I love that your lower cabinets have drawers. As one gets older, or really at any age, it is so much easier to pull out a drawer and lift something out instead of getting down on the floor to try to retrieve an item at the back of a shelf. Even pull out shelves behind a cabinet door would work. Easy to get down on the floor. Getting back up is a whole different thing! Love what you’ve done with the house. Blessings!

I love all the drawers. I think they would work so much better than cabinets. Having the open shelves in the stove area looks so much better than having cabinets there, especially since the kitchen is so open to the living room and dining room. Looks fantastic!

When I had my kitchen built over 12 years ago, I had drawers instead of cabinets. I have a corner cabinet, which I hate and holds stuff rarely used, and one under the sink. One double cabinet has since been retro fitted with pull out shelves - best decision ever - and holds small appliances (mixer, blender etc). Saves my old back.

The drawers are far more practical. You can access every item. No kitchenware lost in the back or bottom. We also have pull our pantries. Again access to all items up to the 6’ high. Very easy to keep food in rotation and access for kids of all after. Upper shelves pulled out and then down for access to those higher shelves. It was a dream. Lynette, you and Nick have hit a home run. Congratulations 🎉❤

If you have cabinets on your lowers but would prefer drawers - my husband bought kits at Home Depot and made pull out drawers in 2 of my lower kitchen cabinets, so I open the door and pull the drawer out.

I remember from magazines and older movies people mainly had shelves in the kitchen. Then it went to only a bunch of cabinets to now a blend of shelves and cabinets. I love the blended myself. Who knows what it will be like 20 years from now. Lol. Your kitchen is beautiful!!

Open shelves kinda went out of fashion cos they were just dust n muck catchers in such a busy room. Plus styles tend to disappear, come bk, n go again in cycles. Who knows those manky yellow n orange formica kitchens might come bk.....let's hope not!! 🤣🤦‍♀️ Mind you those 50s stoves are all the rage and super super exp!!

What a great improvement to the layout of your home you and Nick came up with. The sight lines are terrific and there is so much more light. It definitely makes the spaces look larger! I agree that making the vent hood (and the fireplace area) the same color as the doors (or the same color as the cabinets) would look better because of how the light affects the ability to pick up the subtle color change. Love the dividers your uncle put in that let you store so many baking dishes in one place without having to lift a bunch of heavy cookware up to get the one on the bottom! LOL. Not sure I would love having the silverware across the room from the stove, but I am sure it can work. Love the depth of the lower cabinets! I would be like you with the knives. Love the Misen knife, but wouldn't love the color clash. Everything looks like it is well organized. Great job and enjoy!!!

I have all lower drawers in my kitchen. I would have it no other way!! Drawers get pulled out and you can see everything in there. No more getting on your knees digging to find the pan in the back!! Of course I am older so no need in trying to get off your hands and knees any more. Love love love the new space!!!

It has to feel good to be settling in. You all did an amazing job on the place. I love your kitchen. I only have an apt size kitchen, but I am happy with it. We don't often get much company except our kids and grand children every now and then. Also I don't have open concept. A larger kitchen like yours would be lovely to me. I love the color of the cabinets. You can always change out the light bulbs on the wall sconces to plant lightbulbs. That could help the plants.

I started having drawers only in my lower cabinet area, years ago, before it was "cool." Full extension drawers are the most efficient use of lower cabinets, and so much easier on a person's back for using what is in them! No more on knees, digging under cabinets for that appliance or pot/pan!

Your kitchen looks fantastic. I love the idea of drawers rather than lower cabinets. Our son and DIL have them and they work great. We've lived in our home for 10+ years and am always rearranging because our needs constantly change. I think you do it just fine. We as a family were trying to limit our YT watching, so we went through and unsubsribed to all our people, so whenever we got on to YT it wouldn't be right there and we wouldn't spend all our free time doing YT...well we missed our people, so we decided a few who we really like are okay...so I unsubscribed....but then resubscribed because you're one of my favorites! 😊

Lynette, I think you have done an outstanding job with the reimagined space! The color is beautiful, green shades are my favorite. The plants will thrive if you just put a grow light bulb into the sconces. As the children grow and you live in the house the placement will evolve to be more productive. The pantry is so exciting to just dream up plans! Some of your baking pans can actually be stored in the pantry hanging on the wall or on the shelves with dowel rods to separate them. One other thing I did notice, move your strainer from under the oven so the plastic bit won’t melt and you can hang it from a shelf in the pantry. I have very narrow shelves from ikea that I hung from my pantry wall that I store the extracts and small spices. I also have an automatic light switch on the door that turns on and off when opened or closed. I also bought the lights from ikea that turn on when a cabinet door opens so I can see into the dark interior. You can order these or directly buy from ikea. Just added ideas to help you in your later years when eyes are failing as mine are now. Love you and hugs to all the kids!
