It's important to note that materials are a relatively small cost of knife production. (This is obviously a general statement & depends on the exact materials involved & production methods used.) Labour and administrative costs are much bigger drivers - especially for US & Euro made knives. Halving the size of a knife may only result in 10-20% lower production cost. Regardless of size - the knife still needs to be assembled, the blade still needs to be sharpened, the knife still needs to be boxed up, the boxes still need to be shipped out, etc. I'm not specifically defending this particular price just providing some context.

I have a question for the tactical knife enthusiasts. Is there any advantage to the blade being serrated like that Swick 6?
@realbroggoАй бұрын
While most people hate serrations they do have a useful purpose. Serrations are intended to improve the ability of a knife edge to catch or ‘bite’ into certain materials (eg. synthetic ropes where a plain blade tends to slide over the surface rather than cut). They also work well on substances that are soft, flexible or can be crushed easily with downward cutting (eg. bread & some vegetables). As a result of their design, serrations create a more aggressive cut. Some serrated blades can even perform like a small hand saw. The Swick 6 isn't a tactical knife - it's a self defence knife. The difference is important when it comes to serrations. As a general comment, from tactical perspective, serrations are often more of a hinderance than a help as they tend to tear rather than cut and can get caught up in some materials making their use frustrating. However, from a self defence perspective serrations can offer a benefit because of their aggressive cutting power. In situations where neatness doesn't count serrations can often cut through materials such as clothing more easily and can cause more aggressive wounds. If you are at risk of losing your life and you decide to use potentially lethal force to defend it, then you're going to want something that has the best chance of stopping the threat - neatness doesn't count. Hope this helps. (Please check local laws regarding the use of knives for self defence!)

Man I used to want a Mnandi so bad, but the inlays on the Gen 3 models so far have been very uninspiring to me compared to the richer, more exotic wood choices of the past.

Does the Buckmaster knife come in a gold plated sheath for $800 ? I feel sorry for anyone that thinks they need that thing.

News flash for Buck - 420HC was an entry level stainless steel in the 1980's and in 2024 it's still an entry level stainless steel. Yes the BOS heat treat lifts its performance, but it's not alchemy - it doesn't magically transform it into some sort of modern super steel. 420HC is VERY cheap to buy and work with. I feel sorry for those knife consumers who do not know any better and purchase this blade only to realise that it's the same steel as Grandpa's old 110. Sharp blades all.

Sorry all too expensive knives apart the Boker traditional which I like.

I don’t know man, it just seems like the prices are high for what you’re getting. These are all $80 knives. What’s new and different to justify these high prices? Everything is basically the same as the drawer full of knives I have already.

That Mnandi? A small framelock knife that's not an easy one handed open. Nicely made I'm sure. But $500? Do they sell any? At all?
@davidgarrett5671Ай бұрын
Yes. In fact they will probably sell out quickly.

The first two knives the cold steel and the buck 2.0 ..My question would be is Cold steel and buck out of their mind?, $500 for the cold steel and 800 for the 2.0 ... For that kind of money there's a ton of great knives out there I can get for that kind of cash !, I'm a fan of both brands but some of these knife companies are asking ridiculous prices these days !! 🤷

Benchmade: crazy unpopular pricing. Cold Steel *ahem GSM* Hold My Beer! Really sad to see. Was it at least DLC and just not mentioned? Still wouldn’t bring it close. They need to up the refinement by a large margin for a tactical folding liner lock that’s not made by Reate for $500 🙃 Reminds me of that you were supposed fight them. Not become them meme. Sheesh!
