Those Spyderco Tenacious models are a bit perplexing. They've gotta be planning on offering those in other steels in the future (standard FRN versions are available in S35VN & M4 now, for example). Titanium and 8Cr13MoV is just a strange pairing. Kinda like buying a Bentley hood ornament for a Geo Metro to "class it up"

Maybe they are selling parts by selling better handle on this one after selling better blades with crap handles earlier and people will combine two into one superior overall?

A Bentley would be analogous to a $5000 luxurious custom knife. As for cars in general, lots of people don't need nor care about having a high performance engine, but they want a nice interior and a cool exterior. And the Tenacious is available in various different configurations, including with high performance steels, but they are all below $150. That is good because the Tenacious is part of the Budget Folders line in the Spyderco catalog, They have plenty of knives over $200 for those who want to spend more with no compromises.

Most Spyderco stuff has been in the same ballpark as Benchmade for years already but I've never seen any Benchmade product that uses anything like 8cr or is made outside the USA like some Spyderco such as the Tenacious is. Koenig is an old or rather alternative spelling style for the German word König, which translates to king. DCA is closer, but Umlauts are notoriously hard for anglophone people, especially people speaking American English. Walter Koenigs surname is a shortened version of the ancestral surname of his family, Königsberg, which in turn is an old name of modern Kaliningrad.

I ordered three knives from you guys late last night (about 2:00 am,) got free standard shipping, and woke up this morning to an email that my order had shipped. How sweet is that?! I got a Kershaw Iridium D2, a Civivi Elementum Flipper D2, and a Kizer Drop Bear 154CM. I really wanted a button lock Elementum but I’ve heard a fair bit of complaints about issues with the lock. The Kizer was less than seventy bucks so that was impossible to refuse. The Kerahaw just looks plain awesome. Thanks Knife Center!

I wanted one of the KN exclusives with S35, but they got discontinued before I pulled the trigger. I'm sharing your thinking on the Magnacut version though, that's a really competitive price. Very classy looking knife. Question though, since you've had the older version for a while: does the white G10 on the handle pick up dirt and discoloration? I love the colors but I don't want to have a dirt-colored handle if I happen to drop the knife.

Go look at the knives in your kitchen. Now go write a stern email to that company for copying literally every other knife company out there. You knife people get so weird about this topic. You do understand that a knife design is not and literally can't be exclusive to a company, right? Here's two knives that are comparable in all regards. Which do you prefer? Are you willing to pay the 15 more? Does the steel even matter to you on this desk rider? Quit being weird about how it looks and actually pay attention to what makes up the knife.

Benchmade? Overpriced garbage. I'd rather spend an extra $100-$300 on something like a Zermeno custom Tyr, a Les George Squatch, a Nicholas Nichols Dreadnought, or even a Chelette Custom Gur with timascus inlays. That's just naming a few American made knives I'd much rather invest my money in over anything Benchmade has made, makes or will make.

I'm watching this while playing with my Bugout with damascus blade.... A great fidgety knife, but unfortunately I really suck at sharpening knifes.. I've tried with wet stone multiple times. I have 1000 and 4000 stones, but I simply can't sharpen the damn thing if my life depended on it.. Some of my knifes have D2 steel which is said to be the easiest steel to sharpen, but nope, no luck with them either, let alone some of the powder steel knifes.. My last option is buying that rolling sharpener. People say it's incredibly easy and fool proof to get a razor sharp blade every time. Then I see some people complaining that the magnet isn't properly holding the blade at a given angle and that the blade disengages... But hell, I'll try it cause it's the last chance for me to have sharp knifes. Cause what's the use of a hobby of collecting and carrying multiple knifes, if they are all dull and have to be taken to a professional knife sharpener once every few months....
@EDCandLace

No no don't do it, don't get the roller thing, I've heard it's little more than a gimmick. I'm not sure what it costs, but I'll give you two options for either budgets: Option The First: Worksharp Field Sharpener, $35 USD, two diamond abrasives in 220 and 600 grit, a ceramic honing rod, and a preloaded strop. Comes with an angle guide fixed to the diamond abrasive part at 20⁰, absolutely fool proof, compact, comes with everything one might need. Option The Second: KME with wooden base, $220 USD, comes with 4 diamond abrasives in 100,300,800, & 1400. Angle guide goes up to 30⁰ down to 15⁰, with a myriad of accessories available and custom parts. I have had my KME just over two years now and I absolutely love it. There was a learning curve but tons of videos to learn, it is way easier than freehand. I recently just bought the Worksharp and was honestly surprised at how well it works for those in a pinch sharpenings or on the go. Let me know if you have any questions regarding either!
@senoB
@senoB 29 күн бұрын
Get a Spyderco Sharpmaker for about 100 USD and you shouldn't have much trouble. Basically hold knife upright in middle of the ”V”, slide gently down in each inside of the "V", first on the corners of triangle then the flats, medium diamond then ceramic. Basically foolproof. The Worksharp guided clamp sharpener Precision Adjust is even more foolproof (Pro for more features and better stability). However freehand sharpening using strops and sandpaper mounted/glued on soft surfaces (cardboard, foam, leather) usually gives me the easiest (convex/Appleseed) edges although usually a little scratched up 😢 since angle doesn't really matter as much. Shallower gives better slicing, steeper gives you tougher edges. Takes time though.
@-trmxzer0-235
@-trmxzer0-235 29 күн бұрын
Why not buy a KME or a similar fixed angle sharpener? Learn to use it and you can get great edges without too much sharpening experience.

Funny you say that because this alloy is one that's not a consolation prize thing for me when they omit Powder Metallurgy in a model. I wanted Midgards Messer Beowolf from Boker because of N690, but the heel being full thickness instead of a bevel running from tip to heel (since its so wide and not pointy) made me hesitant too long and now when Midgards Messer put it out themselves in 14C28N I couldn't jump on it fast enough. I'm thankful I have a variety of knives in N690 and VG-10. I tried to get a custom made version in N690 but the guy dropped my order off the cliff and never made it. The Viper Handy looks like a great knife, but I have the same criticism of it that I have of the MKM Pocket Tango. MagnaCut steel makes it prohibitively expensive. I think it's great that MagnaCut exists for people who can afford it, but what about the rest of us? Any maker considering offering their knives in MagnaCut should also consider offering them is a more affordable steel option, like 420HC. Speaking of which, the new Gerber Strongarm Camp is the nicest blade shape I've seen from Gerber in 20 years, but that handle is still hideously ugly, like most of what Gerber has produced in recent years. $90 for 420HC and a thermoplastic handle? Are you pulling my leg? I guess if you are a fan of the original Strongarm as a combat knife, the Camp version would make a nice companion for it, so the Camp can be used for utility tasks and the OG for combat.

HeyDCA, can you guys do a knife sharpening demo video? Watching bunch of pros with biased opinions or gear that is unobtanium is less than helpful, so, I would appeal to your group to demo products you carry, with the amount of time each technique takes vs. cost of the product? Maybe what products compliment each other for best results? You guys got me collecting knives, since you all created a bunch of monsters,followers,however you want to define it, can please help help us maintain our fixation in a sharp manner?😮

I don’t like it that much to go through all that. Plus the grip tape might peel off if the aluminum gets too hot.

Fun fact: In Germany "concealed carry" is normal carry, as you don't want to bring attention to your knife in public haha. "concealing" sounds sus though, as if you have something to hide 🤔

What the hell is RMJ thinking I made in the USA nitro V fix blade steel for $265 and vipers do on a magna cut maybe it’s not USA made but it’s $100 cheaper. I don’t know what the hell RMJ is thinking, but it just goes to prove a lot of the knife companies out. There are way out of touch with its customers. I say we boycott the ones that like the price gouge Benchmade be in the other one.

If you really wanna pronounce it correctly, take the “kaynig” pronunciation, but round out the front of your mouth like you were saying “kohnig.” The end result should sound similar to how Michael Caine pronounces the word “bird.” Hope that wasn’t too confusing lol

The Kraken makes me a little uncomfortable with how closely it resembles an Insingo Inkosi. I wont say Piratech is ripping CRK off, but its obvious what knife inspired the shape of the Kraken. It must make us all a little uncomfortable. Take DCA's calling the Mini Arius a flipping version of the Sebenza for example. We are willing to make those sorts of comparisons, but when confronted with the Kraken we are totally unwilling to address it.

Oh nooooo. A knife company made a blade shape and handle that resembles another. They aren't lying and trying to pass it off as some other knife, instead they honestly market it as their own interpretation of a popular design. Every knife today is inspired or even an exact copy of some other knife. Which do you like better? Which has better steel? Which is treated better? What's the price difference? You know, the important things when comparing a knife. Not "AHHHHHH SOMEONE ELSE DID IT ALREADY AHHHHH." Use your head as more than decoration for your shoulders. I have faith in you that youll learn a little knife history before you cry about knives looking the same. Oh no united cutlery has the exact same kitchen knife setup with the exact same size and shaped knives as boker. Quick, alert the knife police.

No doubt about it, if it was an American company doing a highly similar design to CRK model (or any model for that matter) people would be throwing an absolute fit over it... but... well I'll just leave it at that.
