Home depot has this really beautiful multi cream tones (and solid white!) picket fence style tile, SO BEAUTIFUL and I think it would work in your kitchen I just got skyline honed marble in my new kitchen and I REGRET not getting quartzite already. I had NO IDEA how high maintenance it is, it's just so beautiful and sparkly looking though! I adore your new counters!!!!!

Gosh it’s all coming together!!! I really love the Long Hexagon tiles! In a nice classic colour they can add a little splash of decadence but keep the kitchen in style for a long time!

What ever you choose, make sure it does not clash with the pattern on the counter tops. They are gorgeous, and you do not want to take awy from that. so, maybe a solid backsplash without texture.

What if you do the bottom cabinets something like the "pebble" color you've used in bathrooms and such and then the tops a white? That would help break up the super brightness but also add more flow to the home? Idk how it'd look with the light green, but its an idea! Countertops look so beautiful! I love them so much!

I'd paint the lower cabinets darker, maybe a coordinating color with the island but a couple of shades darker? The upper cabinets I'd paint bright white. I love all the changes so far!!!

The kitchen looks amazing. Great pick on the countertops. On your cabinets, lots of folks are doing lowers one color and uppers another. Maybe the white on top and the green on the lowers? Or take out the middle solid panel on the uppers and put in glass to make them less bright white. I like a tile backsplash. So many options. What ever you pick will look perfect. The best is the deep sink. Makes dish washing easy.👍 I have deep sink too. Wth my family since 1999. Hand wash so this works very well 👏 We do not own a dish washer.

Backsplash I would pull the lightest tint from your countertops and go with a subway tile in that coulor with the grout the same color as the tile (not to take away the beauty of the counters) maybe herringbone style - the reason is you can alway paint your cupboards and the future bead board but not the backsplash so go neutral and close to your counter color. Then your cupboards I would again pull one of the darker colors from your countertops and go with that…but not too dark. And love the idea of your island being darker so it will pop. Don’t forget that all your hardware is black. Like I mentioned whatever is permanent, go with neutrals but paint can always be changed. You had very dark counters and they bothered you so don’t put up a dark backsplash - you would only be switching your bothersome eyesore around. Hope this helps. Snyways you will be living for a week with all light colors so you should see if you like it that way

i wouldn’t put wainscoting under island seating area unless you want a farm style look. You can probably get end of damaged cabinet recovered with a thin laminate or veneer - check out cabinet stores or installers on ideas. I would put a white matte finish subway tile backsplash. It’s classic and clean. I’d bring more wood tones on counters like cutting boards leaning against backsplash, an earthen crock for utensils or vase. It’ll bring out those veins in your quartzite and complement the pale oak wall color oak paint color on walls. Love the chairs for island!

We’ve been in our house for 3 years now and I used to call it our forever home. Now I’m not so sure. It’s cold here and I’d love to live somewhere warmer sooner rather than later. Makes it really tough to want to spend money to make cosmetic upgrades that I’d love to do. Your space is looking amazing

1:00 I think backsplash should have some color in them, I would put glass looking tile that has some subtle soft green or blue because your counter looks like sand rolling in from the ocean, beautiful job as always, you are so ambitious I love it

Really like the island at one level, didn't think it was going to make a big difference but it so does. Like the idea of a warm colour rather than white on the cabinets x

Amanda congratulations looks great! After my last graduated high school we downsized to a much smaller home and we don’t regret it. It’s clean all the time and not in stages and upgrades are more affordable due to the reduced square feet. In the end, nothing is forever!

Love the green fog colour and beat board idea. What about choosing a paint shade from the new counter tops? Same for the back splash. Picking out a tone from the natural stone will make it timeless.

Amanda and Kyle, your kitchen looks amazing🎉 Well worth the year wait and you Both wirke hard to get here. The island alone makes such a difference. You're able to seat everyone around the island and that makes the space extra special. The sink is a game changer and makes washing dishes more satisfying with no splashing. I would say extend the bead board on the back splash in a lighter cream color to tie in throughout the bead board additions you mentioned. Keep the outer cabinets a lighter cream color. The green will pop, your dining table will stand out but work well with the lighter colors plus your console table has a black top. You want everything to work together aesthetically. Your gratitude for us is mutual. Thank you for sharing authentic, real life, genuine content and your virtual friendship. Last summer was difficult losing my best friend of almost 40 years. Your kitchen is gonna be so pretty. I would leave cabinets a soft white then take the color of the feature wall in the formal living room and carry that over to the kitchen walls, it’ll really make a statement and allow everything to pop, If you decide to do that you might want to consider leaving the island the same color as the cabinets, just a thought. I love where you guys are going with the kitchen and really the house makeovers thus far.

I love your kitchen, I love even more that you’re excited about it. Since you’re painting the island that warm green color. I would paint the cabinets a light cream color. That would be between the white and the taupe.

Love the counters. Love the barstools. On camera they look the same stain as the Table? I would not paint them if the stain matches. I would Restore the Finish. Try some peel and stick backsplash or go to HDepot and buy individual sheets of tile and place them around and see what works. You could paint the cabinets the lighter or darker color pulled from the counters and either would be beautiful. Tone on tone is always easier to decorate around. Since you have dark floors, if you paint the cabinets dark it could suck all the light out of the room? Do the Island and then see if it is dark then you'll know what direction to go with the rest of the cabinets. Enjoy the process. You'll get it. The rest of your house is beautiful, so you know what you're doing. So happy for you.
