Hey Andy, the battleship SMS Schleswig-Holstein was built in 1905, launched in 1906. Saw action at the battle of Jutland. Was one of the few outdated battleships that Germany was aloud to keep after WW1. Modernised in 1935 and used as a training ship. The ship fired the opening shots of WW2 on September 1st when it bombarded a Polish base. Was used mainly for training afterwards and was sunk in 1944. So it’s a ship that has some history to it serving in two world wars and opening WW2.

This so much. I blame campy 50s movies with their crazy “Doktor Braun” for creating this mispronunciation trope. So yes dear Americans believe us German native speakers. Words like Maus, Haus, Braun are pronounced just as you pronounce Mouse, House, Brown. (Well ever so slightly different, but it’s a tiny, tiny difference) it’s certainly not pronounced Maws, Haws, Brawn :)

I've got the Trumpeter Maus, great kit, just a shame the upper hull isn't modular so you could have hatches open. Not too difficult to cut that up and make internal bracing supports. Lovely base kit.

I'd like to see you build the Maus. I'm actually interested on how Trumpeter managed to make a detailed interrior for the Maus. The only one surviving today is actually 2 different Maus joined together to make a Hollow interior. The Maus 001 was destroyed when it was blown apart and the turret of that Maus was taken and married into the Hull of the incompleted Maus 002 so the Maus on the Museum on Russian is a hollow Maus 001/002.

Honestly though, Friuls are a waste of money on the Maus. You don't see any track sag, and if you're really in a hurry to do the tracks, you can leave almost half of them and just go from the first return roller over the idler, around the bottom, and up to the last roller above the sprocket. With careful cutting, the tracks are done in less than two hours.

Two things I've noticed about the ship model: 1) the year on the box is most likely the commission date meaning that it is pre-WWII 2) Dreadnoughts are a subcategory of battleship that was first used by the British around about the Napoleonic War (Dreadnoughts are also classified in the battleship class because of the amount of guns)

The MAUS has a high price, if it had clear parts I would accept the price. Now you can throw a half kit away, you won't see anything from the inside anyway. They should have used clear parts or an open-cut kit (like some Revell U-boats).

I really hope you build the Schleswig-Holstein. I know you don’t do many ships but it was an amazing ship that taught for the wrong side of history twice. If I remember correctly she was laid down in 1905 and had a relatively interesting history. At least to me... she was christened by the last German empress, and saw action in a few battles and then the battle of Jutland Strait. After that she was repaired and used as a floating barracks for U-Boat crews. In the interwar period she was one of the few battleships that Germany was aloud to keep and went on several cruises around the Caribbean and Africa. At the beginning of world war 2 she fired the first shots, shelling the city of Danzig’s defenses signaling the advance for German forces built up on the border. She shelled a few other places then became a convoy escort until she was decommissioned. After the war the soviets beached her and used her as a long term torpedo target. Sorry to ramble on but I really think it’s a cool ship and hope to see you work on one. I don’t know if you read the comments but hey, maybe. Have a great day

That Maus kit is a ripoff at that price, I am surprised at Trumpeter. We don't know how accurate the interior is anyway as it doesn't exist anymore - the Kubinka Maus is a just a shell. I would pay a maximum of £70. Also the trees are really thick, almost as if they are making the kit twice as heavy to imply value. Very disappointing. They won't be selling many of those. 😤 The Das Werk tank transporter however is on the wish list.

First off, the kit is huge. It's a lot of plastic. Secondly, trumpeter has been raising prices as of the past few years. It's just insane! If I recall, the IS-7 kit used to cost around 80€ a year ago (but it seems the prices have fallen since then)...

@@BillyTubememe I paid £50 for the Takom Maus, the interior doesn't add that much. The Meng and Takom KingTigers and Panthers with interiors are about £60.
